Discovery of Electro-Magnetic Fields
In 1822, the Danish physicist, Hans Christian Oersted was giving a lecture to his class. At the end of lecture, accidentally he held a wire which was connected to a voltic cell above a magnetic needle. At first nothing happened since he was holding the wire perpendicular to the needle. But when by chance he held the wire horizontally and parallel to the needle he was astonished to see the needle change position. With quick insight, he reversed the current and found that the needle deviated in the opposite direction.
It was by this chance that the relationship between electricity and magnetism was discovered, and the path opened for the invention of Faraday of the electric dynamo.
