Revolutionary Girl Utena review.
Utena Tenjou was just an ordinary junior high student. She went to Ohtori Academy, where she got good grades, had many friends, and also had many boys looking at her wherever she went. However, instead of wanting the typical girl role of a damsel in distress, she had the ambition to be a prince, much like the one that came to her when her parents died. The prince had wrapped her in a rose-scented embrace, and gave her a ring with a rose crest on it. He said that the ring would lead her to him again, one day, and that she should never lose her strength and nobility. She was so impressed, that she vowed to become a prince, and save small princesses who were sad, just like her prince had done. In 8th grade, Utena had still not lost her strength or nobility, just as her prince had instructed. And she even got the chance to save a princess, a girl named Anthy Himemia, also known as the Rose Bride, by dueling with the man who was engaged to the Bride. By doing this, Utena finds herself mixed up in the Student Councils Duels. These Duels can determine the one person who can bring revolution to the world, and who will have the Rose Bride. Whoever wins the duel will then be engaged to the Rose Bride, and will possess the Sword of Dios, which, in the right hands, will bring the World Revolution.
Sound confusing? It is, actually. However, it is also a fantastic series about love, honor, and what lengths true friends go to for one another. Okay, so Ive only seen the first 4 episodes and read the first 3 manga, but still. Revolutionary Girl Utena is amazing. The animation may not be the best, and every other word is Rose, but its great. Overall, I would give Revolutionary Girl Utena a 95% A. This series is not for anyone under 13 due to all the fighting, and the fact hat Touga hits on anything that moves and looks good in a dress.
