The only place in Indonesia i've been to is Batam Island. Took a ferry from some pier in Singapore (Finger Pier perhaps?) and sailed there. It's a small island with rather muddy roads. Not much of the island has asphalt roads. It has resorts and all but eveything doesn't look too spectacular. Things were expensive to me. A toothbrush is about 1500Rp (however the currency is spelled) and before i knew what currency conversion was, i thought it was about 15.00 dollars! I was just 10 or 11 years of age. I looked bitty nerdy and all and was going through puberty. Zits and all that stuff starts growing and was about this time when i realized that something was growing on the chest and men were starting to stare right over there. Mom decided it was time for a bra. I was growing up too quickly.  Well, anyway, it was raining lots and most of the islanders were poor and were dressed poorly. Didn't realize then how blessed i was to wear nice looking clothes (though i had no idea why i was that much of a fashion disaster. i got myself a dark yellow shirt and skirt to wear around). Thinking back, i must have looked awful there and then.  Beaches were okay, a nice getaway, food was somewhat good, especially at the beach resorts. No comments about the kinda food they have at the local coffeeshops. It was an unhygenic place.
