There are various reasons to avoid using Microsoft Word™ format.
If you did prepare your document using Word, then you can format it for our pusposes by clicking on Save As Text. However, you may have to manually remove line breaks and make other changes before submitting it.
Be sure to turn off Word's smart quotes in Tools/Options/Preferences before typing your draft. If you leave them in, then your document may have ugly code.
You can verify that everything has been converted properly by copying the converted manuscript to a plain text email document or to Notepad. Do NOT check off that the document can be saved in Unicode format.
This method is not foolproof, but if there are straight quotes, and if the only letters that appear show on your keyboard, then it may be ready to be submitted.
Although we are willing to take the effort to prepare your document for posting on the website, it really is not fair to expect us to remove strange code or line breaks.
