Cineplexes |
| Unclear
where the first cineplex was built. Tanjong Golden
Village opened the first hi-tech cineplexes in Malaysia
in 1995. Remember the days of Federal and Odeon cinemas, with their crummy seats, grainy screens and screechy sound? What you don't know, you can't miss. Our parents probably enjoyed their Sound of Music and Bridge over the River Kwai just as well. But try watching Star Wars: First Episode or Gladiator in old, old cinemas--you'll wonder what the fuss was about. Multiplexes like TGV and GSC probably revived the cinema industry in Malaysia. By the mid-1980s video was pulling a huge chunk of audience away from cinemas. But with the introduction of multiplexes, there was a real reason to go to the cinemas again. With digital surround sound, wide screens and stadium seating, the public could enjoy movies the way they were made to be. Incidentally, TGV was the first to install THX in their KLCC cineplex. |
