Complete Set - "This
was the Teardrops' first London gig and they appeared on the same bill
as Joy Division and Echo and the Bunnymen (also playing their first gig
in the capital)This is a stereo SBD recording but it is pretty rough
sounding. The instrument levels and positions fluctuate quite a lot and
the bass is distorted throughout. The keyboard and guitar are quite distinctly
recorded but the other instruments and occasionally the vocals sound
more AUD at times. The overall sound is pretty muddy and there's a degree
of hiss. Despite the sonic shortcomings it was a great set, and if you
like this period of the band you'll enjoy it I'm sure." - SDB > generation

" I
was at this show, and still have the poster for it hanging
in my living room." Lineup :
Three
Day Stubble;
Sun City Girls;
Thinking Fellers Union Local 282 "I can't remember whether this was the first or second TFUL282/SCG double-bill at the Great American. The first was one of the most brilliant SCG performances ever, but the second was one of their "theatrical" pieces (hobos around a campfire theme) that was ... uh ... interesting (w/Eyvynd Kyang [sp.]; the other night on that time through SF at Bottom of the Hill was one of the "other" most brilliant SCG performances). I also remember that this show was one of the few times I was captivated as much "musically" by Caroliner as by their costumes/props/sets/day-glo extravaganza OD. The poster for the show is absolutely stunning (by Grux [I assume] of Caroliner)...I used to work with Hugh of TFUL282, but he got laid off a couple months ago . Saw his latest project (the Men) at the Great American a couple weeks ago, though. Very good and TFUL-like.One or more of them lives on the east coast now (and I think one in Portland), so it's not really practical for them to be a band anymore. At least they've done a couple of excellent reunion shows (one with Gino Robair on second drums & synth), so hopefully we haven't seen the last of them. I know that they all still make music, but I'm not sure how public any of that has been - I know that Hugh hadn't done anything publicly until Olivia Tremor Control offered him the opening spot a couple weeks ago.Hard to believe that it was over 15 years ago that I walked into the CW Saloon and had my mind blown by the double bill of TFUL282 and World Of Pooh (featuring Barbara Manning, future TFUL282 drummer Jay Padget, and Brandan Kearney, who was the musical director for Caroliner for the better part of their history). THAT was a superb welcome to the Bay Area.", Doug (acidhangover), 09/19/05 - No setlist available |

space was jam-packed. We were singing only inches form the

It was a jolly time. Difficulty often births inspired sets.
There was a pompous, Ignatious-type nearby who I bet was
a local music critic. He explained everything we did to his
girlfriend, and spoke loudly and officially about The Cure
not coming to ST. Louis til '92. He made Brian write down
some band name, noticed Brian's scrawl-filled notebook and
said, "Ah, you keep a journal. Good! Good!" He
also made it clear that Brian should be honored that he was "impressed" with
our set. No one offered us a place to stay, so we happily
drove to a motel in the suburbs. during playing: rockstar.

David Thomas and the Accordion Club - (Ira

minutes - "Excellent - David has a pocket full of happy songs and
a pocket full of sad ones, and everyone wants to hear the sad ones. Most
songs are either from
old David Thomas albums or from the recent Pere Ubu albums (except Worlds in Collision), plus there's "Surfer Girl", "Pushin' Too Hard", "Katherine" (traditional), "Sloop John B" and the"Goodnight" song from the Lawrence Welk show. "The Story of My Life" read as a poem. And a new song called "Montana". And a version of "Rhapsody In Pink" that gets very silly. And Dave's personable introductions to keep the show rolling. Really sweet." |

Complete Set - "Welcome
to our little soiree." Thus RT greeted the eighty or so assorted
press folk and industry others who crammed themselves into the tiniest
of underground clubs in lower Manhattan for an intimate solo
acoustic sneak-peek at his forthcoming-in-the US cd, "The Old Kit Bag." Though forty-five minutes is obviously too short a time to do his new cd justice, RT's welcome invited us to treat the evening's event as a sort of musical wine-tasting -- not a full-out party, but just a sip of the heady vintages to come when the cd and full band tour are finally uncorked. Judging by the enthusiastic response to the show and the awed comments I overheard afterwards, I'd say RT definitely sent that entire roomful of people home Monday night thirsty for more. First, the setlist, which consisted of all OKB songs with one 1000 Years song [another upcoming cd -- available with luck by NYC shows] thrown in for good measure." - Solo Acoustic - Excellent! |

Reggae On the River - d1t08
Monkey Man: Diginoise at 0:04 and 0:10. I reduced it as much
as I can.
d2t02 Funky Kingston: After the first note there was a 5 second
dropout. I cut this out and smoothed it over. There might be a
couple of notes missing.
d2t05 54-46 Was My Number: There is static during the intro to the
keyboardist. I think this is an instrument problem. It starts at
4:19 until Keyboard solo ends.

and judging by the short length and some of the chat

show most likely from a radio broadcast,
although I don't know the lineage before it reached my hands.
I also don't know where or when this show took place - it's
simply labelled Amsterdam 87, with no further details. Any
help pinpointing it would be appreciated: at one point David
McComb mentions it is the last night of the tour, and at
another that his brother Rob is seated due to a broken foot.
Our resident Triffids expert Pete thinks this dates it to
Nov/Dec 1987. Anyone who happened to be there at all?" - Source:
