In 1649 this Huguenot farmer's family was living in or near Canterbury, England. Matthew, his wife, and the younger children sailed from the Netherlands on 26 April 1660 to New Amsterdam on board the ship Der Verguige Otter (The Golden Otter). They lived in what was to become Ulster Co., NY.
