PS Zone Current News Koei has confirmed the release date of the
action RPG Shin Sangoku Musou for PlayStation 2, it has been set to
August 3, for 6800 yen, in CD-ROM media. In this game there is a Musou
Mode and Free Mode, the Musou Mode is the story mode, in which the story
advances when you cleared each level, the level of the characters will
increase when they gained enough experience. In Free Mode, you can play
back the levels that you've cleared in the Musou Mode. Sanyo announced that they are developing a
new 15" TFT LCD monitor for PlayStation 2. This monitor supports up to 1024 x 768 resolution, with XGA,
RGB, and S-Video input ports. This monitor features progressive image
conversion technology and high refresh rate, which is most suitable for
use in high performance console systems and DVD players. This new LCD
monitor is scheduled to release in July, for 98,000 yen.
Konami is jointly developing a new version of
their dancing game with the Tokyo TV Station called Ohha Station Dance
Dance Revolution, scheduled to release on August 31, for 4800 yen.
This game will correspond to a new TV show in some ways. A Hong Kong company has released a new Remote
Control for PS and PS2 called EMS Remote Control. This remote
control works for PlayStation (VCD) and PlayStation 2 (DVD movies).
However, for playing VCDs on Playstation, this remote only works with the VCD Card
released by the same company. One special feature about this controller,
if you are using the first generation PS2
with DVD Drive 1.0, you can use the "Special" button on the
remote control to load up DVD movies from other countries, without needing
to use the tricks. Square has released in-depth story details of
Final Fantasy IX. The game takes place in a world named Gaia, which
contains 4 distinct ruling nations. Zidane came from the kingdom of
Lindblum, a peaceful nation with Cid as the leader. Cid hired bandits to
kidnap the Princess Garnet from the neighboring kingdom Alexandria after
the Queen of Alexandria began to attack nearby villages ruthlessly. Cid's
plan was to capture the princess to find out the Queen's plan.
However, after meeting Cid, Princess Garnet and her bodyguard Steiner
realized about things the Queen have done, and decided to join Zidane's
team. At the time, the Queen sent an army of black mages to chase after
Zidane, and Vivi, who is not from the army of Alexandria, was stuck in the
middle of their battles, and ending up joining Zidane's team. Also
in Final
Fantasy IX, during the battles you can make use of both front row and
back row, in front row you will have more attack power, while in the back
row you will have more defensive power. A new Trance Mode has replaced the
Limit Breaks in FF7 and FF8, in which when you received a certain amount
of damages, you will be able to access hidden abilities and skills which
you normally cannot use. A new Active Time Event System is added to the
game, you can split up your party into teams to search the towns
individually. News from Japan indicates that Final
Fantasy IX will feature a new system in the game called MogNet,
a huge network system in the game featuring the familiar character Mog. In
the game, you can send letters and parcels to different places using the
Mognet, the letter is kept from a certain Mog, and passed over from one to
another, until the letter reached the destination. In addition, The FF9
theme song will be performed by the popular Japanese singer Emiko
Shiratori, called The Melodies of Life, there will be two versions
of the song, one in Japanese and one in English.

Idea Factory will release a new PS2 robot action simulation game called The Mechsmith in Japan sometime this summer. You take control of an engineer who assemble the RBs (the robot), once you have completed your creation, you can send it out to battle and battle with other robots. (picture

Sunrise Interactive's first Playstation 2
title G-Saviour is close to completion, originally known as
G-Breaker, a futuristic mech combat simulation game scheduled to release
in Japan this summer, in DVD media for 7800 yen. The story takes place in
the Space Year 0224, the game focus on the character Reed Fox, who battle
against the enemies known as bugu. (picture

Sony has revealed the Playstation
One and Playstation 2 Hard Drive in Japan yesterday. PS One is
scheduled to release in Japan on July 7 for 15000 yen, and in North
America in September. PS One is approx. 1/3 the size of the original
Playstation, it is compatible with all the existing Playstation software,
there are over 150 titles under development, specifically for PS One.
Sony will release a Cellular Phone Adapter which allows players to
access the internet by cellular phone, to download data, software, surf
the net and even exchange data and play online games over the internet,
the cellular phone adapter will work for PS, PS One and PS2. Sony is
planning to build a large scale network server for future net
compatible PS and PS2 games. Sony will also be releasing a new 4"
TFT LCD monitor for PS One early next spring, which will fit right on
top of the PS One, and turn PS One into a portable machine. Here are

Sony has also revealed
the Playstation 2 HDD in Japan, which is scheduled to release by
the end of the year. The Hard Drive add-on will include high speed network
interface and disk drive, allowing players to download a large amount of
data from the internet and store into the hard drive.
Arika will release Tetris with Cardcaptor
Sakura for Playstation in Japan this August, a versus battle Tetris
game featuring characters from the popular anime series. A new Navigation
System is added to the game to give you hints to complete a Tetris in the
game. This game features a number of play modes, including Story Mode,
Gallery Mode, Versus Mode and Omake Mode.
Namco announced that they will release MotoGP
for Playstation 2 in Japan this fall, based on the System 12 arcade racing
game 500GP FIM World Championship, the PS2 port will feature photo
quality graphics. The game will include Arcade Mode, VS Mode, and Time
Attack Mode. The race circuits include France, Japan, Spain, Great Britain
and more. Square has posted an official statement to
explain the delay of their highly anticipated PS2 baseball game Gekikuukan
Pro Baseball: The End of the Century 1999, originally scheduled to
release in Japan on March 30, the game has been pushed back to sometimes
this summer, because Square needs to get the permission in using the
motion captured animation of each of the real name characters in the game,
to avoid violation to the intellectual property rights to the J. League
baseball mechanism. In addition, Square still needs to acquire a
sub-license agreement from Konami to release the game, a mistake was made
in the negotiation process few months ago. Konami has confirmed that they will release
their Playstation 2 RPG title Reiselied: Ephemeral Fantasia in Japan on
August 10, for 6800 yen, in DVD media, this game will support the Guitar
Freaks controller, you can use it in battles. Koei is planning to release their highly
anticipated Playstation 2 action fighting game Shin Sangoku Musou
in Japan this August. Dazz is working on a new Playstation 2 title
called Velvet File, a Front Mission type mech combat war simulation
game which takes place in the near future of Tokyo. The story takes place
in 2002, where Japan is overtaken by a military coup, and the government
sent out their secret weapon - the robo army to battle against the

Here are some new screen shots of SCEE's
Playstation 2 air combat title DropShip, the game is scheduled to
release in Europe as a PS2 launch title this fall.
Capcom announced that Dino Crisis 2
for Playstation will be coming out in Japan on September 13, for 5800 yen.
Here are some new screens of the game, you can see the second main
character Dylan in action. It seems that you can toggle between Regina and
Dylan during the game.
Shortly after the release of Super Robot
Taisen Alpha, Banpresto announced that they are developing a sequel of the
game, tentatively named Super Robot Taisen Alpha 2, the game is
scheduled to release in Japan by the end of the year. Sony mentioned that the Playstation 2 is
compatible with any standard PC USB Mouse, the Bikkuri Mouse is an option,
but not necessary for playing mouse compatible PS2 games. From Software announced
that their upcoming Playstation 2 game Armored Core 2 will have USB
Mouse support, in addition to iLink cable. You can use the USB mouse to do
customization works for your robot. The game will ship in Japan on July

In an open interview, the president of Tecmo
admitted that they see Namco's Tekken Tag Tournament for PS2 as a rivalry
product to Dead or Alive 2, they released DOA2 for PS2 on March 30 to
compete with Namco's Tekken TT. He also pointed out that Dead or Alive for
Playstation sold 160,000 copies and the sales has more than doubled for
Dead or Alive 2. DOA2's 320,000 sales are not very far behind from Namco's
380,000 sales for Tekken Tag Tournament. Bandai announced that they will release a Limited
Edition of SD Gundam G Generation-F in Japan on August 3, for 9980
yen, this version features crystal glass card folder, plastic toy model
kit, 0079 Gundam calendar, Gundam V binder, a collection of Mobile Suit
material and a gorgeous package. Tecmo announced that they are working on new
sequel of their popular titles Monster Farm and Gallop Racer
for Playstation. Both titles are expected to ship in Japan before March
2001. The Monster Farm (Monster Rancher) series has sold over 2 million
copies worldwide Konami announced that they are porting the
hit arcade music game Keyboard Mania to Playstation 2, the game is
scheduled to release in Japan sometimes this summer, the PS2 version will
features a collection of new tunes not found in the arcade version, a
special USB Keyboard Controller will be released along with the game.
