| Fear is often caused by ignorance. I start this page on the swamplands of Louisiana (the bayou) in that way, because for many years I had a fear of reptiles, especially snakes, and to a lesser extent crocodiles and alligators. Sometimes one just needs to face a fear head on and confront it to conquer it, and one of the best ways I could think of to overcome my fear of alligators and the like was to go and see them, not in a zoo, but in their own native habitat. This page has come about as result of doing just that. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The following States will be covered specifically in due course: Arizona; Arkansas; California; Colorado; Florida; Illinois; Louisiana; Maine; Michigan; New York; Ohio; Texas; Utah; Vermont; West Virginia; Wyoming; and Hawaii! (one of the most amazing places that I have visited so far) |

| Right First it is necessary to have a suitable vehicle to get out into the bayou. An airboat, as pictured right, is the safest way, an exciting experience in itself. |

| Right. One of the beauties of an airboat, is that it is not easily run aground. And it will travel in waters as shallow as a few inches, or even on wet mud or across long watersoaked grass. So it was able to get us right up close. And this is one of the photographs that resulted from the tour. |

| A young alligator is not as wary of intrusions as its elders, and this one let us get right up close to it, closer even than in this photograph. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
