Outlaw Star review.
Outlaw Star was absolutely amazing. The plot was funny and just plain fun. The music was beautiful, and both did and did not suit the series. The very up-beat opening theme was perfect for the anime, but the two end themes were not. However, all the music was still great. This was not an anime that I was turned onto by the theme songs, though. I saw the preview for Outlaw Star and immediately thought it was worth my time. One minute into the first episode and I was hooked. The characters are wonderfully animated, and though the colors are dark, there is a sense of joy in most of the characters. The main character, Gene Starwind, is a young man that loves parties, drinking, and girls. Gene and his business partner, 11-year-old Jim Hawking, a real computer genius, are constantly broke, and their business, Starwind and Hawking, promises to fix anything, from trucks to relationships. However, lack of money (and Genes liking for hot girls) brings them to do bodyguard work for a woman named Rachel. Rachel brings the boys on a wild car race to an old warehouse, where she revives a cute female Bio-android named Melfina. Rachel then explains that her real name is Hilda, and she is on the run from the Kay Pirates, space pirates with powerful psychic magic. Hilda brings Gene and Jim onto a ship that she has stolen called the Outlaw Star, and the adventure begins. Melfina is the only key to running the Outlaw Star. The series continues with Genes adventures in space, and is a comedic look at what the world may be facing in coming generations.
Outlaw Star is much like Gundam Wing in the sense that both have violent scenes and situations. However, they are completely different in plot. Outlaw tar is definitely worth a look to anyone who is over 13. This anime earns a 95% A. Once again, I recommend this series to anyone who likes sci-fi anime and is over 13, due to nudity, language, and violent scenes.
