What's In A Name?

How do I know the "right" name?

If your child had been born, you as the parent would have had the responsibility of choosing a name. There is no right or wrong name, you simply give your child a name that has meaning to you. While God "gives" a few select people a specific name, most just select a name.

There are many books of names that list meanings and even verses that may be helpful in choosing. The name is for your benefit in thinking about your child as a person. We will all get a new name in Heaven chosen by God himself.

Do I give my child a last name?

That is totally up to you. Because a last name signifies being a part of a family, many find it meaningful to include a last name. Sometimes a husband offers to "adopt" his wife's child by giving his last name, although he was not the father. This is profoundly reaffirming.

What about the sex of my baby?

Most of us don't know if our babies were boys or girls. Some women have a strong feeling that it was one or the other; others don't have a clue. You can choose a name that could be for either a male or a female.

In order to help us think about our children as individuals, it is acceptable to assume it was a boy or a girl. If we find out we were wrong when we get to Heaven, it won't matter then!

Please leave us your NAME and sign our guestbook
