Equipment Needed
For Brewing
A lot of the
equipment that you will need to brew with you might already have, so
look around first before you go those expensive homebrew supply shops.
Essential
Equipment
Brewkettle
This is a 3
gallon enamel-coated or stainless-steel pot. Do not use aluminum.

Primary Fermenter
A 5 to 6 gallon
food-grade plastic bucket with a lid or a 5 to 6 gallon glass carboy.

Bottling Bucket
with Spigot
A 5 to 6 gallon
food-grade plastic bucket with a lid and a spigot hole drilled near
the bottom of the bucket to attach the spigot into.

Racking Tube
3/8 inch diameter
food-grade plastic tubing, 6 feet long. This is for siphoning
(racking) your liquids from one vessel to another.

Racking Cane
This is a clear 3
foot long hard plastic tube that is curved at one end. The racking
tube is fitted to the curved end of the cane when you are siphoning
your liquids.

Bottle Filler
This is a clear 1
foot long hard plastic tube that attaches to your racking tube and is
used to fill up your bottles.

Fermentation Lock
(aka Air Lock)
This handy little
device keeps your hooch from being invaded by outside air and all the
little nasties that exist in the air. This also allows your fermenting
hooch to release carbon dioxide.

Rubber Cork
The cork fits
onto your fermentation lock that fits your primary fermenter.

Bottles
You can use beer
bottles, wine bottles or champagne bottles. Don't use clear bottles
since light affects the taste of your hooch.

Bottle Capper or
Corker
Just use a basic
capper or corker for your bottles.

Bottle Caps or
Corks
You got to cap or
cork your bottles with something, right?!.

Long-Handled
Food-Grade Plastic Spoon
You got to mix
your hooch somehow.

Bottle Brush /
Carboy Brush
You have to clean
the bottles on the inside.

Unscented Bleach
This is used to
sanitize all of your equipment that is going to come in contact with
your hooch. Bleach will kill bacteria and wild yeast that can wreak
havoc with your hooch. Be sure to thoroughly rinse your equipment
until you can not detect the odor of bleach.

Bottle Filler
This is a long
clear hard plastic tube that allows you to fill bottles from the
bottom up.

Optional
Equipment
Hydrometer
This device
allows you to measure the sugar content in your hooch that gives you
the amount of alcohol that your hooch could possibly have.

Thermometer
This will allow
you to check the temperature of liquids when your are ready to add
yeast and such.

Bottle Washer
Another tool to
clean your bottles or carboys.

Funnel
Another tool to
clean your bottles or carboys.

Hop / Grain Bag
A handy mesh bag
for easy removal of hops or grains, use it like a tea bag.

Wort Chiller
This piece of
equipment is used to help cool your wort in a hurry.
