In 1709, Philip accompanied his mother and his younger brothers and sisters to St. Katharine's in London, England to escape the persecutions of Huguenots in Europe. It is believed that they came to New York, NY on board the ship Lyon on 13/14 June 1710. They apparently stayed for sometime at New Paltz, NY before moving on to Germantown, PA and then to Lancaster Co., PA. Philip then returned to New Paltz to work for the wealthy farmer, Abraham DuBOIS, and married his daughter. Philip and his new wife then returned to Lancaster Co. where they secured land from his father-in-law. Philip is reputed to be the first of the FERREE gunsmiths. He was buried in Carpenter's Graveyard, Paradise Township, Lancaster Co.
