Huns

I painted these Huns as part of my Byzantine project. They are one of the more famous "barbarian" peoples from History. Even non-History buffs have heard of Attila the Hun! The Late Romans and Byzantines used them as mercenaries, allies and fought them as enemies, too. Greatly feared by their opponents for their savagery, they were nomadic raiders who pillaged from one end of Europe to the other. These are all Essex 15mm figures.

Hunnic Heavy Cavalry

Hun Heavy Cavalry

Only a small percentage of the Hunnic army fought as heavy cavalry, usually the chieftains and their bodyguards. They were armed with bows and spears, along with various other side arms.

Hunnic Light Cavalry

Hun Light Cavalry

The bulk of a Hunnic army was composed of unarmored horse archers. Unlike some light cavalry, the Huns did not fear to charge in and close with their opponents when they saw an advantage. In addition to bows, they often carried lassoes, axes and other side arms.
