WOLMER’S BOYS, AND MEADOWBROOK MAINTAIN LEAD IN SCHOOLS CHESS

Meadowbrook High and Wolmer’s Boys maintained top positions in their respective Zones, as the preliminary rounds of the UNION BANK/GLEANER National High Schools Chess Championship continued last week.

KINGSTON ZONE (ZONE 1) RESULTS AFTER ROUND 3

In Zone 1 action at KC on Thursday, Wolmer’s Boys turned back STATHS 3-1, KC edged St. Georges College 2.5-1.5 and Camperdown surprised Charlie Smith 3-1.

Play continues this Thursday in Zone 1 with KC up against Charlie Smith, Wolmer’s Girls will take on STATHS and St. Georges College will battle Camperdown.

ST. ANDREW ZONE (ZONE 2) RESULTS AFTER ROUND 3

In Zone 2 action at Campion College on Friday, the top of the table clash saw Meadowbrook trouncing Campion 3.5-0.5, Calabar High and Ardenne both scored 4-0 victories over Merle Grove and Meadowbrook Girls, while Campion Girls defeated St. Hughs 3-1.

Play in Zone 2 continues this Friday with Meadowbrook High facing Merl Grove, Calabar up against Campion, St. Hugh’s will take on Meadowbrook Girls and Ardenne will take on Campion Girls.

Play in Zone 4 begins on Wednesday at Glenmuir High School with four matches. At 10 am, Clarendon College will be up against Glenmuir High and St. Catherine High will battle Dinthill. At 1 pm, Glenmuir will face St. Catherine High while St. Jago squares off Clarendon College.
