MANNINGS LEAD IN ZONE 5,CORNWALL COLLEGE SECOND BUT WITH 2 EXTRA GAMES IN HAND

CORNWALL ZONE (ZONE 5) RESULTS AFTER FOUR ROUNDS

Round 1 and 2 Results played at Mannings High

Play in Zone 5 of the National High Schools Chess Championship began last Tuesday with four matches at Mannings High School. In the first round, Mannings High defeated Mannings Girls 4-0 and Cornwall College defeated a shaky Munro college by a similar scoreline.
In the second round, played on the same day, Mannings High defeated Munro College 4-0 and Cornwall defeated Mannings Girls 4-0. Cornwall College, however received a scare on board 3 When Mannings Girl chess player Marrisa Wilson almost defeated Cornwall College board 3, Radi Konstantinov. Cornwall College and Mannings Boys grabbed the early lead in the Zone with a perfect 8/8 each.

Round 3 and 4 Results played at Ruseas High

On Thursday, December 13, the Cornwall Zone 5 preliminary games in the National School boy chess championships continued with Round 3 and 4 being played at Ruseas High School.

In the 3rd round Ruseas blanked Mannings girls 4-0. However the board 3 for Mannings Girls, Marrisa Wilson, was again unlucky not to win as she had checkmate in two moves against Antonne Kerr of Ruseas, when her flag fell and Antonne claimed on time.

In the other 3rd round game, Mannings boys easily defeated newcomers St. James College 4-0

In Round 4, Manning's Boys defeated Ruseas High 3-1, with Ruseas board 1 player Kennio Bromfield pulling back one for Ruseas by defeating Mannings board 1 player, Rayon Muir. Kennio Bromfield was the star player for Ruseas High in last years tournament and only lost one match in the preliminaries last year.

In the other Round 4 encounter, Manning's Girls,who are entering the competition for the first time, finally redeemed themselves by blanking other newcomers St. James College 4-0.
