Sussan Deihim
08/24/02
Internationales Jazzfestival
Saalfelden, Germany
Sussan Deihim’s Madman Of God - Performance of the material on her first LP (more or less) - " ' Madman Of God is a collection of classic melodies taken from the Persian repertoire, which were composed around the poetry of Rumi, Saadi, Djami and other Sufi writers from the 11th to the 19th centuries. These pieces are as well-known by my grandparents as they are by my own generation, and they represent the torch songs of classical Persian music.' The result is an inspired, exciting and deeply spiritual masterpiece. Deyhim and her sublime voice are surrounded by contributions from players as diverse as Iranian classical musician Reza Derakhshani, percussionist Glen Velez (a long-time collaborator of Steve Reich), veteran jazz bassist Reggie Workman (who has been heard alongside the likes of John Coltrane), percussionist Will Calhoun (who has drummed with Living Colour as well as with BB King) and others. Although practically all the sounds are performed by acoustic instruments and voices, Sussan Deyhim's innovative arrangement and production have shaped "Madman Of God" into a very modern soundscape." - Source: unknown; presumably FM > ? > CDR Lineage: wav > EAC > dBPowerAmp > FLAC - Available in FLAC or Audio WAV - No setlist available - Avant2

Sandy Solo Acoustic - 45:06 minutes - "This was ripped from a CDR using EAC. I then cleaned it up in Cooledit Pro. This entailed removing numerous click & pops & filling a couple of dropouts. For what it's worth, I don't believe many of these faults were introduced by bad audio disc copying, rather they were inherent in the source. I also faded out the last track, as the original started another song, & just cut off after a few notes. I figure this is more annoying than if it hadn't been there at all, so I faded it out just before the next song was introduced. Had there ever been more of the concert available a new track would have been started before the next song, so I assume the taper ran out of tape at that point. I checked the wav files & discovered that the tracks weren't split on sector boundaries. I fixed this with Shntool, then I converted to SHN format with MKWact."- I also have the raw show if that interests you more - Available in SHN or Audio WAV

One Last Sad Refrain - Sandy's last gig before her untimely demise. A more complete version of this has seen commercial release, but it is out of sequence, the inbetween audience interaction cut out, and the guitar lines re-recorded and overdubbed! This is the real deal from the original tapes. It kicks the commercial release in the tail IMO.
