PS Zone Current News SNK has released new information on the
Playstation version of The King of Fighters '99: Millennium Battle.
The game is scheduled to release in Japan on March 23 and the
Playstation version will be based on the Neo Geo CD Version.
The 2 hidden characters: Kyo and Iori will be playable right at the
beginning, and the last boss Krizalid will be playable after meeting some
conditions. Other than the standard play modes (Single, Team, Practice,
etc.), there will be a new Art Gallery Mode, Voice Gallery Mode and Color
Edit Mode, in which you can customize the costume color of each character,
save it to memory and reuse in other play modes. However, there will be no
extra Striker characters like in the Dreamcast version. Here are some latest screen shots of Koei's

In Vagrant Story, there are over 300
different weapons, divided into the following categories: Dagger, Swords,
Great Sword, Spears, Axes, Maces, Great Axes, Great Maces, Staves, and
Crossbows. You can also use a shield to protect yourself, but you will not
be able to use weapons that require two hands, such as cross bow or great
swords. Other than purchasing weapons from weapon shop, you can also take
weapons off enemy hands, modify or combine existing weapons, or find
hidden weapon at specific locations. There are 6 types of enemies: Undead,
Phantom, Evil, Dragon, Beast, and Human, each type of enemy has a weakness
against certain types of weapon, it is important to choose the right
weapon to combat different opponents.
The Playstation 2 online reservation service
will begin on February 18 at Sony's Playstation.Com website. Seven game
developers and four non-game companies are joining up for the Playstation
2 E-Commerce business (downloadable game, movies and digital music),
including Namco, Konami, Square, Enix, Capcom, Bandai, Koei, Digicube,
Hapinet, Seven Eleven and Culture Convenience Club. Konami has rescheduled the release of Beat

Namco announced that their first Playstation
2 title Ridge Racer V will be compatible to a number of Playstation
peripherals, including Dual Shock, and Dual Shock 2, JogCon and NeGcon
controller, and the game will feature music from the famous Japanese
composer Mijk Van Dijk. Banpresto announced that Super Robot War
Alpha for Playstation on March 23, for 6980 yen. Produce will release their arcade beat and
rhythm game Paka Paka Passion 2 for Playstation in April. Koei announced Mahjong Rally III for
Playstation 2 will be released at the PS2 launch date on March 4, for 4800
yen, in CD-ROM format.
Sony mentioned that the production of
Playstation 2 console is running smoothly, and they will be able to meet
the 1 million shipment plan on March 4, 2000. Square has revealed a number of new projects
in the Square Millennium show in Japan. Final Fantasy IX, X and XI are
formally announced. Final Fantasy IX will be heading to Playstation this
summer, the story setting will bring you back in medieval age fantasy
world in the western continent, with super deformed characters similar to
the Final Fantasy 1 - 5. FFIX will allow up to 4 characters to participate
in battles, instead of 3 in FF7 and FF8. Both Final Fantasy X and Final
Fantasy XI will be heading to Playstation 2, supporting the new Play
Online Service offered by Square, enable players to download game updates
and other features from the internet, and FFXI will be complete with
online RPG features (Online Another World). FFX is scheduled to release in
Spring 2001 while FFXI is scheduled by the end of 2001. FFX and FFXI will
have full 3D graphics, with 2D sprite quality of animation. First images of Square's Final Fantasy IX for
Playstation. The character size will be smaller than those of FFVII and
FFVIII, in super deformed style like in FF1-6. FFIX is currently close to

scheduled to release in spring of 2001.
This game feature online supporting, include downloading new game
data, game information, hints and strategies. (From
Core Magazine) Square has also showed images of Final
Fantasy XI ~ Online Another World for Playstation 2, at the Square
Millennium show. This will be an online RPG, scheduled to release in Japan
in second half of 2001. You will be able to play the game online through
the Play Online game server, as well as receiving data update, game hints
and info from the internet. Square will team up with NTT Communications
in Japan, to provide the online service called Play Online, this service
will support online game services, email and chatting services, as well as
E-commerce and E-Distribution, such as downloading digital music and comic
right from the internet. The popular manga artist Takehiko Inoue (creator
of Slam Dunk) will be providing his works to this service. Sony will release MultiTap 2 for
Playstation 2 on March 4, together with T&E's PS2 golf title Gold
Paradise. Takara has pushed back the release of their
robot battle simulation game Brave Saga 2 for Playstation from this spring

Capcom / Arika have released new images of
their Playstation 2 fighting game Street Fighter EX3 which is scheduled to
release in Japan this spring. A
new character edit mode is added to the game to allow you to create an
original character in the game. Over 10 characters will fight on the same
stage simultaneously (mostly computer controlled opponents). Confirmed
characters in the game include Ryu, Ken, Chun Li, Skullomania, Blanka, and
Jack. The graphic qualities have also been vastly improved since the last
demo version. A number of new
characters have been added to the game, including a brand new character
called Ace, with a number of return characters such as Sakura, Hokudo and
Sharon. A number of new play modes are added to the game, including the
Arena Mode, Tag Battle, Dramatic battle (allow 1 vs 3 or 2 vs 1 and so
on), Team Battle (up to 5 vs 5), and a new Character Edit Mode, in which
you can create your own unique character by earning experience points,
which is used to purchase new special moves. (Pictures

Take Two Interactive, Angel
Studio and Rockstar are developing two new Playstation 2 racing games
called Midnight Club and Getaway. Midnight Club is a metropolitian racing
game, scheduled to release at PS2 launch title in North America, Getaway
is a rally / offroad racing game.
ArtDink announced that they will release a
new Playstation 2 development toolkit called Agatha on February 21, this
toolkit contains a collection of 2D and 3D graphic libraries and
middleware. The Agatha will be sold for 150,000 yen (plus a 0.1% royalty
fee), it seems that ArtDink's first PS2 title A-Train VI is developed from
this collection of toolkit. Sunrise Interactive announced that they will
release the new robot battle simulation game G Breaker ~ Squid of
Armored Century for Playstation 2 sometimes this fall, in DVD-ROM
format. Taito will release Train de Go! for
Playstation in March, the latest driving simulation in their De Go!
series, this time you will take control of steam locomotives, which
operate by coals and steam. You control the steam locomotive by using the
reversal machine and air pressure brake. Because there are more things to
watch for, an optional Simple Operation Mode is added to the game, in
which the computer will take over part of the tasks. This game will
feature a Two Player Mode, in which one person the steam locomotive
engineer while the second person will play as the assistant.
ArtDink is working on a new Playstation 2
title called Buchigire Kougou, scheduled to release sometimes this spring,
this is a construction worker action fighting game in which you create
your own equipment to use in battles, such as bulldozers.
