Barnabas is reputed to have been born on Gowick Island (possibly County Wicklow?), Ireland and to have had two brothers and two sisters. He is believed to have come to America about 1790 with Thomas McGinley and shortly thereafter married Anna Marie FERREE, whose family reportedly disowned her for marrying a Catholic. Barnabas appears to have died suddenly and apparently unexpectedly. He was buried in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Emmittsburg, Frederick Co., MD.

Intriguing sidelight - there is a Barnabas O'REILEY recorded in the church records of the Conewago Catholic Church (the area where our Barnabas lived) as having died in 1791. Could this have been his father?
