After two years of making camps and selling them to friends and at conventions, I decided to test the "Ebay Waters" and see how they move with the general gaming public. I created two new camps, both Medieval ones, and put them on ebay. Both sold for more than I was charging at conventions for them, so it appears Camps on Ebay is a success.
My "business plan" right now is to do a batch of four or so every month. I'll put them on sale on ebay one a week (can't compete with myself, can I?!). That way, each week I'll have income arriving from camp sales, which should keep me motivated to continue doing them. In the long run, I'll use this money to fund new gaming purchases. Right now, though, I'm using it to pay bills -- how boring (I just bought new replacement windows for my home -- youch!)!
Anyway, at the top of this section will be the "Current" camp for sale on ebay (with link to it), and beneath it will be links to past camps I've sold there. Once again, that is assuming I stay motivated to keep all this updated. Anyway, check out my camps for sale, and if you're interested, put in a bid on them: It goes to a great cause - ME! Also, if you like something you've seen, and are interested in commissioning a camp on the side, I am still open for business on that, as well.
Here are some photos of them.
This camp was inspired by a period drawing of Kubla Khan's massive, wheeled HQ wagon tent. Obviously built on a slightly less megalomaniac scale, this wheeled yurt is a perfect camp for a steppe nomad army. The solid wheeled wagon and round yurt tent are scratch-built. The 15mm oxen and youth drover are from Falcon UK, while the guard spearman is from Old Glory. All are painted to a high standard, and the 40mm x 80mm base is flocked with a realistic scrub grass look. If you have a nomadic DBA army roaming the steppes in search of a camp, click on the link above to find it on ebay!
One of the things I like best about my favorite Ancients rules sets, is that it allows me to indulge my creativity in modeling an army's camp. Generally, every army is required to have one and this gives me free rein to make a mini-diorama that can bring the army to life. Here are some of my favorites.
Here are links to some of the camps that adorn my own armies. For the ones I've sold to friends and fellow gamers, check out the next section down.
Click on the link above to see a page which lists the camps I've sold, and gives further links to pictures and commentary on how the camps were constructed.
