RBTT - GLEANER NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL CHESS FINALS
"The race is not for the swift, but for they who can endure.."
MEADOWBROOK, WIN RBTT HIGH SCHOOL CHESS FINALS Meadowbrook High School walked away with the RBTT/Gleaner National High Schools Chess Championship for the second straight year on Friday, on a tie break over Rural Champions Clarendon College. In the regular match, the finalists played to a 2-2 tie after Meadowbrook's Alain Morais on board 1 and Allan Wilson on board 4 defeated Cordinal Pryce and Recardo Wiles respectively while Clarendon College's D'Amour Bennett on Board 2 and Rohan Brown on Board 3 were victorious over Ramon Jackson and Shamari Smith. The Lightning Chess, best of six tie break that followed, saw Meadowbrook's Alain Morais outplaying Clarendon's D'Amour Bennett in the speed chess format, registering an emphatic 4-1 victory and in the process securing Meadowbrook's second hold on the Championship title. In addition to the RBTT first place trophy, Meadowbrook also copped the award for Zone 2 Champions and top board 1 player, Alain Morais. Clarendon in addition to their runner-up prize, also took home the top rural team trophy donated by the Gleaner's Youthlink Magazine and the award for top board 3 player in Rohan Brown. Third place in the tournament was shared between Ardenne High and Glenmuir High. Wolmer's Girl's Lydia Nelson won the award for top female player while Campion College Girls came out on top as the top girls team in the tournament. Board prizes went to Meadowbrook's Alain Morais for being top board 1 for the second straight year, Daryll Hew of Cornwall College as top board 2, Rohan Brown of Clarendon College as top board 3 and Dorrell McCalman of Cornwall College as top board 4. The best reserve prize went to Camperdown's Lynden Hall. END |
