Championship Game MVPs Jerome Guanlao & Kevin Ladia, Team VA |
It's only right, that after a total team effort, that teammates share the title game MVP. Jerome effectively penetrated the lane, got some boards, played heads up D, hit some big threes, and was ice from the foul line, finishing with 14 pts, 3 threes, and 3/3 FTs. Kevin played another big game when it mattered. He was a much needed interior presence for VA against Maymar's big bodies. He scored 14 pts, including 1 three and 3/4 FTs. |

16 December 2002 I'm glad I didn't make any playoff predictions this year. I woulda been dead wrong. Congratulations to the 2002 NAABL Champions: TEAM VA. With an excellent balance of veteran experience and youth, these guys put on a great show by outhustling and outplaying every team in the playoffs. They also were a great example by demonstrating good sportsmanship all-season long. By no means was the road easy. Team VA's playoff run started in Week 7, when they defeated the Mavericks by 2 points in a do-or-die game to clinch the last playoff spot. In the semifinals, Team VA, the best defensive team in the league, outscored the best offensive team in the league, the Wolfpack. They also avenged a Week 2 loss to Maymar in the Championship Game. Maymar was bigger and stronger but Team VA was clicking on all cylinders, playing as a TEAM in every aspect of the game. They held onto the win after a furious Maymar comeback. Big up to Team VA for sticking to their guns when their season was looking bleak. At one point they were 2-3 and in danger of not making the playoffs. From that point they won 4 games in a row, the last two being the games which earned them the 2nd Annual NAABL Championship. Good job guys. I never doubted you... kinda. And mad props to Ryan Driggers the only repeat champ in the NAABL (Passions '01). The man is a good leader and seems to play toughest when it matters. And with that exciting title run, another NAABL season has come to an end. Dry your tears, though. The NAABL is already planning new and exciting events to appease your basketball appetite in the offsesason. 3-on-3 tournaments, weekend-long tournaments, and a Pee-Wee league are some things we are looking into. In the long-run, with more support (dough) from local businesses, we hope to have basketball camps for kids and field trips to NBA or college games so kids can see how the big ballers do it. So please stay tuned to this web page. We will update when new things come up. Also, use the guest book to inform us of new things going on in the basketball community, or otherwise. We always wanna know how everyone is doing or what's going on, like what tournaments are going on, high school games featuring NAABL kids, where the pick up games are at, or where the party at. So keep in touch. The NAABL cares. Thanks to all for a VERY, VERY SUCCESSFUL year... a list too big to put here, but check out the Director's Year in Review, coming soon as always. Also check out the Season Superlatives, coming up. Happy Holidays and see yall at the gym. Ferd Dimaiwat, League Director |
