Jewish Writing

Several different webpages in our Jewish Writing website deal with the methods for posting an article to Jewish Writing.

Let's remove any confusion:

Who are you?

  1. If you are submitting a critique as a writer, then please read how the system works.
  2. If you are submitting information as a publisher, then please see the specific information for publishers, for the special rights of publishers, and for publishing in general.
  3. Similarly, if you are a publisher's agent, then please share any relevant information with us.
  4. Your own self-proclaimed level is important to us - whether you are a novice, or a beginner, whether you are on an elementary level, or an accomplished expert.

What is the procedure?

  1. Before submitting a critique of somebody's writing, be sure to read the general background, as well as the specific guidelines for writers.
  2. Before posting an article for critiquing on our website, please check that it has the proper e-mail and word processor format, and also its general format. Viruses are only one of the issues here.
  3. Be sure to give credit to Jewish Writing when submitting your critiqued document to a publisher.
  4. Your submission may have to fit in with a specific schedule, which can only be modified based on certain preset criteria.
  5. All writers should focus on specific genres as defined by Jewish Writing.
  6. Before submitting your biography, please compare its purpose and content with the requirements in Jewish Writing.

How should you go about it?

  1. You should submit your best possible work. It should already have been put through several drafts, checked for spelling and other basic issues, and also edited and proofread professionally before we see it.
  2. Please relate to the specific information relating to your own field, especially if you submit materials that relate to other aspects of the writing trades, such as translating, or editing, or proofreading.
  3. Before submitting anything of a commercial nature, please view our related policy.
  4. Complete all of the preliminary work before submitting your article for critiquing. Although we are interested in your writing and not your writing skills, we do expect you to review the checklist for the basics.
  5. Your preliminary work should include any requisite verification of information in the library or Internet, but without violating our own spruced-up version of the copyright laws and rules against plagiarism as interpreted by Jewish Writing.
  6. Please check whether there are any special considerations relating to the specific genre of the article that you are about to submit.

What are some caveats?

  1. Not everything belongs on Jewish Writing. We only include information from our own definition of Jewish authors, and the material must include what we consider to be the proper and relevant Jewish content. Furthermore, Jewish Writing does not deal with manuscripts unless they fall within the purview of our regulations.
  2. Jewish Writing is not the place to publicize your own material. However, it is possible that it will be eligible for inclusion in Jewish Reviews.
  3. Be sure that the manuscript does not violate the special regulations of Jewish Writing relating to original material.

What else can you do?

  1. We would like others to know about Jewish Writing. Therefore, please let reporters know about our canned publicity article (but they have to receive permission before using it).
  2. You can prepare another article and submit it for critiquing. It will receive priority.
  3. After your article is critiqued, there are various publicity options available in related forums. Some of them may be listed in our links section.
  4. Don't forget us after your article has been critiqued. You will want to benefit from some of our other forums for the writing trades.
