Those Bitter Words

The very last words I said to him
Were ones a parent can long regret,
Words meant to direct him right
Became the final ones before his maker he met.

Our final words were bitter ones
Tho not intended to be our last,
Ones expressed out of concern
But the end just came too fast.

Now he is gone to return no more
And those bitter words still ring,
How can I endure the memory
Those words forever bring.

Oh how I wish our final words
Had been ones of love and caring,
Not those angry and bitter words
That have made me so sad and fearing.

Will there ever be a day
When my heart will be at peace,
With the agony those bitter words
Continue to release
