Forgiveness -
from God, toward yourself and others - is essential to the process of healing. It's a
choice you make - a choice that is birthed by God in your heart. Forgiveness is part of
the great gift God longs to give you. It's the key to the spiritual and emotional freedom
that is available, just around the corner.
God's forgiveness hinges only on one thing: our acknowledgement of our own sin.
We do not need to fear that God won't forgive us. He already knows about your abortion. He
not only knows what you did, but He was there when it happened. There is nothing you have
done that He doesn't know, didn't see. He waits only for you to acknowledge it, and you
can do so without fear because you know His response. He will forgive. He will rejoice.
He'll throw a party and invite all the angels!
No matter what pressures you faced, regardless of what misinformation you'd been given,
deep down, you know that the decision was yours. For many women, that truth haunts them
like a ghost. But, if God, whose standards are holier than yours, whose hopes for you were
even higher than your own - if He has forgiven you, can you not forgive yourself?
Yes, the ultimate responsibility was yours. But that doesn't mean it was yours alone.
Those who influenced you, wittingly or unwittingly, to make that decision, bear the guilt
as well. And though you may be forgiven for your part, you will never be entirely free
until you have forgiven them for their part too. God never asks us to approve what was
done, to condone the wrong. He just wants us to stop holding them accountable for it - and
let Him hold them accountable instead.
If we freely admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just
true to His own nature and promises and will forgive our sins and continuously cleanse us
from all unrighteousness everything not in conformity to His will in purpose, thought and
action.
I John 1:9
I acknowledge my sin to you, and my iniquity I did not hide. I said, I will confess my
transgressions to the Lord continually unfolding the past until all is told - then You
instantly forgave me the guilt and iniquity of my sin.
Psalms 32:5
Fear not, for you shall not be ashamed; neither be confounded and depressed, for you shall
not be put to shame. For you shall forget the shame of your youth, and you shall not
remember the reproach of your widowhood any more.
Isaiah 54:4
Fear not, there is nothing to fear, for I am with you; do not look around you in terror
and be dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen and harden you to difficulties; yes,
I will help you; yes, I will hold you up and retain you with My victorious right hand of
rightness and justice.
Isaiah 41:10
For You, O Lord, are good, and ready to forgive our tresspasses, sending them away,
letting them go completely and forever; and You are abundant in mercy and loving -
kindness to all those who call upon You.
Psalm 86:5
Bless the Lord,O my soul, and forget not one of all His benefits - Who forgives every one
of all your iniquities, Who heals each one of all your diseases, Who redeems your life
from the pit and corruption, Who beautifies, dignifies and crowns you with loving -
kindness and tender mercy.
Psalms 103:2-4
And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him and let
it drop, leave it and let it go, in order that your Father Who is in heaven may also
forgive you your own failings and shortcomings and let them drop.
Mark 11:25-26
So if when you are offering your gift at the altar you remember that your brother has any
grievance against you, leave your gift at the altar and go. First make peace with your
brother, and then come back and present your gift.
Matthew 5:23-24
And in wrath his master turned him over to the torturers (yourself), till he should pay
all that he owed. So that My heavenly Father will deal with every one of you, If you do
not freely forgive your brother from your heart his offenses.
Matthew 18:34-35
Repay no one for evil, but take thought for what is honest and proper and noble aiming to
be above reproach in the sight of everyone. If possible, as far as it depends on you, live
at peace with everyone. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave the way open for God's
wrath; for it is written, vengeance is Mine, I will repay, says the Lord.
Romans 12:17-19
Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another.
Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
Colossians 3:13
Let all bitterness and indignation and wrath (passion, rage, bad temper) and resentment
(anger, animosity) and quarelling (brawling, clamor, contention) and slander (evil
speaking, abusive, or blasphemous language) be banished from you, with all malice (spite,
ill will, or baseness of any kind). And become useful and helpful and kind to one another,
tenderhearted (compassionate, understanding, loving-hearted), forgiving one another
readily and freely, as God in Christ forgave you.
Ephesians 4:31-32
Come now, and let us reason together, says the Lord. Though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be like wool.
