What The World Expects of You

When you suffer the greatest loss
Known to humankind;
The loss of your own sweet child
It is enough to blow your mind.

You suffer in grief and loss
Till you are sure you can take no more;
You finally find the courage
To go outside your own front door.

To your dismay you see your friends
Turn away as you approach;
You are sure there must be some mistake
The subject you attempt to broach.

Those who were once your closest friends
Now seem so distant and cold;
For the life of you, you cannot understand
If you contemplate it till you have grown old.

When finally you find a friend
Who stops when you she met;
You are dismayed when she smiles and asks
"Are you over it yet?"

You stare at her in total shock
That she could any such thing;
While you wonder how to answer her
Your heart and mind begins to sting.

You finally ask if she is mad
That you never get over the loss of a child;
She smiles and shows she has no clue
And acts so meek and mild.

You finally give up and turn to go
She shrugs and mumbles she leaves;
You know she will never understand
The suffering of those who grieves.

As you drive home you know you are doomed
To live a life misunderstood;
By those who once called you their friend
And said they always would.

You resign yourself to being alone
In this life of grief you live;
Knowing full well the world has no clue
And can never have support to give.
