Engagement
Engagement and empowerment are the two words that are used to describe the types of students you will work with.  You will learn that students might not fit either one of these categories.  In general, engagement students are the ones towards whom you will focus your energy and your programs: these are the students who do not have an affinity towards Jewish life on campus.  Empowerment students, on the other hand, include student leaders and others who are very involved in Jewish life on campus.

Tracking:
Its not enough to engage the students, but you must also track their progress to see if what you are doing is working.  This means keeping track of the students contact info, and perhaps where/how you met them, what your first interaction was like, their interests, potential ways to follow-up with them, the date of your last interaction with them, perhaps what they look like.  I keep a running excel file of this information and then every once in a while I go to the date of last contact column and then contact the people with whom I have not spoken in a while. I often try to take them out to coffee or try and invite them to a program, or have someone else invite them somewhere.  Its hard to find out what system works for you, but its important to do it from the beginning, because it can be an incredibly helpful tool.
