RBTT - GLEANER NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL CHESS QUARTER FINALS
(MATCH REPORT FOR THE WEEK OF DECEMBER February 11, 2002)

MEADOWBROOK, ARDENNE ADVANCE TO RBTT HIGH SCHOOL CHESS SEMIS

Cornwall College sadly bowed out of the National High School Quarter Finals after losing to Ardenne 3-1.

After Cornwall Won on board 2 and 4 and lost on board 3 Cornwall College were leading 2-1 with one game to go. Vivek Sablani of Cornwall College, who was a whole rook up and needing only a draw to send Cornwall into the semis threw away his big advantage and ended up losing to leave the match tied at 2-2.

In the best of Six blitz playoff, Brandon Wilson of Ardenne narrowly defeated Dorrell Macalman of Cornwall by 4-2 to carry the young Ardenne side into the semi finals for the first time in many years.

DEFENDING CHAMPS MEADOWBROOK BLAST INTO THE RBTT SEMIS

In the second Match Meadowbrook lived up to their title as defending champions and easily defeated Mannings High 4-0. They were never in danger of losing on any of the boards. Meadowbrook was represented by Alain Morais, Ramon Jackson, Shamari Smith and Allan Wilson on Boards 1-4 respectively.

The players for Mannings were Rayon Muir, Marc James, Gregory Bromfield and Lawrence Philips respectively.

With these victories Two Corporate area teams now take up the first 2 semi final slots, and it now remains up to Glenmuir and Clarendon College to save face for the Rural Schools when they face of against KC and Wolmers respectively, Next week Saturday.
