226. 11/01/85 LONDON SW19 - WIMBLEDON: Convened by SAR & N; present Chair, Rick, Duncan, Maria, Marta. After food and drink being provided at the SAR's parents residence, a drink was had at the "BREWERY TAP".
227. 16/03/85 LONDON W1 - ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING: Convened by the Society; present WPR, Rick, Sec, SOS, IQ, Nick without Hat, Sean, Zane. The AGM was transferred formally to the "CAMBRIDGE" Goodge Street, due to overcrowding in the Marquis of Anglesey. Despite having convened the meeting, the Chair was absent on business in Singapore, which called upon the WPR to act according to the Constitution, which he did by declaring the meeting constitutional. However, the absence of the Chair's overall authority led to a certain degradation amongst the membership, and the removal of some members' trousers.
228. 27/05/85 EAST SUSSEX - RYE: Convened by Chair; present WPR. Despite the rain and uncertain BR timetabling, the Chair and WPR kept tradition going with an outing to an area of research potential, as recommended in the Good Beer Guide. The meeting began at Charing Cross Station, where no alcohol was consumed, merely food and coffee. BR deeply regret defective floor-sweeper; square train noted. Journey via Tunbridge Wells, and extensive discourse on first storey guttering heard. The "Mermaid" was located but within not functioning, so the "OLDE BELL INN" was visited instead. Small friendly local with vast bank of light switches and multilingual signs. Boxes of scratches (matches) for sale. Then the (Read all about it in the) "STANDARD" was located in the Mint (Imperial). Oriental banknotes on wall. 2 pints Harveys. "Not Bad" said the Chair, exhorting the WPR to be Positive. The "SHIP"; unexpected music "more noise than sound". 1 1/2 pints Fremlins. Snap, Crackle, but no Pop (ha, ha). OK. The party eventually located the bar and beer garden of the "MERMAID", where the Chair maliciously guided the WPR to a refuse dump by describing it as a Gents. Photos taken by Chair. Finally the "YPRES CASTLE", as recommended by the Good Beer Guide, was visited. Magnificent view of where the sea used to be. Very pleasant beer garden with three year old kids in tracksuits and remarkably deep voiced mother. Speculation that she was an Actress (WPR) or Sex-change recuperant (Chair). Chair described sordid Gents (actually believed to be the Ladies) full of unwelcoming locals. 1/2 Flowers and 1 1/2 Guinness.
229. 05/07/85 LONDON SE1 - SOUTHWARK: Convened by Chair; present SAR & N, WPR, COB, Anth, Sec. The "FOUNDERS ARMS" was the venue.

231. 12/07/85 MIDDLESEX - HOUNSLOW: Convened by SAR & N; present Chair, WPR, Duncan, Jane & Pete. The party met at the "VICTORIA", a Fullers pub, the SAR & N and Jane & Pete having previously been entertained to dinner at Duncan's residence.
232. 13/07/85 CAMBRIDGESHIRE - CAMBRIDGE: Convened by SAR & N; present Sec, Alex & Jackie. The SAR & N were proceeding to the venue from the station at a late hour, and met the Sec who had given up waiting and was on the way home. However, there was time to arrive at the "LITTLE ROSE", and convene the meeting, together with Alex and Jackie, who arrived just before closing time. Sightseeing then occurred at St. John's College, where the SAR was informed of all recent College events (mostly deaths of Fellows) by the Head Porter. Tea was had in the Blue Boar, and research ensued, before going home, in the "STATION HOTEL".
233. 14/07/85 SURREY - CARSHALTON: Convened by Chair & K; present SAR & N, WPR, Rick, COB, Anth. The meeting took place in the "GREYHOUND", and then proceeded to watch a cricket match in Stanley Park, which featured Rick.
234. 11/11/85 LONDON WC2 - WESTMINSTER: Convened by Chair; present WPR, Rick, Sec. "ADMIRAL NELSON" (Watneys), much as ever. "LADY HAMILTON" Duncannon Street; grossly wine bar-ised, lager, "a bit of a hole really". The "GRIFFIN" Villiers Street, (Tolly Cobbold); Fawlty Towers discussed. The "GEORGE" off Villiers Street (Charrington IPA); orthodox. The "SHIP AND SHOVEL" (Free House); "Underneath the arches", curiously deserted. The "CHANDOS" St. Martins Lane (Samuel Smiths); also deserted, florid new decor.
235. 23/11/85 KENT - GRAVESEND: Convened by Sec; present Chair, WPR (until 3 pm), GR. At this meeting the GR was formally installed as a member. "NEW FALCON" West Street (Trumans); Best, pleasant decor. "CALL BOY" Harmer Street (Shepherd Neame); Draught Abbey, basic as always. "JOLLY DRAYMAN" Wellington Street; IPA, cosy apart from adjacent train vibrations, game of "Euchre" on offer. Then Caesar's Restaurant in King Street was visited for large salad-based meals with lager, wine and coffee. Filling, but too much red cabbage. Afternoon tea was then had at 7 Golf Links Avenue, and research resumed at the "TROCADERO" Windmill Street (Trumans); long Grecian-wallpapered bar, '50s music. "PIER HOTEL" West Street; plush seating, Everards Tiger Bitter, but no Gravedigger (cf. 1982 Gravesend meeting). "PRINCE ALBERT" Wrotham Road; Shepherd Neame Master Brew. "RAILWAY BELL" Clive Road (Trumans); tube train decor removed since 1982, relatively full of local youth.
236. 24/12/85 LONDON SW19 - WIMBLEDON: Convened by WPR; present Chair, Rick, John, Hugh. Christmas Eve in the "HAND IN HAND".
