| April SEMANA SANTA Silay City Highlights of activities fall on Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Black Saturday and Easter Sunday. The Christian Community Theater in coordination with the Silay City Government presents contemporized and stylized version of the sacrifices, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Good Friday procession of the images of Saints made in Italy and crafted by the local artists attract believers and tourists alike. April-May IFUGAO CULTURAL FESTIVALS Ifugao Tungoh Ad Hungduan, Gotad Ad Hingyon, Amlong Ad Kiangan and Haggiyo. These events are related to thanksgiving rites of the Ifugao before and after rice planting and harvesting. April 1-30 "CANOPY WALK" Claveria, Misamis Oriental Located in a lush virgin rainforest in Claveria, Misamis Oriental which is an hr. and 45 min. jeepney ride from CDO. Aside from the canopy walk, one can also experience the thrill of river trekking close to the forest and cascading waterfalls. A great escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. April 7 MT. PROVINCE FOUNDATION ANNIVERSARY Bontoc, Mt. Province Foundation anniversary of the province of Mt. Province with an agro-industrial trade fair showcasing the products ana us attraction. The event is called Gawis at Mt. Province which also features cultural dances. April 9 ARAW NG KAGITINGAN Mt. Samat, Pilar Bataan The fall of Bataan is commemorated every year. Top government officials, Japanese and American WW II veterans including their Filipino counterparts and visitors go to Mt. Samal to participate at the annual rites held to honor the bravery of the soldiers who fought for the defense of Bataan. April 10-15 KALILANG FESTIVAL Marawi City A festival commemorating the charter anniversary celebration of Marawi City. Highlights of the festival are Quran reading contest, presentation of colorful Muslim songs and dances, Islamic Quiz Bee, horsefight, exhibit of Maranao crafts and delicacies, traditional games and musical instruments competition. April 17-21 CONQUER MT. APO Davao City An annual summer climb at Mt. Apo, the highest peak in the Philippines with an elevation of 10,311 ft. above sea level. April 23-30 SERENATA SA FORT SANTIAGO Fort Santiago Military Brass Band concert series. this activity revives the tradition of open-air concert during summertime. April 25 FEAST OF ST. AUGUSTINE Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro Cultural presentations. With the Search for Miss Teens held annually and is open for young and pretty damsels all over the Province. April 27 KADAUGAN SA MAKTAN Mactan Island Cebu To commemorate the historic battle of Mactan between the Spanish Conquistador Fernando Magallanes and Mactan Chieftain Lapu-Lapu. April 27-30 SAKNUNGAN FESTIVAL San Jose, Occidental Mindoro Festival incorporating the exhibition of the cultural heritage of Mindoro�fs ethnic communities. April 29-May 1 PISTA�fY DAYAT Lingayen, Pangasinan Thanksgiving festival for the year�fs bountiful harvest from the sea, celebrated every 1st of May. Various activities are lined up such as fluvial parade that features small sea crafts and bancas decked with flowers and fruits. Another highlight is the selection of the "Limgas na Dayat" of Queen of the Sea; sand castle competition, sports competition/exhibition by the beach. Black Saturday TURUGPO HA CAMANSI Brgy. Camansi Carigara, Leyte Traditional joust of native carabaos and horses on Black Saturday. Easter Sunday SUNDUAN HA CARIGARA Carigara, Leyte Easter Sunday celebrations with songs and dances and a colorful parade of floats depicting the rich history of the town of Carigara. Easter Sunday MANOK NI SAN PEDRO FESTIVAL San Pedro, Laguna The first festival of San Pedro highlighted by a mardi gras with a night market open for 365 days at the San Pedro Town Center. Holy Week MT. APO SUMMER FESTIVAL Mt. Apo, Kidapawan City, Magpet, Makilala Trek to the highest peak is undertaken annually during the Lenten Season, a project in coordination with DOT-11 City Government of Kidapawan, Municipal Government of Magpet and mountaineering clubs of Region 12. 4th Sunday of April TANDUYONG FESTIVAL San Jose City San Jose City, in the province of Nueva Ecija, prides itself as the "Onion Capital of the Phils." as a leading producer of onion, garlic, rice & vegetables. Every year, on the fourth Sunday of April, the people of San Jose dance through the main street in a colorful, enchanting celebration of the blessing of the harvest. Visitors are welcome to share the joy, warmth, rhythm and spectacle of real Phils.. On the Festival Day, the streets are filled with contingents of dancers, outfitted striking, multi-hued native costumes. Exotic rhythms of improvised musical instruments fill the air as the dancers gyrate and sway to the beat of life. 4th Sunday of April PASASALAMAT FESTIVAL La Carlota City Negros Occidental A celebration in thanksgiving for a bountiful harvest, characterized by the beating of drums, maracas, congas, bongos and other percussion instruments. Good Friday SENACULO Paracale, Camarines Norte This is a Lenten presentation re-enacting the Passion of Christ; Lenten observance includes Visita Iglesia or altar visitation and procession. Holy Week MORIONES FESTIVAL Boac, Mogpog & Gasa Marinduque A festival of the "Moriones", the colorful garbed and masked soldiers and centurions; culminates in the re-enactment of the beheading of Longinus. The entire towns of Boac, Mogpog and Gasan are virtually converted into huge stages as the story of Longinus unfolds. Holy Week SEMANA SANTA AT IGUIG CALVARY HILLS Iguig, Cagayan Traditional presentation of the passion and death of Christ on an 11-hectare rolling terrain of the larger-than-life size 14 Stations of the Cross. Holy Week "PANAAD" Camiguin An annual pilgrimage where people from all walks of life trek around the island�fs 64 kms.. Circumferential road and converge at Bonbon for the uphill station of the cross. Lenten Season AGOO SEMANA SANTA Agoo, La Union The Holy Week celebration, particularly Good Friday, is a display of religiosity and traditional prompt. Good Friday procession is the climax of the Semana Santa, a devotion manifesting the fervor and faith of Agoo folks. There are about 30 carozas (carriages and their fixture) beautifully adorned, All lined up at the Plaza dela Virgen, remarkable tradition dating from the Spanish times and the Penitential Procession of Women in honor of the Mother of Christ, all dressed in black. |
