Coachella Festival
Palm Springs, CA
Complete Show -" This set was recorded while the Gang of Four were doing a gig at the Coachella Festival near Palm Springs CA, their first US gig in decades. They did not do a show in town for contractual reasons. Nic Harcourt travelled out to the desert and recorded this somewhere locally I presume. The date of the Coachella show was May 1 2005, so this is around then. It was broadcast for the first time on October 19th, 2005.
Tracks 1-13 : Recorded off the air - Not any kind of podcast/webcast - this is from line of site / walking distance to their transmitter. Tracks 14-17: were transcoded from a crappy 48kbps mp3 podcast. These tracks WERE NOT AIRED and have been made available only as a podcast/webstream so far. hope that's OK just for the sake of the complete session. Plus it all fits on one cd. They finally played a gig at the Palace in Hollywood Oct 20th. Amazing" - Source: Cheapo antenna on the outside wall, an Akai tuner from a thrift store, and OEM minijack audio in to a powermac G4. Captured in 16 bit AIFF with LineIn and AudioHijack Pro. Edited with SoundStudio 2.0.5. Converted to FLAC with Xact. 1.4 (at 8) - Available in FLAC or Audio WAV - FALL-15

Jim Wise remembers Not Fade Away as the encore while Jerry Moore remembers Lonesome And A Long Way From Home as the encore. Until a recording surfaces we may never know the truth." Voxhall
Aarhus, Denmark
Complete Show - With Vic Chesnutt - 2 hours and 27 minutes - "Probably the best sounding soundboard bootleg I ever made. The venue Voxhall has the perfect sound set-up for doing soundboard recordings. Levels are perfects. Vic uses reverb (or whatever it's called) on both guitar and vocals, so it simulates a bit more "room" on the recording (a thing often missing on soundboard recordings). But in general the sounds is nice and audience is audible underneath it all. A special treat on this recording are the songs Vic did with Howe and his band. Just a couple of songs, but altogether about 30 minutes. Extremely nice." - Soundboard -> Minidisc -> optical transfer to computer -> CD-R -> Computer (Exact Audio Copy) -> flac - Available in FLAC or Audio WAV

Complete Set - The very first performance by the original Palomino's, a loosely knit amalgamation of NYC's downtown improvisors. It has very little to do with the later incarnations that featured Michael Stipe,Syd Straw and Jack Bruce. This is an unclassifiable mix of noise,funk,punk and post-harmolodic jazz(hows that for a genre?) This is an audience recording that has a few generations on it, but still comes highly reccommended, as it blows the album this version of the band made right out of the water. With Anton Fier, Drums; Arto Lindsay, Guitar vocals; Bill Laswell, 8 String Bass;
Jamaaladeen Tacuma, Steinberger Bass; John Zorn, Reeds; David Van Tiegham, Drums Percussion - Comes coupled with 05/83, Moers Fest, New York - Available in SHN or Audio WAV - No setlist available

New Jazz at The Public Concert Series - "...This was the second ever performance by the band, with David Moss replacing David Van Tiegham, and Holy shit, what a show it was. A near perfect blend of post-punk, harmolodics, free-improv noise, and bone-rattling funk. Although they perform a lot of the structures that would later make up their debut LP, here they have a much looser, organic feel, with nary a drum machine in sight. The interplay between Tacuma and Laswell suggests some new breed of multi-armed bass monster. Moss was a one-man orchestra with his Bertoia sound sculptures, and amazing vocal range. Zorn and Lindsay did what they do best, and Fier pummeled his kit, whilst more or less successfully, imposing some order on the proceedings....If Beefhearts' Magic Band ever had any east-coast competition, it would be these guys. The concert was in 2 sets; tracks 1-3 the first, and tracks 4-7 the second. The tape is a decent recording from about halfway back in the hall, there are a few seconds missing at the beginning of a couple of the tracks, but otherwise its the complete show" - Source: Aud>Sony D5>cass(a few gen)>Peak>Xact>shn - Available in SHN or Audio WAV - Avant1

SHOW NOTES:
Opening act was Brian Jonestown Massacre. The first half to two thirds of the show was recorded directly in front of the sound board. Lots of crowd chatter here, but definitely the best sound. Finally moved about 20-30 feet closer to the stage for the remainder of the show. Pardon the clanging beer bottles, though in some respects it adds to the "loungy" feel. The trash receptacle was right next to the soundboard and the employees enjoyed chunking them from a distance. - DAT/Conversion/Seed: Jack Stenner 02.02.2004 - motilityman at yahoo dot com Source: AUD(fob) > SP CMC-8 > Sony TCD-D8 (48.0 Khz) Conversion: Sony TCD-D8 > Sony RM-D3K > Bias Peak > xACT > flac- Available in FLAC or Audio WAV

Complete Show - "Opening act was Tobin Sprout. The tape was recorded approximately half way between the stage and the soundboard. The first song has levels issues as the mics and local soundboard were adjusted. A tape change was made at the first of disc two, track 12, but was blended in fairly seamlessly. Other than normalizing and a few gain adjustments, nothing else has been done to the audio (no EQ, compression, etc.)" - DAT/Conversion/Seed: Jack Stenner 11.18.2004 - motilityman at yahoo dot com Source: AUD(fob) > Sound Professionals CMC-8 (Cardoid) > Sony TCD-D8 (48.0 Khz) Conversion: Sony TCD-D8 > Sony RM-D3K > Pro Tools 6.7 > Jam 6 > xACT > flac - Available in FLAC or Audio WAV

Complete Set - "Jeffery was a little drunk. At the 9:30 there used to be a post at the center of the stage. The stage was a square stage in the far corner of a square room. During Sex Beat Jeffery ran smack into the post, briefly knocking himself out. You'll hear another voice (Mike Lavella, former Pittsburgh punk who now publishes "Gearhead") who picked up the mic & uttered the final Sex Beat."
