A publisher's agent or an agency is a necessary evil.
It's troubling to have to pay somebody to push through a manuscript. It's even more troubling when we know that the manuscript is very good, and that the world should be beating a path to our door.
However, it's difficult to beat the system.
Some people do get away with it. They are just somehow "discovered" without having to go through an agent.
Others may have published a large number of manuscripts, and yet they still require the services of an agent for each subsequent document.
There are two options:
The nice thing is that we'll be able to communicate with agents on Jewish Writing.
Since many of us do have to use agents, we may as well understand more and learn how to survive best with them.
