Target Groups & Programs
�Target groups� is the official phrase that Hillel uses to describe the group of students who you are hoping to engage.  Target groups can include any one of many groups on campus, but looking at it as a group helps you systematically realize any trends with this group, ways you can reach them, or things that they might like. 

The Jewish Encounter in Programs:
To what extent you incorporate Judaism is going to differ depending on what group you are working with and the atmosphere of the encounter.  For instance, one student you might be targeting might have a long history of Jewish studying, so you might appeal to her through the text study classes.  Others might not know what the ha�motzi is and you�re job will be to explain that it�s the blessing over the bread perhaps when you are saying it at a retreat.  Other

times, your encounter with a women student might be to direct them to resources about what Judaism says about women.  It�s going to differ with each encounter, but in general, you want to walk away feeling like it was a Jewish encounter, the follow-up has the potential to lead to a Jewish encounter, while also not making it feel overwhelming for the engagement student.  It�s a hard balance, but after a while, it becomes natural.
