Impressions
I stayed with some friends of mine in Danville, Illinois, in July 1999. In fact I was there on Indepence Day, which on this particular year happened to be a Sunday. America seems to be a nation of chuchgoers, and my friends were no exception. So my overriding memory of this particular Sunday is one of the preacher going on about how lucky they all were to be so wealthy!! Well, I am all for independence, and being independant, but I do not always like the way they use their wealth, and I often feel that if America goes on as it is, it will end up alientating itself from much of the rest of the world.
Independance in itself comes at a price, and sometimes a very high price.

With the high price of Independance very much in mind, I have chose to represent Danville, The Soldiers and Sailors Monument, by the American sculptor Lorado Taft. (1857 to 1953).
