Jews & Java
This is a weekly program at a coffee shop on campus where people can swing by for free coffee and hang out with other Jews.  The goal was to create an atmosphere where Jewish students meet others in a non-religious or intimidating way.  While half of the students who come are engagement students, I do need to make a stronger effort to encourage students to stay once they get their coffee and schmooze with other students.

Yoga with a Jewish Twist
This was a series that was follow-up to all of the great feedback I received from the previous ladies yoga night event.  I found a Jewish yoga instructor based in LA who agreed to come up to Santa Barbara to lead us in three different yoga practices, one time each month for three months.  The first session related our bodies to temples.  The second one allowed us to explore the different active poses of yoga and how they related to the days of the week.  This was in contrast to the passive poses of yoga which we related to Shabbat.  Finally, the last session was Alef-Bet Yoga, where our bodies took on the different feelings that letters of the Hebrew alphabet have.  About 50 students came in all.  This was co-sponsored with AEPhi and the Jewish Womens Group and was funded by a Kolker-Saxon-Hallock Family Foundation Engagement Grant.

Vocal Ensemble:
Although this wasnt exactly a target group of mine, I did help get the ball rolling to start it again and although we didnt get any men who were interested this year, it could be a great engagement tool for those who love to sing, and want to meet other Jewish students.  In fact, one of the students who became part of the group wasnt involved in anything previously.  The key is to start early in the year and designate a time with Michael Sokol, who works in the Music Department at UCSB.  He volunteered to direct the group this year, and hopefully, hell be kind enough to do it again!  I would recommend designating certain Shabbats to sing at, or performances on campus, in the community, etc.  Eli is the contact person for this group.
