The Jamaica Chess Federation was founded in 1969 and has been affiliated to F.I.D.E., which is the world governing body for chess, since 1972. In its capacity as the Governing body for Chess in Jamaica, the JCF is devoted to extending the role of chess in the Jamaican society. It is therefore the Federations purpose, to continue to teach and promote the
game of chess,for its own sake as a sport and enjoyment, while encouraging and
organising sanctioned tournaments, so that players can benefit by improving
and playing their game in a safe, appealing and chess-friendly environment.
