Getting to Know Campus
UCSB is a beautiful campus.  Most of the students do not live on campus, and of the students who do, most are freshmen.  The rest of the students live in the surrounding towns, with a lot of undergraduate students living in Isla Vista, or IV, the small town neighboring campus.  The academic buildings are evenly spread out over campus, and the heart of student life on campus is centered around the University Center, or UCen.  UCen has several places to eat, a coffee shop, a jamba juice, the bookstore and plenty of places to sit, hang out, or study.

Residential areas on campus:
I did a good amount of programming in the residence halls, as freshmen were one of my target groups and thats where the majority of them live.  The different halls can be clumped into several clusters:
1.  the one on the edge of campus, near Goleta Beach, which has Anacapa, Santa Rosa, and Santa Cruz;
2.  the cluster right across the street from that near the UCen, which has San Nic and San Miguel
3.  the cluster right along the beach, which has Manzanita Village and San Raf
4.  Francisco Torres (FT): These are towers that are located farther from campus, near Storke Road.
5.  Trop, Fountaineblue: These are two areas that are university-affiliated, and both are right up the street from Hillel in Isla Vista.

Take a Tour:
When you arrive on campus, I suggest taking a tour before the students arrive.  Although you still wont know your way around after it, it does help you get acquainted.  It might also be a good idea to have students or another Hillel staff member show you on a tour, because it helps to know what areas are good for tabling or programs, etc. that relate to your job.
