Here I am in Oklahoma, visiting a friend in Altus. Was planning on visiting Ft Sill and Tinker AFB too but the bad back of mine couldn't handle a long car ride up north. Decided that i'll go up at a later date (which I didnt). Small itsy bitsy teeny weeny little town called Altus. Nothing spectacular about the place, even base housing is sub-standard. This is a town where everyone seems to know something about everyone.
ALTUS
Here's where i alighted from the bus at 0300 in the morning. I was stuck there for about 7 hours or so before my chauffeur came to pick me up. What sucks is that at 0300 nowhere is opened. The casino across the street (Fort Sill Apache Casino) was closed and so was the convenience store. I had to use the toilets but the bus station was closed as well. As a last resort, I had to ippity and hoppity across the field and use the bushes behind the station. I got bit in the butt from some insect though. Thankfully it was dark and no one was around. But when I went back to the front of the station, there was a guy in Class As. He was on his way to TX. Next duty was Ft Hood if I wasnt mistaken. We talked a while and he bought us chips and soda which we munched on till daybreak. It was a quiet place and somehow i felt safe being on my own at 5 am in the morning with another Army guy. Second time i was there, it was very cold and there was snow on the ground. I had fun walking around there and freezing my butt out. This time there was another guy stuck at the station. He got snowed in and found a car to hibernate in while I stood out there. He came from North Dakota and I think was in the National Guard. He was posted to Ft Sill. But wanted to go home to North Dakota and beg his recruiter that he wants to stay there and be with family than live in Oklahoma.
LAWTON
Golly! Nice place! Went shopping and all and got myself an outrageously skimpy Tigger jammie set. LOL. Fond out that my free GAP Gift Card was worth nothing at all. Bummer. That stinks! Saw my favorite calendar on sale at some store for $12.95. I'd wait till New Year's Day and i could get it for half price. Hehehe. This is also the place where the fatal bombing of the federal building occurred. I didnt get to see the exact location as the chauffeur was in a hurry to get home.
OKLAHOMA CITY
Drove by Fort Sill. Didn't see what really was in there but it looked really interesting. Chauffeur said that it was a shitty place and stuff like that. He had a biased opinion anyway. After all, he's Air Force. Them boys in blue don?t know a thing about Army firepower. Haha. FORT SILL
