CHAPTER 5.

I sat up. Cold sweat soaked every inch of my body. Even in places I didnt know I had sweat glands. My hair, in front of my eyes, as always, was drenched. Glancing over at my alarm clock, I realize that it is about 2:45 AM. I tried to calm myself down, but it was no use. What was that? I asked myself. That was too weird for words.
Knock, knock, knock.
Come in. I said, suddenly composing myself.
You okay, Xiao Lang? It was Fanren. She entered my room with a very worried look. I heard you screaming.
Im okay. I lied. Weird dream, thats all. I tried to wipe the sweat from my forehead without her noticing, so she would believe me, but Ive learned something these past 15 years: you can never fool a girl. Especially your sister.
Right. So, what was your dream about? You know how dangerous dreams can be. They may not harm you physically, but dreams often repeat themselves in everyday life.
Well, I dreamt that Sakura and I were fighting this thing and itkilledher. I suddenly realize that tears are streaming down my face at the thought of Sakuras lifeless body, scattered around like she was a rag doll a dog that gotten a hold on her.
There there, Xiao Lang. Fanren sat down on my bed and hugged me. Im sure it was just a nightmare. Even those with magic still have those on occasion. She gave me a sweet smile and left.
Just a nightmare
Thanks, Fanren. I smiled, hugging her back. I always knew I kept you here for something.
Get some sleep, Little One. Fanren stood up and left. She poked her head into the room one last time. And hope that that dream doesnt come true.
I kind of figured that, Fanren.

Morning was a lot better than the night before. The dream seemed more like a distant memory, and I had no belief whatsoever that it would come true.
Ohayo gozaimasu, Sakura-Chan. I said, walking up to her.
Ohayo, Syaoran-Kun. She looked worried.
Daijoubu desu ka?
Hai She faked a smile. I just had a strange dream last night.
About what? I asked, hoping that it wasnt what I was thinking.
Well, we were talking, and I sensed an evil presence, and then we were attacked by this thing. You got hit by a beam of black energy and died. Your body parts were flying all around me. Then this man starts laughing and tells me that Im weak. I release the Sword Card and then try to attack him, but he dodges and says that Im too weak to even read minds. I attack again and he disappears. Next thing I know, Im in my bed, screaming and sweaty.
Too creepy. I shook my head, which sent my insane bangs flying all over my face. I had a dream that was almost identical. Only you died and I charged him with my sword. After I woke up, Fanren came into my room and told me that it was just a nightmare, but I have my doubts, now. I mean, is it possible that we had those dreams at the exact same time? When did you wake up?
At about 2:45 this morning. I barely got back to sleep.
Same here. I admitted. Something is seriously wrong here.
Syaoran, what happens if you die in a dream? Sakura asked, looking scared. I hugged her tightly.
Something that I dont want to think about would be my guess.
You mean?
Yes. I think that if you die in a dream, you die in the physical world, too.
HOEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
Syaoran-Sama, Sakura-Sama, breakfast is ready.
Thank you, Wei-San. I nodded. Think some food would help calm you down?
Its worth a try. Sakura said. She sobbed and I saw that she was crying. I wiped her tears away and led her to the dining room.
Oh, theres the oh-so-KAWAII couple! Feimei cried as Sakura and I entered the room.
For a minute there, I thought Tomoyo had come with you. I smiled at Sakura and sat down next to her.
She giggled. Syaoran-Kun!
Im serious! I cant stand it whenever she yells that word!
What word?
You know, the K word. I pressed, not wanting to say it myself, for the fact that my sisters would call me a hypocrite.
Kakkoii? Sakura asked, totally confused.
No. The one Tomoyo always says. Her way of describing you in one word.
Kawaii?
Yes.
Oh. It gets on my nerves, too. Just please, dont tell her that. O-Negai, Syaoran-Kun?
I wont. Your secret is safe with me. I took hold of her hands without realizing it. My sisters did, however.
KAWAII!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Screeched four high voices at once. My ears rang after they finished.
Dont do that! I yelled, turning to face my siblings. Girls! I thought bitterly. Im glad I cant understand them! If I did, I wouldnt want to!
What is all the screaming about?
I dropped Sakuras hands and stood perfectly still and straight as my mother entered the room.
Nothing, Mother! Her five children said together.
Nothing, Mrs. Li. Sakura said quietly.
Please, dear, you may call me Yelan. Mother said, touching Sakuras face. Mother bent down onto one knee and brought her eyes level with the emerald ones of the girl I loved. She smiled. You are, after all, our guest, and you are very special, Mistress of the Clow Cards.
Sakura blushed. Well, actually, they arent exactly Clow Cards anymore. Of course, the Cards could not draw power from Clow Reed forever, and so they needed someone else to get power from. Since Yue named me the Card Mistress, it made sense that I should be that person. So, I had to transform all of the Clow Cards so that they drew power from me, and not Clow-San. Syaoran-Kun was there the entire time, so you could ask him.
I smiled. She was babbling quickly, so it got hard to understand her, as it did from time to time. She added that last sentence to make sure everyone understood her. Not only that, but she only knew Japanese, and I was the only one that was very good at both Japanese and Chinese.
I believe you. After breakfast, may I please see your Cards? Mother said with a slight smile spreading across her face.
Hai! Sakura nodded.
Mother, can we eat now? Futtie asked, getting impatient.
Yes. Mother stood up and sat down at the table. I sat back down next to Sakura and the food was brought in.

As I crawled into bed at nearly 3 AM, I remembered the dream I had had the night before. Please, I thought. Please let that just have been a dream! And let Sakuras same dream just be a coincidence! Of course, I knew that there were no coincidences. Every time something strange happened in this house, those words would always be repeated, because it was true, and it was first said by Clow Reed.
I drifted to sleep soon after and for a while; I saw nothing but darkness in my dreams. Then, a picture began to appear in my mind. It was the same dream as before.

~*~*~*~*~ SYAORANS DREAM~*~*~*~*~

Syaoran-Kun. That presence is back. Sakura shivers as she moves closer to me. Im scared.
I know. Its alright to be scared. I said, trying to calm her down.
But what if you die again? Sakura asked, looking into my eyes with her brilliant emerald ones.
Nani? Oh, man! Were in the same dream! KUSO! I screamed.
Syaoran-Kun! Stop swearing!
Gomen ne, Sakura-Chan. I lowered my head to make it easier to reach when she tried to hit me.
Whap!
ITAI!
BAM!
Not again! Sakura cried, Syaoran-Kun! Please dont die!
Same to you. I pull her into what very well could be our last hug. I cant stand to lose you!
How very sweet, Xiao Lang. The man that had killed Sakura appeared again. But now, its time to say goodbye to your little girlfriend. A sphere of blue-white light appeared in his hand. I swallowed hard and looked at Sakura

Syaoran: No, but ano Youre going to kill her!
Maybe, maybe not. It depends.
Syaoran: On what?

Syaoran: Not only that, but you stole my name and used it as a penname!
