non-ismaili shia commentary

[Pooya/Ali Commentary  56:7]  According to Sahih Bukhari, the Holy Prophet said:

"He who does not recognise the Imam of his age and leaves this world dies the death of ignorance."

The work of legislation was ended with the ministry of the Holy Prophet. Through the last messenger of Allah, the perfected and completed religion of Allah was conveyed to mankind for their material welfare and spiritual progress for all times till the end of the world; yet the mercy of the Lord must continue because an everlasting covenant was made with Ibrahim--abraham:

I will fulfil my covenant between myself and you and your descendants after you, generation after generation, an everlasting covenant. (Genesis 17: 7)

Therefore there must be an infallible Imam, a divinely commissioned guide, with power and authority delegated to him by Allah, in every age, to keep the people on the right path and direct them unto the destination determined by the merciful Lord of the worlds.

The Holy Prophet said:

Whoever dies, not knowing the Imam of his age, dies in ignorance.

Allah made Ibrahim an Imam of mankind. He was neither a ruler nor a political force, yet it was made obligatory on mankind to obey him in all temporal as well as spiritual matters, and after him, to obey those of his descendants who have been chosen as Imams. Therefore it is the duty of all Muslims to obey and follow the Imam of the age in all matters,

The Arabs of the desert are the worst in Unbelief and hypocrisy

9:97. The Arabs of the desert are the worst in Unbelief and hypocrisy, and most fitted to be in ignorance of the command which Allah hath sent down to His Messenger: But Allah is Text Box: 4 All-knowing, All-Wise. 9:98. Some of the desert Arabs look upon their payments as a fine, and watch for disasters for you: on them be the disaster of evil: for Allah is He That heareth and knoweth (all things). 9:101. Certain of the desert Arabs round about you are hypocrites, as well as (desert Arabs) among the Medina folk: they are obstinate in hypocrisy: thou knowest them not: We know them: twice shall We punish them: and in addition shall they be sent to a grievous penalty.

wahhabism - an unislamic reformation

it is very  sad and  regrettable to note that the wahhabis have reformed their  century old faith and practice of islam beyond recognition. in the process, some of the most important and fundamental 'qur'anic'  precepts and  'aayaats--revelations'  have been changed and/or DROPPED by the wahhabi royals and their MISINFORMED henchmen. and although, they claim to be staunch--puritan muslims, rest assured, their version of islam leaves much to be desired.

unfortunately,  this was/is the same sectarian and innovative faith, which, was also practiced and mercilessly imposed upon millions of  poor afghans by al-qaida, the taliban and their infamous leader one  osama bin laden, a saudi born arab.

in spite of the above qur'anic injunctions, the wahhabi royals had the audacity to DROP the opening verse of the opening surah in their daily prayers. and just like them, several million unsuspecting or misinformed muslims who observed the holy month of ramadan and the hajj season at mecca, saudia only followed suit, dare i say, to the detriment of their own souls.

So there is no indication, in the portion of the Anas hadith’s wording that is agreed upon by both Bukhari and Muslim; namely, "I prayed with the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace), Abu Bakr, ‘Umar, and ‘Uthman, and they opened with ‘al-Hamdu li Llahi Rabbi l-‘Alamin,’" that the Basmala was not recited aloud. Says Tirmidhi: "Imam Shafi‘i has said, ‘Its meaning is that they used to begin with the Fatiha before the sura, not that they did not recite "Bismi Llahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim."’ And Shafi‘i held that the prayer was begun with ‘Bismi Llahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim,’ and that it was recited aloud in prayers recited aloud" (Tirmidhi, 2.16).

how closely was/IS  hzt. ali [as] related to a muslim's faith, especially with regards to his daily performance of prayers, irrespective of his belief or disbelief in him as his imam [pbuh] or the first imam--priest of the muslim ummah -- formed by the holy prophet [sas] himself?

       [Pooya/Ali Commentary 1:1]
It is said that al Fatihah is the quintessence of the Quran, and bismillahir rahmanir rahim is the essence of al Fatihah, and the letter ba of bismillah is the embodiment of bismillahir rahmanir rahim, and the dot below the first letter ba of bismillah is the spirit of the first verse.

Ali, son of Abu Talib, the first of the holy Imams, had said:  "I am the dot below the ba of bismillah"

which means that to Ali has been entrusted the whole of the book and its true exposition, .... The statement of Ali is testified by the well-known and universally accepted declaration (hadith) of the Holy Prophet.

28 Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?: Jesus cries out in the words of Psalm 22:2, a psalm of lament that is the Old Testament passage most frequently drawn upon in this narrative. In Mark the verse is cited entirely in Aramaic, which Matthew partially retains but changes the invocation of God to the Hebrew Eli, possibly because that is more easily related to the statement of the following verse about Jesus' calling for Elijah.

29 Elijah: see the note on Matthew 3:4. This prophet, taken up into heaven (2 Kings 2:11), was believed to come to   the help of those in distress, but the evidences of that belief are all later than the gospels.

       [Pooya/Ali Commentary 1:1]

BISMILLAHIR-RAHMANIR-RAHIM, as the first verse, is the part and parcel of al Fatihah.

Aqa Mahdi Puya says:

The Holy Prophet said:

LA SALATA ILLA BIFATIHATUL KITAB WA BISMILLAHIR RAHMANIR RAHIM MIN AYATIHA

There is no prayer (salat) without al Fatihah, and bismillahir rahmanir rahim is one of its verses. The Ahl ul Bayt (the thoroughly purified members of the family of the Holy Prophet), and the scholars, who follow their teachings, time and again, had verified this saying of the Holy Prophet. So according to Muhammad and ali Muhammad bismillahir rahmanir rahim is a verse by itself, which, if not recited as a part of al Fatihah, the prayer is rendered null and void. It is not only the component of al Fatihah but also of every surah except al Bara-at.

In the light of the clear decisions and evidences of the practical acts of the Holy Prophet and his Ahl ul Bayt, the arguments of the dissenting scholars carry no weight. According to the Holy Prophet and his divinely chosen Ahl ul Bayt bismillahir rahmanir rahim is the first of the seven verses of al Fatihah. And when Muhammad and ali Muhammad have said so, there remains no doubt whatsoever. Any opinion contrary to the verdict of Muhammad and ali Muhammad is pure conjecture.

Abu Hanifa, founder of the Hanafi school, gave permission to his followers to recite bismillahir rahmanir rahim quietly, with al Fatihah, in prayers, because the Holy Prophet used to recite al Fatihah with bismillahir rahmanir rahim in his prayers, yet in his (Abu Hanifa's) opinion it was not a part of the surah. (Tafsir Kabir - Abdul Hayy) There are some scholars who admit that al Fatihah consists of seven verses but to insist on their misconceived notion that bismillahir rahmanir rahim is not included in it they split the last verse into two separate verses, although the meaning and the construction of the verse does not justify it.

Once a man offered prayers in presence of the Holy Prophet without saying bismillahir rahmanir rahim in his recitation of al Fatihah. The Holy Prophet told him:

You have rendered your prayer null and void by omitting bismillah from Fatihah. Do you not know that bismillah is the part of al Fatihah? (Durrul Manthur by Suyuti)

On one occasion, Mu-awiyah, while leading a prayer in Madina, recited al Fatihah without bismillah. At the end the participating pray-ers, made a hue and cry. To pacify the protestations he prayed the same prayer again and recited al Fatihah with bismillah. This event bears out the fact that those who saw and heard the Holy Prophet, prior to the influx of alterations, knew that if in any prayer al Fatihah is recited without bismillah, it is rendered null and void. (Fakhruddin Razi and Kanzul Ummal)

Bismillahir rahmanir rahim, in addition to al Fatihah, is also the part of al Naml:

Verily, it is from Sulayman; and it is 'In the name of Allah, the beneficent, the merciful'. This is the beginning of the letter prophet Sulayman wrote to the queen of Shiba.

Whatever be the point of view of the dissenting scholars, it has been decisively established that the Holy Prophet always recited bismillahir rahmanir rahim as the part of al Fatihah, therefore, we all should follow him.

THE EXCELLENCE IN RECITING THE DUROOD SHAREEF UPON THE HOLY PROPHET MUHAMMAD

The message of Allah Ta'ala to Sayyiduna Rasoolullah has come down to us in the form of the Holy Quran and the teachings of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah have reached us in the form of the Ahadith. Let us see what both the Holy Quran and Ahadith say about Durood Shareef (Salawat): Innal llaha wa Malaa'ikatahu Yu salluna allan nabiyi. Ya Ayyuhal lazeena aamanu sallu alaihi wasallimu tasleema.

Almighty Allah says: "Surely Allah and His Angels send blessings on the Holy Prophet . O you who believe! Send Blessings (Durood) and Salutations (Salaams) on the Prophet with worthy Salutation". (Surah al-Ahzab: 56)

In this verse of the Holy Quran, Almighty Allah, His Malaa'ikah and the Muslims have been mentioned as sending Durood upon Sayyiduna Rasoolullah . So, Durood Shareef is actually "a Du'a in praise of the Holy Prophet Muhammad ."

Hazrat Anas narrates that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah said: "He who reads a single Durood upon me, Almighty Allah blesses him ten times, ten of his sins are forgiven, and he is increased ten times in stages (internally). (Mishkaat)

Hazrat Abdullah ibn Ma'sud also narrates that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah said: "On the Day of Qiyamah, the closest to me from among the people will be those who have read the most amount of Durood Shareef". (Tirmidhi)

CONDUCT OF SALAT

A guide to SALAT (Prayer)
Muhammad Abdul Karim Saqib
Darussalam: Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

QIBLAH

Wherever a person is in the world, he should face towards the Kabah when he is going to pray. The Kabah is in the sacred mosque of Makkah in Saudi Arabia. Facing towards Qiblah (Kabah) is a very important condition of performance of Salat.

It is important to start the Salat facing the direction of Qiblah and it does not matter if his direction changes while he is praying e.g. in a ship, a train or an airplane, etc.

    TAAWUDH

Then the person who is praying should say:

I seek Allah's protection from Satan who is accursed.

This should only be said in the first Rakat.

    TASMIYAH

Then the person who is praying should say:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, and the Most Merciful.

This should be said in every Rakat before reciting Surah Fatihah.

SURAH FATIHAH

Then the person praying should recite Surah Al Fatihah in Arabic.

the qur'anic description of the kabah:

pilgrimage, payments, offerings and garlands are to be brought to the kabah

5:95. O ye who believe! Kill no wild game while ye are on the pilgrimage. Whoso of you killeth it of set purpose he shall pay its forfeit in the equivalent of that which he hath killed, of domestic Text Box: 4 animals, the judge to be two men among you known for justice, to be brought as an offering to the Ka'bah; or, for expiation, he shall feed poor persons, or the equivalent thereof in fasting, 5:96. but to hunt on land is forbidden you so long as ye are on the pilgrimage. Be mindful of your duty to Allah, unto Whom ye will be gathered. 5:97. Allah hath appointed the Ka'bah, the Sacred House, a standard for mankind, and the Sacred Month and the offerings and the garlands.

did any of the above divinely ordained rites and rituals take place at the kabah during the holy month of ramadan and the pilgrimage? rest assured, i witnessed no such thing at anytime.

SALAWAT FROM THEIR LORD

2:157. Such are they on whom are blessings--SALAWATun-- from their Lord, and mercy. Such are the rightly guided. 2:157. Ola-ika AAalayhim SALAWATun min rabbihim warahmatun waola-ika humu almuhtadoona.

       [Pooya/Ali Commentary 2:157]

Those who face misfortunes with a smile, knowing that it is the Lord's way of teaching patience and understanding, are the followers of the right path. The Lord prays for and blesses them - salawat is the word for Allah's blessings. In view of the extraordinary merits, achievements and excellence, mentioned on pages I to 7, and in the commentary of verse 7 of al Fatihah, and verses 2 to 5 and 30 to 39 and 124 of al Baqarah, and other verses of the Quran, only the holy Ahl ul Bayt of Muhammad al Mustafa can be joined with him for receiving Allah's salawat (see verse 56 of al Ahzab). Therefore, every true faithful says: "ALLAHUMMA SALLI ALA MUHAMMADIN WA ALI MUHAMMAD".

Be guardians of your prayers--ALSSALAWATI

2:238. Be guardians of your prayers--ALSSALAWATI
and of the midmost prayer--salat alwusta,
and stand up with devotion to Allah.
238. Hafithoo AAala alsSALAWATi
waalssalati alwusta
waqoomoo lillahi qaniteena

       [Pooya/Ali Commentary 33:56]

Allah sends His blessings (salawat) on the Holy Prophet. The angels invoke Allah to send His blessings on him. The believers are also commanded to invoke Allah to send His blessings on him. The Muslims asked the Holy Prophet: "How are we to seek blessings on you?" He said: "Say: 'O Allah, send blessings on Muhammad and on the al (children) of Muhammad."

Bukhari writes in his Sahih, page 127, volume 3 (Egypt edition) that the Holy Prophet said: "Say: 'O Allah send blessings on Muhammad and on ali Muhammad (Ah ul Bayt) just as You blessed Ibrahim and ali Ibrahim'.

Ahmad bin Hanbal writes in his Musnad, volume 6 page 323, that the Holy Prophet covered Ali, Fatimah, Hasan and Husayn with a blanket and said: "O Allah these are my Abl ul Bayt so I invoke You to send Your blessings on Muhammad and ali Muhammad."

Muslim has also related this in his Sahih, in part I of "the book of prayers."

Also refer to Mushkil al Athar by Tahawi (volume 1, page 334), Kanz al Ummal by Ali Muttaqi (volume 7, page 103) and Tafsir Durr al Manthur by Jalaluddin al Suyuti in his interpretation of ayah al tat-hir. He has also quoted the well-known verse composed by Al Shafi-i:

"O Ahl ul Bayt of Allah's messenger, your love is a duty made obligatory upon us in the Quran. It is enough among your great privileges that whoever does not invoke Allah's blessings on you, his prayer (salat) is void."

Ibn Hajar also quoted these lines of Shafi-i on page 88 of his Sawa-iq al Muhriqah, in connection with his interpretation of verse 33 of Ahzab.

It is compulsory to recite salawat whenever the name of the Holy Prophet is mentioned.

SALAT

umm salamah had made a similar statement, too. all this clearly proves that the ka'bah-qiblah or the ka'bah -- was never a part of the muslim prayer--salah, a fact which i have shown repeatedly from the holy qur'an.

SHIA 12ERS ON THE KABAH

"It is also said that the regard paid to the Holy KA'BAH IS A COMPROMISE WITH IDOLATRY. None can prove any vestige of idolatry in the Haj. ..... Truly, Islam has done justice to even to IDOLATRY. ..... Islam retained the regard attached to the hillocks of 'Safa' and 'Marwah' for their historical association with the even connected with the life of the Holy Prophets Abraham and Ishmael. IF THIS IS IDOLATRY, Islam should be rightly proud of it, and shall not wish to part with it. No religion can be perfect without making a provision for the cultivation of these sublime emotions." KA'BAH: Lit. "A cube." The cube-like building in the centre of  the  mosque at Makkah

pro-wahhabi source

KA'BAH: Lit. "A cube."
The cube-like building
in the centre of the mosque at Makkah,
which contains the Hajaru 'l-Aswad, or black stone. ...... At the south-east corner of the Kabah, near the door, is the famous black stone (HAJARU 'L-ASWAD), which forms a part of the sharp angle of the building, at four or five feet above the ground. The black stone is an irregular oval, about seven inches in diameter, with an undulating surface, composed of about a dozen smaller stones of different shape and sizes. .....

According to the rites of the pilgrimage, this stone, [2nd of common Makkan stone], which is called
ar-RUKNU 'L-YAMANI OR YAMAN PILLAR, should only be touched with the right hand as the pilgrim passes it.

But
*CAPTAIN BURTON* says he frequently saw it kissed by the pilgrims. Just by the door of the Kabah, and close to the wall, is a slight hollow in the ground, lined with marble and sufficiently large to admit of three persons sitting, which called al- Mi'jan, and supposed to be the place where Abraham and Ishmael kneaded the chalk and mud which they used to build the Ka'bah. Here it is thought meritorious to pray. .....

On the north-west side of the Ka'bah, about two feet below its summit, is the water- spout, which is called the Mi'zabu' r-Rahmah, or the water-spout of mercy.
THIS SPOUT IS OF GOLD, AND WAS SENT HITHER FROM CONSTANTINOPLE IN AH. 981. It carries rain from the roof, and discharges it upon *Ishmael's grave.*

THERE ARE TWO LARGE GREEN MARBLE SLABS, which are said to have been PRESENTS FROM CAIRO, AH. 241, which are supposed to mark the *graves of Hagar and Ishmael.*

The pavement round the KA'BAH consists of a very handsome mosaic of various coloured stones, and is said to have been laid in AH. 826. On one side of the Ka'bah is a semicircular wall, the extremities of which are in line with the sides of the Ka'bah, and distant about six feet, leaving an opening which leads to the *grave of Ishmael.* The wall is called al-Hatim, 'the broken,' and the enclosed area of *al-Hijr,* 'the enclosure' [dictionary of islam, by t.d. hughes, reprinted in lahore, pakistan, pp.256-257]

facing the WRONG QIBLAH

this is the wahhabi's proud depiction of the kabah as it stand today.

i am sure even the holy prophet [sas] and his early companions will be totally lost in this newly REBUILT KABAH with its opulent and grandeur breathtaking surroundings.

and that's not all. how many disbelievers like the said wahhabis, al-qaidas, the talibans and the sunni akbarally meherally, etc., followed these 'islamic rituals' in their homes during the holy month of ramadan? how many non-muslims did the same thing?  in so doing did they not violate the following qur'anic injunctions?

'So let them not come near the sacred Mosque' -- MASJIDIL HARAAM & THE HAJJ - PILGRIMAGE

9: 7. How can there be a treaty with Allah and with His messenger for the idolaters save those with whom ye  made a treaty at the sacred Mosque -- MASJIDIL HARAAM?   9:19. Count ye the slaking of a pilgrim's thirst and tendance of the sacred Mosque -- MASJIDIL HARAAM -- as (equal to the worth of) him who believeth in Allah and the Last Day, and striveth in the way of Allah? They are not equal in the sight of Allah. Allah guideth not wrongdoing folk. 9:28. O ye who believe! The idolaters only are unclean. So let them not come near the sacred Mosque -- MASJIDIL HARAAM --  after this their year. If ye fear poverty (from the loss of their merchandise) Allah shall preserve you of His bounty if He will. Lo! Allah is Knower, Wise.

The Arabs of the desert are the worst in Unbelief and hypocrisy

9:97. The Arabs of the desert are the worst in Unbelief and hypocrisy, and most fitted to be in ignorance of the command which Allah hath sent down to His Messenger: But Allah is  All-knowing, All-Wise.

9.101: C1350. The desert Arabs were not all simple folk. There were cunning hypocrites among them: both among certain tribes encamped round about Madinah and certain others in Madinah itself.  C1351. Their punishment in this world was double, viz., not only in their discomfiture, but because in their obstinate ignorance, they failed to understand the accomplished facts, while cleverer men realised that their hostility to Islam was hopeless. In addition to their discomfiture in this life, they would have to meet the penalties to come. Yusuf Ali's Commentary from QuranTrans

C6221. The People of the Book immediately referred to are the Jews and the Christians, who had received scriptures in the same line of
prophecy in which came our holy Prophet. Their scriptures should have prepared them for the advent of the greatest and last of the Prophets. For the Jewish scriptures promised to the Jews, cousins or brethren to the Arabs, a prophet like Moses: "The Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken" (Deut, xviii. 15). And Christ promised a Comforter (John. xiv. 16; xv. 26; and xvi. 7; see my n. 5438 to lxi. 6) almost by name. The People of the Book fell from the true, straight, and standard religion, into devious ways, and would not come to the true Path until (they said) they were convinced by the arrival of the promised Prophet. But when the promised Prophet came in the person of Muhammad, they rejected him, because they really did not seek for Truth but only followed their own fancies and desires.

MASJIDIL HARAAM -- QIBLAH

2:144. We see the turning of thy face (for guidance to the heavens: now Shall We turn thee to a Qibla that shall please thee. Turn then Thy face in the direction of the sacred Mosque -- MASJIDIL HARAAM --: Wherever ye are, turn your faces in that direction. The people of the Book know well that that is the truth from their Lord. Nor is Allah unmindful of what they do. 2:149.  From whencesoever Thou startest forth, turn Thy face in the direction of the sacred Mosque -- MASJIDIL HARAAM --; that is indeed the truth from the Lord. And Allah is not unmindful of what ye do. 2:150. So from whencesoever Thou startest forth, turn Thy face in the direction of the sacred Mosque -- MASJIDIL HARAAM -- ; and wheresoever ye are, Turn your face thither: but fear Me; and that I may complete My favours on you, and ye May (consent to) be guided;   Yusuf Ali's Quran Translation

WHY did Allah choose Masjidil Haraam--the Sacred *M_A_S_J_I_D* as the QIBLAH and NOT the Ka'bah --*B-A-Y-T-A-L* Haraam--the Sacred House?

Notice the difference between the two! They have never been one AND THE SAME  despite all claims to the contrary.

the holy 'IMAM/HIS HOUSE' -- is the 'TRUE QIBLAH' on the SIRAATIM MUSTAQIIM for 'esoteric' muslims

2:177. It is not righteousness that ye turn your faces to the East and  the West; 2:142. The foolish of the people will say: What hath turned them from the QIBLAH which they formerly observed? : Say: Unto Allah belong the East and the West. He guideth whom He will unto a straight path -- SIRAATIM MUSTAQIIM [IMAM ABRAHAM'S RELIGION --  6:161. Say: Lo! As for me, my Lord hath guided me unto a straight path-- SIRAATIM MUSTAQIIM, a right religion -- DIINAN QIYAMAM, the RELIGION OF ABRAHAM  [IMAM], the upright, who was no idolater.

Moses was for a little while to remain in Egypt, so that his Message should have time to work, before the Israelites were led out of Egypt. They were to make their houses into places of prayer (Qibla), as Pharaoh would not probably allow them to set up public places of prayer. and they were now to be only sojourners in Egypt. These were the glad tidings (the Gospel) of Islam, which was preached under Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus, and completed under Muhammad. Yusuf Ali's Commentary from QuranTrans

QIBLAH

Wherever a person is in the world, he should face towards the Kabah when he is going to pray. The Kabah is in the sacred mosque of Makkah in Saudi Arabia. Facing towards Qiblah (Kabah) is a very important condition of performance of Salat.

it is clear from the late a. yusuf ali's arguments that he did not understand the real and profound significance of the qur'anic commands and hence, his defensive position re: the question of abrogation at this juncture - which i further believe was not only unjustified and uncalled-for but it was totally out of place and question.

on the other hand, although the editors and revisers of ali's work have retained the said argument 'as is' i guess, for the same reason - they have made a slight but very important correction and addition to the formers original commentary - which insha'allaah will help us understand this presentation much more clearly.

they have made the following correction to it by adding, **i.e., the mosque [namely, masjidil haraam, author], _w_h_e_r_e_i_n_** ---- 'the kaba is located.'

what it means is that the masjidil haraam -- a_n_d -- the kabah are and have always been as well, treated as two *s_e_p_a_r_a_t_e* buildings and entities in islam and the holy qur'an. this latest correction makes this decision unanimous since it corroborates the holy qur'an.

QIBLAH straight path -- SIRAATIM MUSTAQIIM -- EAST AND THE WEST

a very important verse has come to mind in this respect - which in true
sense of the word, does not abrogate any of the verses pertaining to the masjidil haraam qiblah per se., but rather, it enhances the deeper meaning thereof. the verse is:

IMPORTANT SIGNIFICANCE

IT IS NOT RIGHTEOUSNESS

HQ. 2.177 IT IS NOT RIGHTEOUSNESS THAT YE TURN YOUR FACES TO THE EAST AND THE WEST; but righteous is he who believeth in Allah and the Last Day and the angels and the Scripture and the prophets; AND GIVETH WEALTH, FOR LOVE OF HIM, TO KINSFOLK -- WA AATAL- MAALA'ALAA HUBBIHII ZAWIL-QURBAA -- and to orphans and the needy and the wayfarer and to those who ask, and to set slaves free; and observeth proper *WORSHIP-- SALAT* and payeth the poor-due--ZAKAAH. And those who keep their PROMISE when they make one, and the patient in tribulation and adversity and time of stress. Such are they who are sincere. Such are the God-fearing.

=

in view of the above, we can assert a 115% that the muslim salaat--prayer -- as ordained in the holy qur'an only, was *n-e-v-e-r* tied up to either the masjidil haraam--qiblah or the ka'bah - as misconstrued by many a muslim for all these centuries past.

despite the muslim practice for centuries now, we must question the same because it is based on ahadith only, which were written some 250 years after the holy prophet (sas). other than the political reasons given therein, no muslim source, [except the holy qur'an] can assert for sure as to why the qiblah was changed - and what the holy prophet (sas) himself believed as such. please follow the trend of my thought in order to understand the basis of my argument.

note first of all, the importance of this verse alone. among other things it clear asserts:

a.     'It is *NOT* righteousness that ye TURN YOUR FACES TO THE EAST AND THE WEST;

b.     But righteous is he who ....

c.    And giveth wealth, for love of Him, to kinsfolk--wa aatal-maala'alaa HUBBIHII ZAWIL QURBAA ...

d.     And observeth proper *_W_O_R_S_H_I_P_* and payeth the poor-due --   wa aqaamas - *_S_A_L_A_A_T_A_* wa aataz Zakaah

e.     And those who keep their PROMISE when they make one,

=

Allah Himself says that it not righteous to turn your faces East or West.
But righteous is he who ......... among other things, gives of his wealth
*FOR HIS LOVE [note the condition] TO ZAAWIL QURBAA,*
etc., and establishes
*S_A_L_A_A_T* and pays Zakah and those who keep their PROMISE when they make
one.

It is important to note that following the belief in the Allah --- Prophets,
etc., Allah speaks of giving to Zaawil--Qurbaa, before He even asks us to
establish proper worship--Salat. In other words, all other practices in
Islam are futile without following this God-given criterion and injunction
only.

Meaning, THE SALAAT WAS/IS NOT TIED up to either the Masjidil Haraam--Qiblah
or the Ka'bah. Rather it is tied down to:

1) 'And giveth wealth, *FOR HIS LOVE TO KINSFOLK* --
wa aatal-maala'alaa  *HUBBIHII ZAWIL-QURBAA;*

2) And establishing Salaat;
3) And pays Zakah.'
4) And those who keep their PROMISE when they make one.

=

Thereafter, the overall significance of all these combined is tied down
CONTINUALLY & ETERNALLY to only the Masjidil Haraam Qiblah. Now, who are the
*kindred--blood relatives* referred to and meant here?

The above plus other pertinent verses and the Holy Prophet's (SAS) farewell message at Ghadir - e-Khum re: 'The Holy Qur'an and His Ahl al-Baiyt' should now be brought into full view and contemplated upon rather seriously. One may take that as a starting point. It is also the crux of Islam. Follow the irreversible sequence and Allah's absolute and irrevocable condition in order to understand this matter properly and correctly.

One of the Sunni Muslim sources of Ahadith says:

SAHIH MUSLIM, BOOK 30:

Book 30, Number 5955:

NARRATED AISHA

ALLAH'S APOSTLE (peace_be_upon_him) went out one morning
wearing a striped cloak of the black camel's hair that
there came HASAN IBN ALI. He wrapped him under it, then
came HUSAYN and he wrapped him under it along with the
other one (HASAN). Then came FATIMAH and he took her
under it, then came ALI and he also took him under it
and then said: ALLAH ONLY DESIRES TO TAKE AWAY ANY
UNCLEANLINESS FROM YOU,
O PEOPLE OF THE HOUSEHOLD,
AND PURIFY YOU (THOROUGH PURIFYING) (XXXIII.33).

---------------------------

Book 30, Number 5920:

Narrated Zayd ibn Arqam:

Yazid ibn Hayyan reported: I went with Husayn ibn Sabrah and Umar
ibn Muslim to ZAYD IBN ARQAM and, as we sat by his side, Husayn
said to him: Zayd, you have been able to acquire great virtue him
that you saw Allah's Messenger (peace_be_upon_him), listened to
his conversation, fought by his side in (different) battles and
offered prayer behind him. Zayd, you have in fact earned a great
virtue. ZAYD, NARRATE TO US WHAT YOU HEARD FROM
ALLAH`S MESSENGER (PEACE_BE_UPON_HIM).

He said: I have grown old; I have almost reached the end of my
life-span and I have forgotten some of the things which I
remembered in connection with Allah's Messenger
(peace_be_upon_him). So accept whatever I narrate to you, and
those which I do not narrate, do not compel me to narrate them.

He then said: ONE DAY ALLAH'S MESSENGER (PEACE_BE_
UPON_HIM) STOOD UP TO DELIVER A SERMON AT A
WATERING-PLACE KNOWN AS **KHUMM** SITUATED BETWEEN
MECCA AND MEDINA
.

He praised Allah, extolled Him, delivered the sermon, exhorted
(us) and said: Now to our purpose, O people: I am a human being.
Perhaps I am about to receive a messenger (the angel of death)
from my Lord, and I, in response to Allah's call, (shall bid
good-bye to you).

**BUT I AM LEAVING AMONG YOU TWO WEIGHTY
THINGS**

: the ONE being the Book of Allah in which there
is right guidance and light, so hold fast to the
Book of Allah and adhere to it. He exhorted (us)
(to hold fast) to the Book of Allah, and then said:

THE SECOND ARE THE MEMBERS OF MY HOUSEHOLD;
I REMIND YOU (OF YOUR DUTIES) TO THE MEMBERS OF MY FAMILY.

He (Husayn) said to Zayd: WHO ARE THE MEMBERS OF
HIS HOUSEHOLD? Aren't his wives the members of his family?

THEREUPON HE SAID: His wives are the members of his
family (BUT HERE) THE MEMBERS OF HIS FAMILY are those
for whom acceptance of zakat is forbidden. AND HE
SAID: WHO ARE THEY?

THEREUPON HE SAID:
**ALI AND THE OFFSPRING OF ALI,**

Aqil and the offspring of Aqil, the offspring of
Ja'far and the offspring of Abbas. Husayn said: These
are those for whom the acceptance of Zakat is forbidden.
Zayd said: Yes.

SUNNI SOURCES ON BISMILLAAHIR RAHMAANIR RAHIIM

Second, the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, "When you recite ‘al-Hamdu li Llah,’ recite ‘Bismi Llahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim,’ for it is the Sum of the Qur’an (Umm al-Qur’an), and the Compriser of the Scripture (Umm al-Kitab), and the Seven Oft-Repeated [Verses] (al-Sab‘ al-Mathani)—and ‘Bismi Llahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim’ is one of its verses" (Bayhaqi, 2.45; and Daraqutni, 1.312), a hadith related with a rigorously authenticated (sahih) channel of transmission to the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace), and through another chain to Abu Hurayra alone (Allah be well pleased with him).

details below:

Bismillahir rahmanir rahim

This is a phrase from the Qur'an that is recited before reading the Qur'an. It is to be read immediately after one reads the phrase: "A'uzu Billahi Minashaitanir Rajim."

This phrase is also recited before doing any daily activity. The meaning of it is: "In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful."

Why the Shaafis Recite the Basmalah Aloud In the Salat

Although this was not the focus of the article of which this is an excerpt, Shaykh Nuh Keller does go into great detail explaining how Imam Shaafi'i(r) came to his conclusion and on what basis

It may surprise some people to learn that one example (of a hadith with a hidden flaw) often cited in hadith textbooks of such a hidden flaw (‘illa) is from Sahih Muslim, all of whose hadiths are rigorously authenticated (sahih), as Ibn al-Salah has said, "except for a very small number of words, which hadith masters of textual evaluation (naqd) such as Daraqutni and others have critiqued, and which are known to scholars of this level" (‘Ulum al-hadith). The hadith of the present example was related by Muslim from the Companion Anas ibn Malik in several versions, which might convince those unaware of its flaw to believe that someone at prayer should omit the Basmala or "Bismi Llahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim" at the beginning of the Fatiha. According to the hadith, Anas ibn Malik (Allah be well pleased with him) said,

I prayed with the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace), Abu Bakr, ‘Umar, and ‘Uthman, and they opened with "al-Hamdu li Llahi Rabbi l-‘Alamin," not mentioning "Bismi Llahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim" at the first of the recital or the last of it [and in another version, "I didn’t hear any of them recite ‘Bismi Llahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim’"] (Muslim, 1.299).

Scholars say the hadith’s flaw lies in the negation of the Basmala at the end, which is not the words of Anas, but rather one of the subnarrators explaining what he thought Anas meant. Ibn al-Salah says: "Its subnarrator related it with the above-mentioned wording in accordance with his own understanding of it" (Muqaddima Ibn al-Salah (b01), 99). This hadith is given as an example of a "hidden flaw" in a number of manuals of hadith terminology such as hadith master (hafiz) Suyuti’s Tadrib al-rawi (1.254–57); hadith master Ibn al-Salah’s Ulum al-hadith; hadith master Zayn al-Din al-‘Iraqi’s al-Taqyid wa al-idah (98–103); and others. Al-‘Iraqi says, "A number of hadith masters (huffaz) have judged it to be flawed, including Shafi‘i, Daraqutni, Bayhaqi, and Ibn ‘Abd al-Barr" (ibid., 98).

Now, Bukhari has related the hadith up to the words "and they opened with ‘al-Hamdu li Llahi Rabbi l-‘Alamin’";
without mentioning omitting the Basmala (Bukhari, 1.189), and Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud relate no other version. Scholars point out, in this connection, that the words "al-Hamdu li Llahi Rabbi l-‘Alamin" were in fact the name of the Fatiha, for the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) and his Companions often used the opening words of suras as names for them; for example, in the hadith in Sahih al-Bukhari of Abu Sa‘id ibn al-Mu‘alla, who relates that the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said:

"I will teach you a sura that is the greatest sura of the Qur’an before you leave the mosque." Then he took my hand, and when he was going out, I said to him, "Didn’t you say, ‘I will teach you a sura that is the greatest sura of the Qur’an before you leave the mosque’?" And he said: "‘Al-Hamdu li Llahi Rabbi l-‘Alamin’: it is the Seven Oft-Recited [Verses] (al-Sab‘ al-Mathani) and the Tremendous Recital (al-Qur’an al-‘Adhim) that I have been given" (ibid., 6.20–21).

In this hadith,
"Al-Hamdu li Llahi Rabbi l-‘Alamin" is plainly the name of the Fatiha, and means nothing besides, for otherwise, it is one verse, not seven. ‘A'isha, who was one of the ulama of the Sahaba, also referred to names of suras in this way, as in the hadith of Bukhari that the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace), when he went to bed each night, joined his hands together, blew a light spray of saliva upon them, and read over them "Qul huwa Llahu Ahad," "Qul a‘udhu bi Rabbi l-Falaq," and "Qul a‘udhu bi Rabbi n-Nas"; then wiped every part of his body he could with them (ibid., 233–34), which clearly shows that she named the suras by their opening words (after the Basmala), as did other early Muslims (such as Bukhari in his chapter headings in the section of his Sahih on the Virtues of the Qur’an, for example).

Hadith scholars who are masters of textual critique, like Daraqutni and others, consider the words of the Anas hadith"not mentioning ‘Bismi Llahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim,’" which outwardly seem to suggest omitting the Basmala, to be vitiated by an ‘illa or "hidden flaw" for many reasons, a few of which are:

—It is established by numerous intersubstantiative channels of transmission (tawatur), that the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, "There is no prayer for whoever does not recite the Fatiha" (Bukhari, 1.192).
That the Basmala is the Fatiha’s first verse is shown by several facts:

First, the Sahaba affirmed nothing in the collation of the Qur’an (mushaf) of ‘Uthman’s time except what was Qur’an,
and they unanimously placed the Basmala at the beginning of every sura except surat al-Tawba.

Third, Umm Salama relates: "The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) used to recite: ‘Bismi Llahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim. al-Hamdu li Llahi Rabbi l-‘Alamin,’ separating each phrase"; a hadith which Hakim said was rigorously authenticated (sahih) according to the conditions of Bukhari and Muslim, which Imam Dhahabi corroborated (al-Mustadrak, 1.232). Daraqutni also relates from Umm Salama that "the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) when he used to recite the Qur’an would pause in his recital verse by verse: ‘Bismi Llahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim: al-Hamdu li Llahi Rabbi l-‘Alamin: ar-Rahmani r-Rahim: Maliki yawmi d-din.’" Daraqutni said, "Its ascription is rigorously authenticated (sahih); all of its narrators are reliable" (Daraqutni, 1.312–13). These hadiths show that the Basmala was recited aloud by the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) as part of the Fatiha.

Fourth, Bukhari relates in his Sahih that when Anas was asked how the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) used to recite, "he answered: ‘By prolonging [the vowels]’—and then he [Anas] recited
‘Bismi Llahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim,’ prolonging the Bismi Llah, prolonging the r-Rahman, and prolonging the r-Rahim" (Bukhari, 6.241), indicating that Anas regarded this as part of the Prophet’s Qur’an recital and that the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) recited it aloud.

Fifth, Daraqutni has recorded two hadiths, both from Ibn ‘Abbas, and has said about each of them, "This is a rigorously authenticated (sahih) chain of transmission, there is not a weak narrator in it," of which the first is:
"The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) used to recite ‘Bismi Llahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim,’ aloud"; and the second is:

"The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) used to begin the prayer with ‘Bismi Llahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim’" (al-Nawawi: al-Majmu‘, 3.347).

—Imam al-Mawardi summarizes: "Because it is established that it is obligatory to recite the Fatiha in the prayer, and that the Basmala is part of it, the ruling for reciting the Basmala aloud or to oneself must be the same as that of reciting the Fatiha aloud or to oneself" (al-Hawi al-kabir, 2.139).

—Imam Nawawi says: "Concerning reciting ‘Bismi Llahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim’ aloud, we have mentioned that our position is that it is praiseworthy to do so. Wherever one recites the Fatiha and sura aloud,
the ruling for reciting the Basmala aloud is the same as reciting the rest of the Fatiha and sura aloud. This is the position of the majority of the ulama of the Sahaba and those who were taught by them (Tabi‘in) and those after them.

As for the Sahaba who held the Basmala is recited aloud at prayer, the hadith master (hafiz) Abu Bakr al-Khatib reports that they included Abu Bakr, ‘Umar, ‘Uthman, ‘Ali, ‘Ammar ibn Yasir, Ubayy ibn Ka‘b, Ibn ‘Umar, Ibn ‘Abbas, Abu Qatada, Abu Sa‘id, Qays ibn Malik, Abu Hurayra, ‘Abdullah ibn Abi Awfa, Shaddad ibn Aws, ‘Abdullah ibn Ja‘far, Husayn ibn ‘Ali, Mu‘awiya, and the congregation of Emigrants (Muhajirin) and Helpers (Ansar) who were present with Mu‘awiya when he prayed in Medina but did not say the Basmala aloud, and they censured him, so he returned to saying it aloud" (al-Majmu‘, 3.341).

The Kabah--Ali's Birthplace
The Honour Bestowed--Only Upon the
Imam Ali Ibin Abe Taleb [as]
-------

Fatimah Bint Al-Assad

She was heavy with child, was passing by the Holy House of God, The Holy Kabah, on her way to her humble house. When sudden labour pains came upon her. She lent her swollen body. for support on the
Kabah sacred Walls to desperatly steady herself and to wait out, for her pains to subside. But instead the pains increased and she realised that her time for birth was now upon her.

She frantically looked around her and saw the Kabah surrounding was busy with people, all strangers to her, paying their homage around the Holy House of God. Then the thought occurred to her, that she would give birth infront all these strangers. So she looked up and prayed for God to help her in her immeadiate dire need and to save her the embarressment of giving birth to her child infront of all the people.

No sooner had she prayed, the Kabah corner stones began to split apart, and she slipped into Holy House through the sudden opening.

Which closed immeadiatly after her. She suddenly was eneveloped by a tranquil air of peace and purity. Beautiful women all smiling warmly reached out to greet her and led her to a soft bed to lie upon. She must be in Heaven she thought.

The people looked with utmost disbelief and crowded around the
Kaba's corner wall staring at the crack that was still visible where the pregnant women sliped through. For three days and nights Fatimah Bint Al-Assad was within The Kabah Holy walls.

Then on the third day the walls again began to split apart, just as before at the same place where they had split before, and Fatimah appeared through the gap proudly holding a small infant boy in her arms. The Holy Kabah walls once again closed upon itself immeadiately after her.

The people gathered around the mother and child staring in wonderment at what had befalled before them. They questioned her of the miracle they had all just witnessed.

Fatimah told them that in her plight she had prayed and pleaded to God for help and to provide her shelter to give birth to her child. When she saw the walls split apart. She cowered in fear. But four beautifull Ladies within spoke softly to her, and told her not be afraid and that Allah(swt) had heard her prayer and so they invited me in.
She said as soon she entered. The holy walls behind her closed and she was helped by the Ladies in her ordeal and she gave birth to her new born son. Angels handed down to the Ladies water and they cleaned her and her baby and prepared clothes for the small infant. For three days she ate and slept in peace in the presence of the holy Ladies.

At that point Mohammad Al-Ameen (pbuh&) with his two uncles Abu Taleb, Abbass and Hamzah arrived at the scene. Mohammad(pbuh) stood before Fatimah Bint Assad his foster mother and streched out his arms and tooked the small child from her and smiled warmly down at him.

The mother then proudly stated that she would name him Haider meaning 'Lion', but Mohammad(pbuh&hf) instead renamed him as Ali (as). He explained to Fatimah that he was instructed by Allah(swt). A name no one before him had ever been named before, and Fatimah Bint Al-Assad rejoiced and thank Allah(swt) for His true Blessing and help. Till this very day the miracle split of the stone blocks of The Kabah wall is clearly visible.

ALL MUSLIMS HAVE BEEN ASKED TO TURN THEIR FACES TO HZT.  ALI'S PLACE OF BIRTH VIZ., MASJIDIL HARAAM

THE QUR'ANIC QIBLAH

MASJIDIL HARAAM

MAKE YOUR DWELLINGS INTO PLACES OF WORSHIP -- 'QIBLATANWA'

7:29. Say: My Lord enjoineth justice. And SET YOUR FACE UPRIGHT at every place of worship--WA AQIIMUU WUJUU-HAKUM INDA KULLI MAAS-JIDIN -- and call upon Him, making religion pure for Him (only). As He brought you into being, so return ye.

10:87. We inspired Moses and his brother with this Message: "Provide dwellings for your people in Egypt, MAKE YOUR DWELLINGS INTO PLACES OF WORSHIP -- BUYOOTAKUM QIBLATAN, and establish regular prayers: and give glad tidings to those who believe!" Yusuf Ali's Quran Translation -- 87. Waawhayna ila moosa waakheehi an ttabawwaa liqawmikuma bimisra buyootan waijAAaloo BUYOOTAKUM QIBLATAN waaqeemoo alssalata wabashshiri almu/mineena
