aga khan urges correct use of koran teachings

london , tuesday

the aga khan at the weekend spoke about freedom of interpretation as a "generosity which the holy koran confers upon all believers".

he also spoke of what was needed to assure "the growth of future generations of our intelligentsia, so that we strengthen our own capacity to determine our destiny".

in a keynote address at an international meeting entitled "word of god, art of man: the koran and its creative expressions," the aga khan, spiritual leader of the the shia ismaili muslims, said: "the revelation granted to the holy prophet muhammad opened new horizons and released new energies of mind and spirit."

it was, he said, a message "still potent in the muslim world today, although it is sometimes clouded over, distorted and deformed by political interests and by struggles for power over the minds and hearts of people."

there are attempts, he warned, "at transforming what are meant to be fluid, progressive, open-ended, intellectually informed and spiritually inspired traditions of thought, into hardened, monolithic, absolutist and obscurantist positions."

later , speaking to postgraduate students in islamic studies and humanities, the aga khan described the intellectual development of the ummah as an urgent challenge.

"in what voice or voices," he asked, "can the islamic heritage speak to us afresha voice true to the historical experience of the muslim world yet, at the same time, relevant to the technically advanced, but morally turbulent and uncertain world of today?"

The Aga Khan: "I am amazed by the ignorance of Islam"

PARIS - He is one of the spiritual leaders of Islam who best knows the land and the people of Central Asia, the area which holds the world in suspense. He is the Imam, the religious leader and guide of the Ishamilite, whose communities are spread in various countries of Asia and Africa, but also in Europe and in North America. Throughout Iran, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and West China, there are more than five million Ishmaelite. ......

"I think that monotheistic religions, having an analogous belief in an only God, should and must dialogue. The three religions which Abraham inspired have many more common facets than those which divide them.

Religion must be a means by which to affirm the ethical significance of existence, irrelevant of one's faith. If we want social development, to meet halfway, to dialogue, peace, we cannot neglect ethics and the impact which education and culture have on social growth."

[emphasis added, navali]

Islam is for muslims *al--Haqq — the Truth*

Shahru Ramađāna Al-Ladhī 'Unzila Fīhi Al-Qur'ānu Hudan Lilnnāsi Wa Bayyinātin Mina Al-Hudaá Wa Al-Furqāni

Wa Litukabbirū Allāha `Alaá Mā Hadākum Wa La`allakum Tashkurūna (2:185).

The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Qur'an, a guidance for mankind, and clear proofs of the guidance, and the FURQAN.

And whosoever of you is present, let him fast the month, and whosoever of you is sick or on a journey, (let him fast the same) number of other days.

Allah desireth for you ease; He desireth not hardship for you; and (He desireth) that ye should complete the period,

and that ye should magnify Allah for having guided you, and that peradventure ye may be thankful.

ya ali madad,

thanks for your email.

ya ali madad –
stems directly from the holy qur'an.
it will bring you close to ‘he who is high
above all else' and barakat from him, insha'allaah.

the holy prophet muhammad [sas] prayed for
hzt. ali's [as] help.

'islam' is indebted to ali's madad.

allah asks all to come to him in submission.

whereas, yam -- stands for yam_raj/jam_raj –
a devil or satan in hindu religion.
=

that said, your age-old question is interesting
indeed. the QUR'ANIC answer thereof is even more
interesting.

however, it requires 'IMAN & AQL - INTELLIGENCE'
not the human intelligence - & courage to accept it.
so pray for that divine wisdom and humility.

SILENCE – contemplation and meditation
is a higher form of fasting to RAHMAN,
wherein you are allowed to eat and drink!.

19:26. "so Eat And Drink and cool (thine) eye.
and if thou dost see any man,
say, 'i have vowed a
FAST TO RAHMAN,
so i shall not speak to any man today.

what is the purpose of fasting? what are the
qualities of a believing muslim according to the holy
qur'an?

2:183. o ye who believe! fasting is prescribed
for you, even as it was prescribed for those
before you, THAT YE MAY WARD OFF (EVIL);

66: 5. it may happen that his lord, if he
divorce you, will give him in your stead
        wives better than you,
        i.     submissive (to allah),
        ii.     believing,
        iii.    pious,
        iv.     penitent,
        v.     devout,
inclined to fasting,

taking nadi to jamat khana or daily food offering
or whatever to the holy imam's [sa] presence is
more beneficial then fasting for 30 days
without really understanding the significance
thereof.

muzzle your horse or donkey during ramadan and
they are fasting too. akbarally meherally is a
good example of this kind of fasting.

what is the foundation of 'ramadan and islam'?

2:185.
the month of ramadan in which was revealed

1. the qur'an, a guidance for mankind,
2. AND MANIFEST PROOFS OF THE GUIDANCE,
3. and the fur'qan.

:
:
allah desireth for you ease;
he desireth not hardship for you;
and (he desireth) that ye should
complete the period,
:
:
and that ye should
MAGNIFY ALLAH FOR
HAVING GUIDED YOU,
and that peradventure ye
may be THANKFUL.

this refers directly to the holy prophet and his  ahl al-baiyt, the rightful holy imams [pbuth]. so, what is the point  of fasting if one rejects ALLAH'S MANIFEST PROOFS, which he revealed in the MONTH OF RAMADAN?

6:115. Perfected is the Word of thy Lord in truth and justice. There is naught that can change His words. He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6:116. If thou obeyedst most of those on earth they would mislead thee far from Allah's way. They follow naught but an opinion, and they do but guess.
Pickthal's Quran Translation

4:53. Or have they a share in the kingdom? But then they would not give to people even the speck in the date stone. 4:54. Or do they envy the people for what Allah has given them of His grace? But indeed We have given to Ibrahim's children the Book and the wisdom, and We have given them a grand kingdom.
Shakir's Quran Translation

'Inna Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Bi'āyātinā Sawfa Nuşlīhim Nārāan Kullamā Nađijat Julūduhum Baddalnāhum Julūdāan Ghayrahā Liyadhūqū Al-`Adhāba 'Inna Allāha Kāna `Azīzāan Ĥakīmāan (4:56).

Lo! Those who disbelieve Our revelations, We shall expose them to the Fire. As often as their skins are consumed We shall exchange them for fresh skins that they may taste the torment. Lo! Allah is ever Mighty, Wise.

Wa Man Yushāqiq Ar-Rasūla Min Ba`di Mā Tabayyana Lahu Al-Hudaá Wa Yattabi` Ghayra Sabīli Al-Mu'uminīna Nuwallihi Mā Tawallaá Wa Nuşlihi Jahannama Wa Sā'at Maşīrāan (4:115).

And whoso opposeth the messenger after the guidance (of Allah) hath been manifested unto him, and followeth other than the believer's way, We appoint for him that unto which he himself hath turned, and expose him unto hell - a hapless journey's end!

note this comes directly from the holy qur'an, a guidance for mankind.

note the divine difference & combination

Fa'aqim Wajhaka Lilddīni Ĥanīfāan Fiţrata Allāhi Allatī Faţara An-Nāsa `Alayhā Lā Tabdīla Likhalqi Allāhi Dhālika Ad-Dīnu Al- Qayyimu Wa Lakinna 'Akthara An-Nāsi Lā Ya`lamūna (30).

So set thy FACE (O Muhammad) for religion as a man by nature upright - the nature of Allah, in which He hath ORIGINATED MAN. There is no altering (the laws of) Allah's creation. That is the right religion Dīnu Al- Qayyimu --RELIGION OF QAIM, but most men know not -

Fa'aqim Wajhaka Lilddīni Al-Qayyimi Min Qabli 'An Ya'tiya Yawmun Lā Maradda Lahu Mina Allāhi Yawma'idhin Yaşşadda`ūna (43).

So set thy FACE resolutely for the right religion--Lilddīni Al-Qayyimi -- FOR THE RELIGION OF QAIM, before the inevitable day cometh from Allah. On that day mankind will be sundered-

the bible on ' fasting' - note the divine difference & combination

i.    Lord <'Adonay> God <'elohiym>

ii.    LORD <Y@hovah> my God <'elohiym>

iii.    O  Lord <'Adonay>, the great <gadowl> and dreadful <yare'> God <'el>

Daniel 9:3 (KJVSL) And I set my face unto
the Lord <'Adonay> God <'elohiym>

to seek by prayer and supplications with
fasting <tsowm>, and sackcloth and ashes:

Daniel 9:4 (KJVSL) And I prayed unto the
LORD <Y@hovah> my God <'elohiym>

and made my confession and said

O Lord <'Adonay>,
the great <gadowl>
and dreadful <yare'>
God <'el>,

keeping the covenant and mercy <checed>
to them that love him
and to them that keep
his commandments <mitsvah>;

Daniel 9:5 (KJVSL) We have sinned and have committed iniquity and have done wickedly and have rebelled even by departing from thy precepts <mitsvah> and from thy judgments <mishpat>:

jesus on fasting

matthew 9:14 (kjv) then came to him the disciples
of john, saying, why do we and the pharisees
fast oft, but thy disciples fast not?
matthew 9:15 (kjv) and jesus said unto them,
can the children of the bridechamber
mourn, as long as the BRIDEGROOM IS WITH
THEM?
but the days will come, when the
bridegroom shall be taken from them,
and THEN SHALL THEY FAST.

see what jesus was trying to say? think about it
seriously.

we follow the guidance of the holy imam [sa] of
the age. our holy imams abrogated the fasting
when times were difficult and different.

however, in our ismaili tradition we fast on
a sukravari biij instead. but other muslims do
not follow that tradition or the imam of the age.

could the concept of sukravari biij fall with
the premise of the following verse? i don't know.
but it is worth thinking about it.

2:184. fast a certain number of days;
and (for) him who is sick among you,
or on a journey, (the same) number of other days;
and for those who can afford it there is a ransom:
THE FEEDING OF A MAN IN NEED -
but whoso doeth GOOD of his own accord,
it is BETTER for him:
and that ye FAST IS BETTER for you if ye did but know

doing good is better and fasting is also better.
but which/what comes before and from fasting and vice versa?

wa likulli qawmin HADIN (13:7).
those who disbelieve say:
if only some AYAT - REVELATION were sent down upon him from his lord!
thou art a warner only, and for every folk a GUIDE – HADI

our holy imam [sa[ is OUR HADI and we follow him in all matters concerning islam and ourselves.

17:71. one day we shall call together all
human beings with their (respective) imams:
17:72. but those who were blind in this, will be blind in the hereafter, and most astray from the path

=

look at the above verses and tell me what is
more important in islam?

fasting or following the true imam [sa]?

allah's didar in the hereafter depends on
recognizing the imam in this – not just this
world. if you don't follow him then according
to allah, you will be blind in this and in
the hereafter and further from the path!
=

so what is islam without the imam's holy path?
YOU CAN FAST ALL YOU WANT.

'islam--submission'  versus  'imaan--faith'

'Wa Lammā Yadkhuli Al-'Īmānu Fī Qulūbikum'

FOR THE FAITH HATH NOT YET
ENTERED INTO
YOUR HEARTS'

Qālat Al-'A`rābu 'Āmannā Qul Lam Tu'uminū Wa Lakin Qūlū 'Aslamnā

Wa Lammā Yadkhuli Al-'Īmānu Fī Qulūbikum

Wa 'In Tuţī`ū Allāha Wa Rasūlahu Lā Yalitkum Min 'A`mālikum Shay'āan 'Inna Allāha Ghafūrun Raĥīmun (49:14).

The wandering Arabs say: We believe. Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Ye believe not, but rather say "We submit,"

for the faith hath not yet entered into your hearts.

Yet, if ye obey Allah and His messenger, He will not withhold from you aught of (the reward of) your deeds. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

Qul 'Atu`allimūna Allāha Bidīnikum Wa Allāhu Ya`lamu Mā Fī As-Samāwāti Wa Mā Fī Al-'Arđi Wa Allāhu Bikulli Shay'in `Alīmun (49:16).

Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Would ye teach Allah your religion, when Allah knoweth that--he who - is in the heavens and that--he who is in the earth, and Allah is Aware of all things ?

Yamunnūna `Alayka 'An 'Aslamū Qul Lā Tamunnū `Alayya 'Islāmakum Bal Allāhu Yamunnu `Alaykum 'An Hadākum Lil'īmāni 'In Kuntum Şādiqīna (49:17).

They make it a favour unto thee (Muhammad) that they have surrendered (unto Him). Say: Deem not your Surrender a favour unto me; but Allah doth confer a favour on you, inasmuch as He hath led you to the Faith, if ye are earnest.

hope this helps! otherwise tell your friends,

109: 6. unto you your religion, and unto me my
religion.

2:256. there is no compulsion in religion.
