591. 03-01-92 LONDON - WEST END: Rick; WPR. PRS after-work drink in "THE CAMBRIDGE"; the first such for a while.
592. 12-01-92 LONDON N1 - ISLINGTON: WPR; COB; Gerald, Sue. WPR and Gerald arrived lamentably late to find the COB and Sue occupying comfy sofa. Much inspection of and inscriptions in diaries, over pints of Charles Wells. Sue presented the WPR with an "Edd the Duck" plate.
593. 15-01-92 LONDON - WEST END: Rick; Judy, WPR; Pete, Tim. PRS Pub Rally. Various pubs visited, including "THE CAMBRIDGE" and "THE MARQUIS OF GRANBY". Karaoke performed at end of evening by team captain (Rick) and Judy and Pete. Team later found to have come an honourable third out of about forty.
594. 17-01-92 LONDON N1 - ISLINGTON: WPR; BS. Meeting convened by WPR after BS's return from convalescing in Ramsgate. Unsure whether he should drink, the BS still managed 5 pints, in the "HEMINGFORD ARMS", "HUNTINGDON ARMS", "ALBION", "CROWN" and "GEORGE IV". The BS presented the WPR with a calendar.
595. 23-01-92 LONDON N1 - ISLINGTON: WPR; SAR & N, COB, BS; Gerald, Jeff, David, Ryan, Peter, Sue. SLBS Members met in the "BLUE ANGEL" near the Angel station, and were then taken by the WPR to "THE ANGEL", a specialist drinking house, where the rest of the WPR's party were already present.
596. 08-02-92 SURREY - GODSTONE / SURBITON: Sec; GR. The Sec and GR took advantage of the GR's company car to investigate Chaldon, Godstone, Lingfield, Burstow, Horley, Newdigate and Ewhurst. Commendably large Ploughman's and Burton Ale had for lunch in the genteel but pleasingly unspoiled surroundings of the "BELL INN", Godstone. The visit included afternoon tea in the Watts Gallery tea room, Compton and concluded at the "VICTORIA" (Youngs), Surbiton, where some spectacular additions to the fish tank were noted.
597. 07-03-92 SURREY - CHIDDINGFOLD / SURBITON: Sec; GR. The Sec and GR took advantage of the GR's company car to investigate Whitley, Chiddingfold, Dunsfold, Alford, Hascombe, Puttenham, Worplesdon and Ockham. Into the heart of the Stockbroker Belt, with "Nouvelle Cuisine" Ploughman's at the "CROWN INN", Chiddingfold; genuine C15 coaching inn; a pleasing pint of Tanglefoot had while watching the locals introducing their 2 year olds to mussels in the dining room. The visit included afternoon tea in the Watts Gallery tea room, Compton and concluded at the "VICTORIA" (Youngs), Surbiton, where some spectacular additions to the fish tank were noted.
598. 16-03-92 LONDON SW1 - WESTMINSTER: WPR; SAR & N, COB. "OLD SHADES", Whitehall. New bus route 139 was remarked upon (piece of former 159). Streatham Garage closed. This was related to the general decline in civilisation, society and standards in the SAR's mind. Nadir had a bad arm; however the WPR was more perturbed by reports of poor beer esp. London Pride and IPA. COB even more scathing. The SAR tried unsuccessfully to liven things up by suggesting how various London suburbs could be represented by hand signals. An altogether forgettable meeting.
599. 23-03-92 LONDON - HAMMERSMITH: WPR; Sec, Rick; Tim. Preliminary Courage Best was had by the Sec and WPR in the "HOP POLES", King Street, before meeting the other members at the Hammersmith Odeon for an unusually alcohol free evening witnessing a lengthy and serious performance by the legendary Lou Reed. Members thence returned in Rick's car to Highgate, where an exotic selection of Belgian beers collected by the WPR on his recent European travels were inspected and briefly sampled.
600. 24-03-92 LONDON SW1 - PIMLICO: COB; SAR & N, WPR, Sec, SOS (late), BS; Yvonne. A relatively large gathering by recent standards, in the "MORPETH ARMS", although once again lacking the Chair due to pressing business in Harlow. Constitutional amendments re gradations/membership rights were discussed, and means of obtaining optimum AGM attendance. The SOS's attendance was late and brief, and followed the early departure of the SAR and N, as had been predicted by other members. The SOS reminisced about a romantic experience he once had in Pimlico.
601. 25-03-92 LONDON - WEST END: Rick; Judy, WPR. Brief early evening drink on Rick's birthday.
602. 31-03-92 LONDON - WEST END: BS; WPR, Sec, COB; Paul, Fiona, Sue. BBC recording of "When Harry met Ally" in the Paris Studios followed by visit to the "CAPTAIN'S CABIN" (Ruddles), St. Alban's Street.
603. 08-04-92 LONDON - WEST END: COB; WPR, BS; Sue, Ryan, Jeff, David, various of Sue's friends. A large gathering in the "CAPTAIN'S CABIN" after having seen the "Million Pound Radio Show" Election Special at the nearby BBC Paris Studio. Brief visit only by Jeff and David before leaving to celebrate David's birthday. Speculation re: outcome of following day's General Election. Prospective voters for at least four different political parties found to be present.
604. 13-04-92 LONDON - HOLBORN: Sec; WPR, GR. "YORKSHIRE GREY" (home-brew), Theobalds Road. Happy hour until 7:00 taken advantage of via pints of Best. Discussion centered on employment prospects past, present and future. General election alluded to but little to say. Favourable reaction to pub. "PAKENHAM ARMS" (Free), Calthorpe Street. GR announced: "Brakspear Special - a good pint, well worth having". Food cabinet reminiscent of trip to corner store spoils dropped on ground - paper bags, vegetables, bits of fruit and pies scattered at random. Opposite Mount Pleasant Sorting Office but no sign of their staff despite Sec's predictions. "CALTHORPE ARMS" (Youngs), Grays Inn Road (not GR). Assertive post-electoral debate occurring at the bar. Party bagged seats by the heater.
605. 22-04-92 LONDON - WEST END: Rick; WPR, Janine, Debbie from PRS. A self-funded evening out at "The Vietnamese Restaurant" to mark the dissolution of their team held by the above was guided by Rick to the "IMPERIAL" for a pre-meal drink. Seats not found; those at front filled by a large group of Chinese men. A post-meal return visit found them reduced to two, surrounded by peanut shells covering all nearby tables, chairs, floor etc. Party drank very slowly after large meal.
606. 27-04-92 LONDON - HOLBORN: COB; WPR. A midweek meeting in the "RUGBY TAVERN" to review events including the recent election. Ex-Xionics members encountered. Then, having been introduced recently to the "YORKSHIRE GREY" by the Sec, the WPR took the COB there (actually the COB showed the WPR the way). The COB appeared impressed.
607. 09-05-92 LONDON WC2 - ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING: Sec; SAR (in the Chair) & N, Rick, COB, WPR, Anth, SOS, GR, BS, Patrick, BRA; Gerald, Sue, Jane. The meeting took place in a traditional venue, the "LAMB" in Lamb's Conduit Street. The conversation ranged over a wide variety of subjects. Apologies from Chair and Kath (house buying), Paul and Fiona (family commitments). Unusual social mix, of members, eccentric locals and post cup final commiserating Sunderland supporters. Good turnout, including rare appearance by SAR (normally to be found flying over it in recent years), who entertained other members with distasteful Nigerian newspaper extracts. No motions were passed, neither were any constitutional amendments, owing to the absence of the chair and the fact that no member had a copy of the Constitution.
608. 10-05-92 LONDON - SHEPHERD'S BUSH: COB; BS; Ryan, Sue. Members had some beers in the "MOON ON THE GREEN" and then went home.
609. 22-05-92 LONDON - WEST END: SOS; WPR. Members met in the "HOG IN THE POUND", South Moulton Street on a very hot day. The WPR got it wrong and forgot to go downstairs to the basement which was empty and cool. American states were identified, and then the nearby Austrian restaurant - the reason for the meeting - was found to be false and expensive, so members proceeded to "THE ANGEL", Thayer Street. and stood outside and inspected a job advert from The Guardian. In the "LINCOLN", Old Peculier was had, and a couple fitting the same description had an argument outside. Finally an excellent and filing Turkish meal was had in the "Divan Restaurant" in Edgware Road.
610. 25-05-92 LONDON - WEST END: COB; BS; Sue, Janet. Invitation only event in the cocktail bar of the "LONG ISLAND TEA ROOM", Monmouth Street, organised by the COB who was late. A complete disaster.
611. 30-05-92 LONDON - FINSBURY PARK: Rick; Judy, BRA, WPR, BS; Charlie, many others. "The Inspectors", Rick's band, stormed their way through a selection of favourites old and new, with a surprise visit by The Police to end the show.
612. 03-06-92 LONDON - PADDINGTON: WPR; Chair, SOS. The Chair made an exceptional visit to London to brief the others on his latest plans re: relocation. Members sat outside "THE VICTORIA" and reviewed the SOS's cultural guides to the USA and France, and a menu from the PRS staff restaurant.
613. 25-06-92 LONDON - ISLINGTON: COB; BS, WPR, Anth; Kevin (from Xionics), Sue, Jane, ex-Xionics staff, Sonia, Janet, Ryan. A large crowd gathered in the "PINT POT" to commemorate the COB's birthday. A nearby Indian restaurant was visited for the birthday meal, after which remaining members rounded off the evening with more beer in the "ECLIPSE".
614. 02-07-92 LONDON - WEST END: COB; WPR. A simple get-together in the newly opened but already crowded "MOON UNDER WATER" in Leicester Square.
615. 03-07-92 LONDON - WEST END: WPR; Rick, Judy. Members and most of PRS sat outside "THE CAMBRIDGE" while the TV inside showed the European Championship final. Later the WPR left to meet the BS at a Def Leppard concert.
616. 05-07-92 LONDON W6 - HAMMERSMITH: WPR; SAR & N, SOS (late). Members convened in the riparian haunts starting at the "DOVE". This venue is noted for its minuscule front bar, however the party, though small, could not use it because there was already a customer therein. This caused the meeting to be unsettled, sitting in a total of four different tables, largely because of a loud laugh being emitted from another customer, which the meeting desired to avoid. Members then moved to the "OLD SHIP" and noted the nautical memorabilia.
617. 06-07-92 WEST END: Sec; GR. Pleasant outdoor seating at the "PLOUGH", Museum Street and the "ANGEL AND CROWN", St. Martins Lane.
618. 07-07-92 NORTH KENSINGTON: COB; WPR; Sue, Sonia. After watching the film "The Mission", an exceptionally short meeting took place in the "DUKE OF WELLINGTON" (Youngs), Portobello Road. The COB was tired and all left after ten minutes.
619. 24-07-92 LONDON - WEST END: BS; COB, Sec, Anth; Ryan, numerous Logica personnel. The BS celebrated his birthday in the "ROYAL OAK", Kingly Street with sustained alternating consumption of bitter and "The Famous Grouse", culminating in heated ideological debate re political/religion with others present later in the evening. Apologies from WPR, being unwell but having attended the lunch time session.
620. 29-07-92 LONDON E14 - ISLE OF DOGS: WPR; SAR & N, COB, Sec, SOS, Maria. The Sec, WPR, Maria and Nadir met the SAR at his workplace and travelled to Island Gardens on the DLR, proceeding to the "FERRY HOUSE", where they were shortly joined by the SOS and COB (and a large but friendly dog) for outdoor consumption of Courage and fruit juices. The COB talked about his most recent additions to his gastronomic abstinences. The SOS took advantage of Maria's reappearance to reminisce at length about Eastern Europe. A relatively early departure was made by most members, but the SOS and COB continued their researches in Limehouse, where drinks were had in the aptly named "ONE THEY LEFT BEHIND".
621. 31-07-92 LONDON - GREAT PORTLAND STREET: Rick; Judy, BRA, BS, WPR; PRS people. A performance by Rick's band "The Inspectors" took place underground in "THE ALBANY".
622. 01-08-92 SURREY: Sec; GR. Another day's intensive tour of Surrey was made, visiting Ripley, Pyrford, Shackleford, Tilford, Waverley Abbey and Ranmore Common, where a spectacular society wedding with several horse-drawn conveyances was witnessed. A pleasing Ploughmans was taken on the garden of the "CYDER HOUSE", Shackleford, accompanied by Holden's Black Country bitter, which the landlord had initially encouraged members to sample from a wine glass. The customary visit to the "VICTORIA" (Youngs) in Surbiton was later made.
623. 01-08-92 LONDON - KENTISH TOWN: WPR; Rick, BRA. Drinks were had in the "VULTURE'S PERCH" followed by more drinks, accompanied by a musical performance by Robyn Hitchcock, took place in the "TOWN AND COUNTRY CLUB".
624. 04-08-92 LONDON - OLYMPIA: WPR; BS, COB, Anth; Ryan. Products were sampled at the "Great British Beer Festival".

626. 09-08-92 LONDON SE1 - SOUTHWARK: WPR; SAR & N, Maria. Members met at the "FOUNDERS ARMS" and sat outside, jealously guarding a table. The WPR and SAR inspected the mud banks which were revealed by low tide in the river, which was moderately interesting. Members then moved east to the "ANCHOR" for a brief drink. In the evening "Soplica" Vodka and "Okocim" Beer were sampled in Streatham.
627. 12-08-92 LONDON - HOLBORN: COB; WPR, Robin. Good beer and steaks were experienced at the "CITY PRIDE", which was recommended for future visits.
628. 13-08-92 LONDON SW1 - WEST END: SAR & WPR (independently); Chair & Kath, Nadir, COB, BS, Sec, Maria; Claudio (of Rio de Janeiro), Christina (of the Financial Times), Tony. The SAR's party, which included the Chair & Kath, Sec, Claudio and Christina assembled first at the "CAPTAIN'S CABIN", taking up a large amount of space, principally due to the volume of the First Lady's shopping. The WPR's party (COB, BS, Maria, Tony) were next door watching a radio recording and joined the meeting later. Tony impressed the meeting by his encyclopedic Bacchanalian knowledge, especially involving Belgian beer; however, further appearance at meetings was judged necessary for membership to be considered (following the IO/MOCO/GWR debacle). Christina discovered that she had attended the same primary school as the Chair.
629. 18-08-92 LONDON - WEST END: WPR; Rick, Judy, BS, COB; Bruce (Oracle). Part of Youngers/Theakstons "Tankard Trail"; "HOLYROOD", Wells Street, after which Rick and Judy departed; "WOOD STOCK", Bond Street; "COACH AND HORSES", Conduit Street. "VIGO'S", off Regent Street was found to be closed, at which point the Sec. departed, and 2 other venues were visited in the quest for tankard tokens.
630. 19-08-92 LONDON SW19 - WIMBLEDON: WPR; COB, SOS, Maria. For the sake of old times, these members met at the "ALEXANDRA" and they consumed some Beer there.
631. 21-08-92 LONDON SW16 - NADIR'S CURRY: SAR & N; COB, WPR; Cecilia (of Sao Paulo and Paris), Michael (of Abidjan). Indian food was served up to this international crowd.
632. 25-08-92 LONDON WC1 - BLOOMSBURY: WPR; SAR & N, Sec, BS, Oracle (Bruce). The meeting took place in the "OARSMAN" and the "THREE COMPASSES" which were both judged to be agreeable venues. The purpose was to obtain stickers towards the obtaining of free Theakstons Tankards, which were available once 15 stickers had been obtained by spending 15 at 5 different venues. Bruce was inducted as a member with the title "The Oracle", despite disconcerting preference for coke over beer.
633. 08-09-92 LONDON - WEST END: WPR; COB, Nadir, Ivone. Drinks in the "MOON UNDER WATER" were followed by an enjoyable Mexican meal in "Chiquitas" next door.
634. 11-09-92 LONDON - ARCHWAY: COB; WPR; Xionics members and ex-members. A traditional drinking session took place in "THE DOG".
635. 16-09-92 ROSE AND CROWN QUIZ: WPR; COB, Sec, Oracle. The meeting started in the "HOLYROOD" and moved on to the "ROSE AND CROWN" at the WPR's suggestion where members won the pub quiz and 8 pints, thanks to their arcane knowledge and strength in numbers. Meeting originally convened by the BS, but not attended due to sudden bug.
636. 25-09-92 LONDON - CLERKENWELL: Sec; WPR, COB. "THREE CROWNS" (Boddingtons), Rosebery Avenue. Small and Smoky. "LONDON SPA" (Youngs), Rosoman Street. Quiet and austere, apart from briefly obtrusive children. Automatic door was in fact operated by female toddler. "CITY PRIDE" (Fullers), Farringdon Lane. Commendable food, beers and general ambiance.
637. 30-09-92 LONDON - KENTISH TOWN: WPR; BS, COB. A Stranglers concert at the "TOWN AND COUNTRY CLUB", during which beer was taken, was preceded and followed by drinks in the "VULTURE'S PERCH".
638. 02-10-92 LONDON - CLERKENWELL: Sec; GR. "CITY PRIDE" (Fullers). Admirable Cumberland Sausages. "SEKFORDE ARMS" (Youngs) Sekforde Street. Correcting an error of 1988, when the Sec was unable to locate it, and had an impromptu alternative meeting at Waterloo instead.
639. 02-10-92 LONDON - ARCHWAY: COB; WPR, BS. Valuable research was performed at the Real Ale Festival held in "THE DOG".
640. 13-10-92 LONDON - KENTISH TOWN: BS; WPR, COB. Members met in the "VULTURE'S PERCH" before going to the "TOWN AND COUNTRY CLUB" for a "Blue Oyster Cult" concert - energetic and enjoyed by all except Anth who was absent due to illness. A return was made to the "VULTURE'S PERCH" for a final drink.
641. 04-11-92 ROSE AND CROWN QUIZ: WPR, BS, Oracle, Sec [2nd]. Sam Smiths. After the quiz a search for food was made among closing restaurants in most of the West End.
642. 11-11-92 ROSE AND CROWN QUIZ: BS, WPR, COB, Oracle, Tim, Paul, Fiona, Kevin ("Northern Git"). 2 teams; 1st and joint 2nd.
643. 14-11-92 LONDON - SOUTH BANK: BS; WPR, COB, Oracle; Tim, Paul, Fiona, Kevin ("Northern Git"). The Lord Mayor's Show fireworks were viewed in drizzle from Blackfriars Bridge by all except the COB who stayed in the "FOUNDERS ARMS". A return was made to the pub and more pints consumed until only the COB, BS and WPR were left. There followed a drawn out discussion re where to eat/drink next, with the eventual decision being food in Drummond Street and beer in Euston. On the way to London Bridge station, however, the party passed the "ANCHOR" and invoked the ECM clause and drank and ate there. The COB augmented his meal with a banana whose remains were thrown on the fire by the barman. Coachloads of Germans trooped through. Finally an overdue visit was made to the "GEORGE" where members joined the George Club in the hope of getting cheap beer.
644. 18-11-92 ROSE AND CROWN QUIZ: WPR, Sec, Rick, Oracle [1st] / BS, Paul, Fiona, Kevin ("Northern Git"), Fiona's brother [4th] / Fiona's father [did not take part]. Paul and Fiona arrived with the "Northern Git" Kevin and had to sit at a distant table until one next to the main party became available. Afterwards WPR walked back to Kings Cross with BS. The session was extended to the BS's establishment with multiple Baileys all round.
645. 25-11-92 ROSE AND CROWN QUIZ: WPR, BS, Oracle, COB, Paul, Fiona [2 teams; 1st equal]. Secretary unavailable due to derailment at London Bridge. Only 4 pints awarded to each team.
646. 29-11-92 LONDON - ISLINGTON: BS; COB, Anth, WPR. Palindromic date celebrated with outing to the "Screen on the Green" to see "Blade Runner - Directors Cut" followed by visit to "THE PASSAGE". Several pints of IPA consumed next to distracting video screens.
647. 01-12-92 JON SNOW QUIZ: Sec, WPR, BS, Oracle, Paul, Fiona [1st]. Upstairs room of Sam Smiths pub in Broadwick Street.
648. 02-12-92 STRATFORD - PIG'S EAR BEER FESTIVAL: BS; WPR. Various beers tried - BS found the better ones. BS won a free half pint on the tombola and attempted to find the strongest beer on offer (most expensive) and obtained "Old Tom - 1080". WPR ate a very large Shepherd's pie and BS had steak and kidney and chips. Onset of crap band forced members to the "TWO PUDDINGS" to drink 6X. No show from the COB and SOS.
649. 05-12-92 LONDON - WEST END: Ryan; WPR, BS. After a dislocated meeting at Leicester Square a drink in the "MOON UNDER WATER" was followed by an Indian Meal where the waiters were numerous but busy and too hyperactive to be effective, possible due to an overdose of MSG. This was followed by a trip to "OLD SHADES" prior to the Christmas meeting.
650. 06-12-92 LONDON NW8: COB; WPR, BS. BS and WPR met at the "COCKPIT THEATRE", decided the beer was crap and went to the pub opposite. On returning to the theatre, they obtained bottles of Kulta beer, from Finland (poster said 5.2%; bottle said 4.5%). Watched Jenny Eclair make very funny comments about her genitalia and body, and also Mark Thomas making funny comments about current affairs. Hunted for another pub (in the rain) when BS spotted "MARQUIS OF ANGLESEY" (Charles Wells). All drank Eagle and declined opportunity of extra pint after hours but used time to drink first pint.
651. 08-12-92 JON SNOW QUIZ: Sec, WPR, BS, Paul, Fiona, Simon. Good turnout negated when quiz cancelled due to staff preoccupation with a private party. BS and Oracle proceeded to Deep Pan Pizza (old Garfunkels in New Oxford Street) for "Eat as Much as you Can". New management very friendly (unlike old).
652. 11-12-92 LONDON - WEST END: WPR; Rick, Judy; Many PRS members. Tribute to the WPR's contribution to PRS: "The worst disaster using Unix boxes" - Computer Magazine. "Sorry it has to end like this - still, you had a good run" - PRS Manager. "Good project (our bit of it)" - Rick. "My greatest moment was winning the Wombles competition" - WPR. Very enjoyable Friday night do in "THE CAMBRIDGE", followed by excellent meal in the "Glory Kebab House". Probably the last in a long line of WPR leaving do's in the W1 area.
653. 11-12-92 LONDON - CLERKENWELL: Sec; GR. "CITY PRIDE" (Fullers). "THREE CROWNS" (Bass), Rosebery Avenue. Expensively catered for private party observed with envy in the back room, with huge plates of oysters etc. going in. "QUEEN'S HEAD" (Youngs), Attneave Street. Special, Guinness had. A less trendy and more local hostelry; felt by the GR to have a "Greater Manchester" tone.
654. 13-12-92 LONDON - WOOD GREEN: Anth; COB, WPR. Anth invited members to lunch but due to a double disaster involving an incendiary bicycle and a defective Water Board, was unable to provide utility services on the day. Undaunted, members joined him in "THE MASONS ARMS" (Free) and witnessed an extended Dominoes session with some old regulars. There then followed some traipsing: a visit to Safeway, where the WPR broke free and was caught eating bacon and eggs (excuse: 3pm and no food had). Then Anth visited another acquaintance, the WPR waiting nearby for an ever lengthening period wondering if the others had found a different route out before eventually giving up and going home. It is reported that an excellent thick pea soup was later had by the COB and Anth, produced with the assistance of an electric implant inserted through the latter's letterbox.
655. 15-12-92 LONDON - WEST END: BS; Sec, WPR, Oracle; Paul, Fiona, Simon. Members convened for Christmas quiz at "JON SNOW". All drank Old Brewery apart from Oracle who drank cider. Quiz provided several daft questions and a lot of guesswork on others; team came 3rd (no prize). Prizes were awarded for 1st and 2nd and last and closest answers for daft questions. One prize also awarded for a wrong(!) answer. The saving grace of a free buffet was enjoyed by all. BS, WPR and Oracle moved on to "THE SHIP"; WPR got stroppy with barman when he could provide no details of Fullers passport scheme (eventually found that brewers should be contacted). BS and WPR moved on to "THE ANGEL", St. Giles Circus, and enjoyed good pints of Courage Best, deciding en route to miss out "THE CONSERVATORY", formerly the "CAFE MUNCHEN", which had gone disco.
656. 16-12-92 LONDON - WEST END: WPR; COB, Rick; Tim, Phil. Members convened in the "ROSE AND CROWN" for Quiz night undeterred by the John Lewis bomb, the WPR missing the COB and standing outside the pub in the rain for 20 minutes while the COB sat inside unable to get a seat due to influx of orchestral members. They left by 8:00, whereupon the WPR ascertained that no quiz would, had or may ever be held. A good night was then enjoyed by all, with members stepping into the void and quizzing each other with obscure trivia questions before going on to the age old question of what was the worst ever record (mainly involving the phrase "do it"). Phil followed up quite unnecessarily with a stupendously long list of records about masturbation.
657. 18-12-92 LONDON - WEST END: WPR; Rick, Judy; Most of PRS. Members assembled in "THE CAMBRIDGE" before moving to the "Sri Siam" Restaurant in Old Compton Street where a traditionally expensive, delicately flavoured yet hot and spicy blow out meal was enjoyed by the select ex-ISDD team in a final reunion bash.
658. 19-12-92 LONDON - ISLINGTON: WPR; BS. Meeting convened to see "Death Becomes Her" at the Odeon, Nags Head, Holloway Road. Afterwards pints of Adnams / Tetleys in "OLD KING'S HEAD" - OK but not special - after rejecting "NAG'S HEAD" itself as smoky and dull with no decent beer. Then on to Islington for late night drinks in the "RAILWAY TAVERN" which was sadly found to be under interim management, the old lot having left 5 days previously. Spying no chance of a late nighter, halves of Pride were had and the "ECLIPSE" tried, with great success - late closing, free buffet (perhaps for Christmas) and the "Paul Sharp" band playing a load of 60s/70s songs and contriving to make them all sound the same. WPR struck by 1971 influence and forgotten "classics" like "Never Ending Song of Love" and "Is this the way to Amarillo?". BS obtained info about "PRINCE ALFRED" - another late opener.
21-12-92 LONDON - WEMBLEY: BS; Oracle. Status Quo Concert at "WEMBLEY ARENA". WPR not present due to excessive temperature.
659. 22-12-92 LONDON - WHITEHALL: Sec; Anth, BS, SOS, COB, Rick, Judy, WPR; Ryan, Pete (friend of Anth). Christmas meeting at "OLD SHADES". WPR 2 hours late following laborious journey round nether regions of north London due to security alert on Northern line. The SAR & N failed to show due to colds and the GR came and went before anyone else had arrived, but a convivial evening was had by the other attenders; various proposals were made for expansion/diversification of future meetings.
660. 23-12-92 LONDON - HAMMERSMITH: BS; WPR. Motorhead and Saxon Concert at "HAMMERSMITH ODEON", almost missed by both members because of a security alert on the Piccadilly line.
661. 24-12-92 LONDON - WEST END: Rick; Judy, WPR; Many from PRS. Traditional Christmas eve booze up for PRS and ex-PRS staff. Not as alcoholic as some years. WPR subsequently met Rick and Judy at Goodge Street station and got confused as to where he was going.
662. 24-12-92 LONDON - WIMBLEDON: Rick; WPR. Another traditional event - perhaps the most traditional of the SLBS calendar. WPR started in the "ALEXANDRA" but due to transportation difficulties Rick was unable to attend and so on Rick's arrival the pair walked up the hill (which Rick had just paid a taxi driver to be driven down) to the "DOG AND FOX". Crowded; Rick said hello to someone from PRS as usual; just as party were about to move on, table in prime location found and settled down to a good evening. Pub had just the right amount of liveliness especially after some large yobs, whom it was decided must be ex-KCS, left. Sammy Thurlow and Bobby Last look-alikes spotted. Members steadily got plastered until midnight; celebrated Christmas by drinking a bit more, then going down hill for taxis and suddenly felt sober as absolutely everyone else stunningly incapacitated especially three lads trying to hold each other up with the inevitable consequence that they all ended in a heap in the road. Strange woman with thuggish boyfriend in taxi queue pestered WPR while Rick wished she was pestering him instead.
663. 28-12-92 LONDON SW16 - STREATHAM: Paul Peter; SAR & N, WPR; Paul, Claudete, Franois, Cecilia, Ryan. Meeting held in conservatory bar of "GREYHOUND" where it was felt the Convener would be more at home. Several pints of local brew sampled, including Special (the weakest), Strong (the most favoured) and Dynamite. Convener slept throughout, and was shortlisted for membership in 2010. Following this meeting, a game of 221B Baker Street took place in Flat 5, Emsworth Court.
664. 28-12-92 LONDON SW4 - CLAPHAM: SAR & N; WPR, COB; Franois, Cecilia. This meeting occurred in the recently inaugurated "FRIESIAN AND FIRKIN" in Rectory Way. The presence of features such as piped music and a juke box were noted, which ran against the original policy of Firkin venues.
665. 30-12-92 LONDON SW19 - WIMBLEDON: COB; SAR, WPR, Sec, SOS, BS. The COB convened a traditional end of year Wimbledon meeting in the "ALEXANDRA". The SAR was late due to a gas emergency; however, there was still time for an acceptable number of rounds before closing time, and this traditional and stalwart body of members indulged in conversation about a variety of matters. The SAR presented the meeting with photographs of Japan and postcards in dubious taste by some 19th century Belgian artists. The WPR gave more recent members of the SLBS a potted history of the pub and its place in the Society's folklore. Proposals for more regular "First Tuesday" events were put forward by the COB and SOS.
