09 December 2002 The regular season ended in exciting fashion last Sunday with all the teams giving the Week 7 spectators in attendance a generous dose of what the postseason will be like. There was definitely a postseason atmosphere as all the teams and players continued to improve. Evidence of overall team and player improvement can be summarized by these facts: * 61 of the 76 players, who suited up to play on Sunday, scored at least a point for their team. Which means team bench play is stepping up. *ALL the teams scored at least 50 points on Sunday, except for the Raptors' 45. The teams in the NAABL which contended during the season averaged AT LEAST 50 points a game. Teams which were out of contention GAVE UP over 50 points a game. *There haven't been any EBs (embarrassing blowouts=losses of 20 points or more) since Week 3. Last year their were 9 EBs. This year just 4 EBs -- 3 of which came in Week 1. And besides all that, the body language of the players is more confident and teams go into the games knowing they have a chance to walk away with the win. Teams don't enter games expecting to lose anymore. Yeah, that may sound funny but not too long ago teams would go into a matchup knowing they were going to get crushed. Now any team can walk away with a W on any given day. Mad props go out to all the players and teams. But we still have another week to go and things will only get better. Where should I start? With Maymar's victory over the Raptors, there is a three-way tie atop the NAABL standings between Maymar, Raptors, and the Wolfpack, all 6-1. The Wolfpack assume the #1 seed in the playoffs by virtue of point differential. They will face #4 Team VA in a matchup which resembles something straight out of Fil-am. Team VA made the playoffs by 2 slim points as they sent a very deserving team packing. Speaking of the Mavericks, they will try to unleash some consolation game frustration on #6 Dope Squad. But Dope Squad has plans of their own, attempting to finish the season off strong with a big upset of the Mavs. Getting out of the cellar can be great motivation as the Lightning have one more shot at getting a win as they face off against a Sharks team that has been playing well since their 40 point loss to the Mavs in Week 3. Oh. I almost forgot. After a grueling Week 7 matchup which was anticipated all season long, #3 Raptors and #2 Maymar will square off again for the second week in a row. These two teams gave a lesson in team defense, rebounding, boxing out, and battling for position down low last Sunday, as bodies and curses flew all over the place. Expect much of the same in the playoffs. Of course, everything is all in fun and tough play doesn't mean you have to act like a tough guy after the game is over. Just leave it on the court fellas. Don't ruin a good game with bad sportsmanship. Thanks to everyone who supports the league by checking out this site. This site is a huge part of what makes the league unique and fun. And though it doesn't seem like it sometimes, we try very hard to get the most up-to-date stats and recaps on. We also do what we can to make it aesthetically pleasing by using cheap graphics, but also check out some pictures we took during the year. It is also a work in progress but it's all good. We are also working on doing some profiles of some players who helped make the year not only exciting, but diverse and fun. As always, if anyone has any questions, comments, concerns, compliments, or sugestions contact us at our new email address, [email protected] or sign the guestbook at the bottom. Good luck to all the teams. See you at the gym.

TEAM STATISTICS
GAME 1: Wolfpack Sharks
GAME LEADERS Wolfpack (6-1)) Points: 13- Jay Gundran 3-Pts: 2- A. Sanderson, C. Zaporteza FTs: 5/5 (100%)- Joe Flores Sharks (1-6) Points: 20- Lee Harrelson 3-Pts: 4- Lee Harrelson FTs: 1/1 (100%)- Dennis Limpin
The Sharks gave the top-seeded Wolfpack a run for their money but came up just short. The 1-6 Sharks played tough the whole game, actually entering halftime tied up at 36-36. Lee Harrelson had a big game scoring 20 pts, 4 threes. Sharks' Dennis Limpin was ballin too, scoring 14 pts, 1 three, 1/1 FTs. But with 6 players scoring 8+ pts, the Pack had too much firepower. The Wolfpack big men led the attack with Jay Gundran scoring 13 and Joe Flores scoring 11, 5/5 FTs. Their backcourt also played big with Andy Sanderson scoring 10 pts, 2 threes, Ron Gozum scoring 9 pts, 1 three, and Jun Madera also scoring 9 pts, with a three. The Sharks played til the end but fell just short.
GAME 2: Mavericks Team VA
GAME LEADERS Mavericks (3-4) Points: 19- Joe Burgess 3-Pts: 2- Jody Lowe FTs: 4/4 (100.0%)- Jody Lowe Team VA (4-3) Points: 16- Ryan Driggers 3-Pts: 1- JP Alarcon, J. Guanlao FTs: 3/4 (75.0%)- Mikey Sinchongco
Team VA outplayed Mavs in the two teams most important game of the season so far. Team VA displayed their all-around team game which has brought them success all season. 9 of their 11 players scored with Ryan Driggers leading the charge with 16 pts 2/4 FTs. Youngins Mikey Sinchongco and Kevin Ladia continue to play well chipping in 9 pts apiece. Mavs' Joe Burgess played tough as always scoring 19 pts. And with Anthony Gaviola (13 ppg) having a bad day (4 pts, 0/2 FTS), Jody Lowe picked up some of the Mavs offensive slack, scoring 12 pts, 4/4 FTs, 2 threes. But Team VA's quickness on offense and defense was the killer. With 3 mins left and the Mavs ahead 53-50 off a Rich Corpus three. Team VA turned up the defensive pressure, allowing just 3 Mavs points the rest of the way. The Mavs had opportunities but just couldn't hit.
GAME 3: Lightning Dope Squad
GAME LEADERS Lightning (0-7) Points: 15- Jeff Egnot 3-Pts: 3- Jeff Egnot FTs: 2/2 (100%)- J. Egnot, T. Eusebio Dope Squad (2-5) Points: 12- Rob Corsino 3-Pts: 1- R. Corsino, M. Lipumano, J. Malpaya FTs: 4/6 (66.7%)- Jose Malpaya
Dope Squad displayed their all-around team game with all their players putting points up against the Lightning. Rob Corsino led the attack in the first half scoring 10 first half pts (12 for the game). Jazz Zapata (10 pts) and Ray Sinchongco also contributed 6 pts apiece in the half. But the Lightning also played tough, entering the half tied at 25-25. But the second half is when the Dope Squad guards got hot. Emmanuel Arcena (8 pts) and Jose Malpaya (9 pts, 1 three, 4/6 FTs) scored all their pts in the second half. The Lightning didn't go down easy, though. Jeff Egnot was strokin from outside hittin 15 pts, 3 threes, 2/2 FTs. And Gene Flores played big with 11 pts. But Dope Squad was clicking on all cylinders and earned their second win of the year.
GAME 4: Raptors Maymar
GAME LEADERS Raptors (6-1) Points: 16- Mel Right 3-Pts: 3- Mel Right FTs: 1/2 (50.0%)- C. Morris, M. Right Maymar (6-1) Points: 12- Joy Arenas 3-Pts: 1- N. Torres, M. Marasigan FTs: 4/6 (66.7%)-Jeff Grice
The Raptors and Maymar gave the league a lesson in tough play. These two teams fought for position down low, boxed out hard, and played hard-nosed defense all game. My type of ball. Maymar got off to an early 10 pt lead, but after a timeout, the Raps got their act together and limped into halftime with a 28-21 lead. That's when Maymar went on a defensive stand, starting the second half by not allowing the Raps to score for the first 8 minutes of the half. By the time the Raptors started putting points on the board, Maymar was in the lead and keeping it by hitting clutch jumpers. Maymar's Joy Arenas put the team on his shoulders playing big and scoring 12 pts. Nick Torres also chipped in 11 and Jesse Trinidad scored all of his 9 pts in the second half. Mel Right played tough as usual (16 pts, 3 threes, 1/2 FTs) and Dave Erichetto did what he could (10 pts, all in first half), but the Raps seemed to give it away in the closiing minutes. After the tight game, Mel Right wanted us to relay this message to Maymar's Joy Arenas: "#10 played a beautiful game. But don't talk (beep) to the wrong person. I let you go to the rim." HELLO.... just keep it clean fellas.
