GETTING A LIFE

Downtown

Goleta/IV

LA
Goleta/IV
This is a less expensive place to live compared to downtown, but its more residential.  This is where I live.  Goleta is sort of inbetween downtown and Isla Vista, but also extends past Isla Vista, more north on the freeway (the 101).  Calle Real is a great place to do one-stop-shopping and stuff, as it has gas stations, dry cleaners, Trader Joes, Albertsons, coffee shops, restaurants, nail salons, Michaels and much more!  The other place to go is Camino Real, up near Costco on Storke Road.  In this shopping center, youll find Home Depot, Linens -n- Things, a movie theatre, Chiles, McDonalds, Hallmark, and much more!  Each year, Goleta also hosts a Lemon Festival-its fun, and full of lemony and yellow stuff!  Check out Goletas Chamber of Commerce to find out more about the area.

Isla Vista (IV) is the college town right next to the university.  I would not recommend living here as a fellow, because not only will you run into a lot of students (this is not a bad thing, but sometimes its good to have a life separate from your job), but also since Hillel is located in IV, its good to be able to get away from work.  IV has some fine college cuisine-Freeb!rds (Mexican), Woodstocks (pizza), Silvergreens (salads, sandwiches, pasta), Blenders, Bagel Cafe, Java Jones (coffee shop) and of course-the Study Hall, the IV bar!  Youll also find other places, but since IV is so small, you could probably walk all around it and see everything quicker than I can type it here!
