Recommendation and models information

Recommendations  

The use of a common computer software tool is highly recommendable for several reasons. It helps systematise the data, it performs the somewhat tedious calculation results, and perhaps most importantly it can help to build up a company specific database with LCA data, as well as provide data on electricity consumption and transportation etc.  Sauer-Danfoss needs to perform more studies on some parameters and areas, which may significantly affect Sauer-Danfoss both economically and ecologically.

1)            Manufacturing waste quantity reduction can extend the study. How can 35.34% of the manufacturing waste be reused?

2)            The study can be extended to steel quality-recycling technology. The steel quality can be stamped on each part of the hydraulic motor, which can be aggregated in the shredder plant. It will improve Sauer-Danfoss’ economy and resource consumptions.

3)            Sauer-Danfoss needs to extend studies on used ancillary substances, which may disclose significant impact profiles from the manufacturing stage. Some of the oils evaporate during manufacturing, which affect the working environment. It should be noted that the eco-toxicity from the substances is calculated in the present LCA, which is found to be a significant potential in the product system. It is expected that the ancillary substances also contribute significantly to the human toxicity impact potentials category.        

4)            Further study can be extended to wastewater emissions throughout the ancillary substances emissions and heavy metals washed out through the processed water.

5)            As found in the LCA, the hydraulic motor efficiency is one of the most important parameters, which affects all significant impact categories. Sauer-Danfoss needs to extend more studies on the various parts, which reduce the efficiency of the hydraulic motor. Such as replacing material quality and internal technology.

6)            The carbonating and hardening processes are one of the critical processes. Sauer-Danfoss needs to map out the processes. It is expected that the eco-system technology can be adapted for other parts of the company. The idea behind this is that the thousands of litres of hot water processed everyday can be used for room heating and other internal use. By extending study in this area, it may improve Sauer-Danfoss’ economy and environment profile.

7)            The electricity consumption in Sauer-Danfoss seems to be very high compared to the raw materials production. Study can be extended on the electricity parameter, which may improve the present LCA impact profile significantly and at the same time it will improve the Sauer-Danfoss’ economy. For example, by improving 10% of the electricity consumption one piece of OMV/W-800 will save 7.188 kWh in electricity consumption, which presently costs 4.456 Kr/piece.

8)            Sauer-Danfoss needs to improve the management system in the company. The employees are not strictly following decisions and actions.   

Finally, Sauer-Danfoss need to improve the efficiency of the hydraulic product system. Detailed studies on factors that are the cause of the efficiency reduction, improve the product system significantly.                      

  

MECEEO model User Guide:

The model is recorded in the CD Rom (attached to the report.) Please follow these directions:

¨        Insert CD Rom into the CD Rom Drive.

¨        Click on my computer folder or Windows Explorer.

¨        Browse CD-Rom and Double click on MECEEO folder.

¨        Double click on index.htm file.

¨        The web page will open; proceed to click on MECEEO Model.

¨        The model will appear on the screen, Click on EVALUATE in order to evaluate default   Product (OMV/W-800 hydraulic motor).

¨        Change optional data by highlighting the default value and typing new entries into the column.

¨        Press EVALUATE bottom again to estimate the changed model values.

 

How to estimate others hydraulic motors (TMT, OMT etc):

¨        Find material percentage in the product and change optional values in the materials columns in the model.  

Note: It should be noted that the model does not support “zero” value in the optional data. Please check documentation with CD-Rom for upgraded information.  

 

Hydraulic book installation Guide:

The hydraulic book software is recorded in the CD Rom and attached to the report. Please follow these directions:

¨             Insert CD Rom into the CD Rom Drive.

¨             Click on my computer folder or Windows Explorer.

¨             Browse CD-Rom and Double click on HYDRAULIC BOOB folder.

¨             Double click on hydraulic.exe file.

¨             Follow the software installation instructions. 

¨             Small icon will appear in the Desktop on your computer screen. Double click on icon and program will run and then follow screen instructions.

 

Note: The hydraulic book is incomplete as yet. It will be developed later. The original capability will be attached with CD Rom. Please chick CD-Rom for upgraded information and read about its capability and user guide in detail.
