game is currently unknown what type of game is going to be in.
Climax announced their driving action game
Runabout 2 for Playstation. Planning
to release by the end of the year for 5800 yen.
Like Runabout 1, in each mission you must meet the clearing
conditions within the time limit. Graphics
are improved from the Runabout 1. There
will be 5 initial courses and 13 missions, each course will have
multiple routes, there are 31 vehicles, divided into 4 categories: cars,
motorcycles, trucks and sportscar, you can customize the body color,
brakes and suspensions of each vehicle.
This game will support analog, dual shock and NegCon.
Winky Soft has announced a new Playstation
SRPG called The Spirit Machines Reburied. The game is in the similar to
Super Robot Wars, but it will feature war strategy, adventure and love
simulation elements in the game, and there will be over 60 stages and
over 100 characters. Famitsu magazine has gave Sony's RPG Wild
Arms 2nd Ignition a score of 31 / 40 (8,8,9,6). Sony is working on a new PS2 development
tool called Polygon Eater P2, which will improve the efficiency on
creating 3D characters and environments by fully automating the polygon
building process. Monolith is planning to develop two new PC and PS2 titles. They are Sanity and No One Lives Forever. Sanity is a futuristic plan view action game, and No One Lives Forever is a James Bond style stealth game. Fox Interactive will publish these two titles.
RUMOR: Sony Music Entertainment is working
on Tenchu 3 for Playstation 2. Sony is planning to spend $150 million for
marketing Playstation 2 in US next year. The Playstation version of Banpresto's
Super Robot War Alpha will still in 2D, while the DC version will go 3D
in battle sequences. The map screen will be displayed in a 45-degree
angle, and you will see the whole character on screen, instead of just a
symbol in the previous version. There
will be characters from over 31 different Japanese anime and mangas,
including Evangelion and Macross. In Super Robot War Alpha, a number of
robots will be able to break themselves into parts during battles, plus
special attacks. There will be new offensive and defensive special
attacks for each robot, and you will be able to perform counter attacks
while putting yourself into defensive mode. Super Robot War Alpha for
Playstation will be released in this winter. Konami of Japan announced that they have
acquired exclusive rights for using Disney characters in their future
console titles. They have reached an agreement with Disney to publish
the Playstation action games A Bug's Life and Tarzan in Japan this fall.
Electronic Arts announced that they will be
making significant changes to the US version of V-Rally 2. The US version of the game will have better controls,
heightening car damage, increase of the dirt factor and fine-tuning the
interface, and replacing all European music with new licensed tracks to
fit the American taste. V-Rally 2 for Playstation will be released in
October. Konami has confirmed that they will release
their highly anticipated love simulation game Tokimeki Memorial 2 for
Playstation on November 25 in Japan, the game will be in 5 CDs, for 6800
yen, it will be compatible with the Playstation mouse, Dual Shock and
PocketStation. Konami's Harlem Beat, featuring an eclectic mix of simulation and action, is nearing completion. In this game you must take control of several teenage Japanese basketball players (both male and female), and mold them into a winning basketball team. No word yet on the amount of player-controlled hoops action, but expects it to be heavy on the 'simulation' and light on the 'dramatics'. Planning to be released on October 28.

The 4th Japan Game of the Year was held in Tokyo Kaikan on August 24,
conducted by 15 Japanese magazines and 7 magazine publishers such as
Softbank, Media Works and Kadokawa Publishing, over 8400 votes were sent
in, and this year's Grand Prix goes to Square's massive RPG Final
Fantasy VIII for Playstation, the Semi Grand Prix goes to Nintendo's
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo 64. It was
reported that the ratio of female game players are expanding rapidly,
and RPG continues to be the most popular genre in Japan. Here are the
full details:
SCE
will release their new action RPG Brightis in September.
This game takes place in a fantasy world, where a group of
pioneers were sent to a newly discovered continent, and they were attack
by numerous monsters on the land, and you were one of the few survivor.
Your mission is not just defeating all the monsters, you also need to
destroy all the traps created by the monsters, and collect the magic
stones that can seal the power of the monsters. The whole game is in 3D,
all the battles are real time, you can attack the monsters with swords
and magic, each weapon may have different ways to attack. When your
levels increase, you can use combo attacks and magic sword attacks.
There is an auto map system that will create a dungeon maps as you
proceed, so you will not get lost so easily. There will be a number of
PocketStation mini games as well. Jaleco is
porting their Naomi arcade mahjong game Let's Make an Idol Mahjong
Suchipai to Playstation. The
Playstation version will have additional features not found in the
arcade and Dreamcast version. Released date is still unknown. Square will
release their popular SRPG title Front Mission 3 for Playstation on
September 2 in Japan. There are two different stories in the game, each
will have different characters, missions and events, there will be over
100 missions, and dozens of CG cutscenes throughout the game. The disc
loading time will be greatly reduced, the game will only need to access
the disc once before each mission begins and there will be no loading
throughout the whole mission. In this game each enemy warzer (robot)
will have a number of special skills, you can learn these special skills
by capturing the enemy robots using two methods, the first is to use
strong attacks to force the enemy soldier to get out of their warzer,
and command your own soldier to take over the enemy warzer; the second
is to defeat the commander of the enemy warzers and make the enemy
soldiers surrender, and you will take over all the remaining enemy
warzers.
Enix will
release their Playstation RPG Valkyrie Profile in Japan in November.
The game will run on 2 - 3 CDs, and unconfirmed news stating that
Enix will push back the release date of Dragon Quest VII to sometimes
early next year, before March 2000, because they don't want to release
two big name RPGs consecutively in two months. Capcom of Japan
has launched a Biohazard 3 reservation campaign in Japan, the
first 500,000 people who preordered the game will receive a special
Cyber File booklet, and they will receive the game ahead of the public
release date on September 22. Square will
release a new Playstation 2 fighting game at the PS2 launch, developed
by Dream Factory, the creator of Tobal 1 & 2, and Ehrgeiz. They
mentioned that the game title will not be Ehrgeiz 2, it is not related
to an existing title. This new action fighting game will feature
multiplayer game play, fully interactive environment, real time 3D CG
graphics and huge battle fields break up into multiple rooms and
sections (e.g. a Chinese restaurant with 2 levels, multiple rooms and
large yards).
Hudson has
announced Momotaro Electric Railway V for Playstation, the latest sequel
of their monopoly style family board game. Scheduled to release in
December, this time the game will support PocketStation and dual shock
joysticks. Sony's
Playstation racing game Gran Turismo 2 will become a double CD game, and
the retail price is increased to 6800 yen, due to the additional car
models requested by North America and Europe players. ASCII will
release True Love Story F for Playstation on November 25, for 4800 yen.
