26th Jan
Happy moo moo year! It's a long holiday and I really had a lot a lot of rest. Yet no time to blog haha, so sorry for that. Friday I met up with tekko for lunch and then met up with Justin and Zicheng for dinner. Walk walk around sim lim and took a look at those mini laptops and Mac... i think I've decided that I'll get the new upgraded white macbook once there's student deals for it in school.

Then the horrendous bugis street, cos zicheng wanted to shop for clothes. omg, utterly crowded. let's start with the traffic light, infamous for its high density and sardine-packed isle in the middle of the road. seriously, i think must wait until someone die or get knocked over by car den something will be done... it's so preposterous! then bugis street, really cannot compare to Shi Lin or Chatuchak or Temple St in other countries. Why no air con~ the most common complain... it's really so squeezy and packed and the walk way is sooo small. Other countries, they have a whole road lane for people to walk and shop, this one is hot, sweating, squeezy... where got mood to shop?! worse still, the clothes are not really that cheap, it's over priced. One t shirt there at least $12 where you can get half the price in HK or taiwan or bangkok. quality oso not very good, no guarantee... Cotton on also cheaper lo. Maybe it's just me, i simply dun like bugis street. Far east, queensway and those neighbourhood also better lo. Then again, I hardly buy clothes in Singapore... zicheng say I only boost other people's economy and not Singapore's. lolx. but really ma, it's like once u use broadband, you cannot use back 56k le... once i shop at taiwan and thailand etc.. cannot tolerate the terrible standard in sg. I'm not even talking about customer service also... even when those big shops like Levi's go on sale...omg the queue for dressing room is so long and the shop keepers gets so busy.

Anyway, yesterday I just bo liao and went to check out some scholarships, just anyhow apply even though with my results is really no chance of getting any. The chance of poly students getting scholarship is really little le, so comparing with other poly students is also hard lo. So one of the question was "What values or beliefs do you hold strongly to? Please give examples of your actions" So here's the entire essay which I just did impromptu.

[Sui Generis]
"One of a kind" (latin)
I have this on my MSN nickname as I am convinced that each person is born and made to be exclusive, with his own strengths and weaknesses. It was a lonesome and precarious choice to opt for a polytechnic education instead of staying at VJC. Nevertheless I stood for my dreams to delve into the media industry and started gaining experience. What was the point of studying physics if I already knew what I wanted? That point onwards, I knew I had to be different, to have my own competitive advantage, to be Sui
Generis.

One of my Chinese Orchestra members was so stressed out that she broke down and cry few weeks before our music competition at the Sydney Opera House. I consoled her and reminded her that only she had the expertise to draw out the melodious tones from the percussion instrument. No other member can replace her and hence they do not have any right to give her any pressure. She should only play to her own expectations and to her best abilities. Subsequently when I felt stressed out, I told myself the same thing. True enough, we played to a standing ovation and attained the highest score in the history of the competition. However, the process, where we encouraged each other to persevere and strive for our own strengths, was priceless.

Besides self-actualization, I believe that one should also embrace the plethora of personalities we encounter everyday. Coming from a Special stream secondary education, I was perturbed to do project work with friends who may be less academically inclined or have a poorer command of English etc. What may seem easy to me, required more time for some. Gradually, I embraced the perspective that each person is unique. In my project team, each member would specialise in his area of expertise - PowerPoint, accounts, research etc. I would not have become the top student without their superb talents.

When I was selected by the MDA to represent Singapore for the ASEAN Campus Journalist program, I toured Laos, Thailand and Myanmar. Despite being economically poor, I saw smiles and happy faces on kids in Myanmar; the Thais' reverence for their King; Lao's extensive conservation policies for its culture and heritage sites like Luang Prabang. So many things that Singapore could learn from. After interactions with delegates from Communist Vietnam, Muslim-dominated Indonesia, many stereotypes and perceptions were broken. Each society has its own rules, ways of life and culture. I guess that is why the concept of sovereignty exists. No nation is superior to another and we should respect each other.

I always urge people around me to appreciate one another, embrace one's strengths and weaknesses as a distinct persona. One should also develop and be confident of his own strengths and persona, like I do, and strive for excellence and self-actualization. As I have always told myself, "I stand for who I am, I am Sui Generis".

Must thank all those people that I'd mentioned. NYPCO, firewire, Asean ppl ... 500 words only didn't mention cat high but it played a big part too. As most of you should know, I'll be flying off at 8pm tomorrow to NZ, be back on the 13 Feb. I have roaming but it's very expensive! 60c per sms... hopefully i can have net access there. Till then~

Oh and I WANT TO LEARN SHIMASEN! Just watch this, totally brilliant!

22nd Jan
One has to wonder why a blog with standard English would deter netizens and requires the need of a dictionary. My English is quite haiz, was doing some of the SATs questions that day and a lot a lot of mistakes and errors especially the comprehension, freaking difficult. arghz! i dun hav the discipline to type in proper english oso, haha.

wa today woke up at 12pm ... first time sleep until so shuang, been so long. then just slack at home, surf net, listen music, youtubing. Afternoon i accompanied my mum go to supermarket and buy all those cny tidbits. Lunch was porridge with bak kwa... dinner was rice with fish, veggie and BAK KWA! lolx... i think tomorrow morning breakfast is going to be bak kwa sandwich, o.0 haha.
I'm done with New Moon, waiting for the atom version of Eclipse to come out. So I probably need to find another book to feast on while I'm in NZ if the book is still not out this weekend. Borders and Harris!!! Here i come.... haha. am i getting addicted to reading or what? last time i dun read books de lo (contrary to what most people think, yes i dun read last time de... the whole secondary school time i only read harry potter k!) actually now a LOT of books i wanna read like Kite Runner, Jodi Piccoult, Josh Grisham, James Patterson, Stephan King, George Orwell's 1984, Charles Dickens, Yakuza Moon, Diary of Anne Frank, Jane Austen's etc etc. Tooo many to name le.

Wanted to set up an UOB account and get the debit card but realize that the campus card requires a full time degree course... ie. a matriculation card i suppose which i dun have yet~ wait lo... the reason I want UOB is because sometimes the queue for posb atm is really sooo long! went to enquire about pay as you roam M1 service and my service plan, it's over 2 year old liaoz and I'm still using. which means I can change a plan le, muahaha. new phone should let my brother choose and take bah, cos that time i use his contract to get myself a phone. Then my 2nd line is going to end soon, haha. ok i know u're getting confused, even i am confused...u see... my dad has a Starhub plan with a Nokia phone. I started mine with a m1 plan and a Sony Eric phone. When I continued my plan, my dad took a samsung phone. My brother signed under my dad's name for a Singtel plan and he took a Sony Eric. Then later my dad wanted a nokia phone and he ... haix i also dunno why, use my brother's name (after he turned 18) to sign up for a plan and took a nokia. So now ... 3 persons with 4 plans! Seeing that there's an extra line I just took the extra plan to use, and then i have my own non-camera phones which i've bought over the 2 years. CONFUSING RIGHT?! this goes to explain why Singapore has one of the highest users of handphones at 130%! meaning there are more phones and the human population ie every 10 person there's 13 phones! I'm one of the contributor because I have 3 phones ... 2 non camera which I use in camp and 1 camera which i use during weekends, haha! this is call doing my part for singapore k, haha.

Same as last christmas when I was singing CNY songs during that period, i'm listening to Come What May and other moulin rouge love songs! valentine's day~ Today i heard a terrible version of CNY song... the 'Cai Shen Dao' song became - "Look who's here! Look who's here! God of fortune is now right here!" omg~ what a terrible translation! Might as well i sing "You better watch out, you better not cry and i'm telling you why, god of fortune's coming to town". i think only in sg can have this kind of terrible songs arh.

Someone told me how he woke up in the morning in Alaska to see the Aurora Borealis (if u still dunno what's that, just scroll up and look at the beautiful sky!) and there are soo many nice things in the world that i wanna see, here's to name a few: Great wall of China, Sakura blossom, Michealangelo's David, Snow !!!!, Great Barrier Reefs, Swiss Alps, Old Faithful (geyser), Grand canyon, Niagara's falls, Mona Lisa, Taj Mahal, Vetican City etc etc. life is too short to cover all these great sights and art works.

Waaaa freak i never save and my com hanged! arghz. jia lat arh, ok summarise. went to watch Rachel getting married with xiao pang and it's NOT a comedy at all. rather, it depicts a drug addict Kim (anne hathaway) trying to adapt to her family as her elder sister (a PhD in psychologist) Rachel gets married. Rachel initially didn't want her to be the maid of honor, thinks that she's a disgrace to the family etc etc cos Kim is in rehab. Later it revealed that Kim actually killed their baby brother long time ago when she was driving and because she was on drugs, she crashed in a car accident leaving her baby brother dead but she alive. It's pretty much a real life struggle of a drug addict, trying to make amends and overcome herself. quite touching la and anne hathaway acted quite well. It's a small budget independent film like - think Juno. So i guess most people won't like it, it's just a 'xiao ping'.

After that went for Jap class where my sensei said she went to chinatown last monday and there was fireworks. we were like "fireworks? you mean firecrackers?" but she had no idea what's a firecracker. So i went to the board to draw cylindrical shapes things on a rope, like firecrackers. den she say "Chinese sausage?!?!" or known to us as la chang.... er... NO! lolx. it's not edible... i guess she think crackers are biscuits~ ahhh, and she still say i draw well o.0 no it's not edible!!! haha. funny.

Japanese we start to learn about verbs and some of them are very hokkien like San Bo shimasu means taking a walk. So i've come up with my own lingo such as Hao Lian shimasu or Li gong xi mi desu (what you talking?) lolx. daniel poh say i corrupt his japanese sia. im gonna miss the next 2 lessons which will be very hard to catch up cos its a new concept Te-form! ahhh... ok my teacher say japanese has lesser forms than english, she says english is terrible. haha got so many forms like present tense, past tense, future tense, past participle etc etc. Drink drank drunk drinking drunken etc. haha so funny la she.

After that went to meet up with lixin and angeline for dinner at bishan. wanted to go eat Kim San Leng chicken rice but the queue is super duper long. I queue for 5 min but it never move at all, cos the 20+ people in front of me like order whole chickens for da bao or wat de... madness. after that i just settle for yukee duck rice which isn't that bad too. Went to play arcade at amk where xin and i are addicted into this Xi You Ji game where you control sunwukong, tang shang zhang etc and try to fight monsters, very funny de. omy, im soo tired... it's 1.30am soon, yawnz! this post had to be shorter abit le, no choice.

The short excerpt of Cao Cao's poem in Red Cliff 2 - which I'm NOT watching. Read from the newspaper that Zhou Yu use Mei Ren Ji on Cao cao instead of Ku Rou Ji and Cao cao met Zhou Yu and even had a big battle with him after retreating from Ci Bi. He's suppose to meet Guan Yu and Guan Yu was suppose to let him escape, defying Zhuge Liang's instruction in the pouch (jing nang miao ji). huh?! Just to give them more screen time and mislead the audience and the Americans to think that the story is different. What kind of San Guo Yan Yi is this?!?!

Sunday went to sing K with Joyce Li Xin Angeline Chin Teck and then went to KFC. The Little Nyonya de MV - Ru Yan is out in party world and we sang it as the first song haha. The MV quite nice la, depicts and trunscate the whole show into a music video. Don't think I'll get to sing K until after I come back from NZ bah. Wednesday went to CO and glad to see everyone still the same but i hope its not deja vu. Reminded me of Jan 9th, the day before I fly off to Thailand last year where David was just sitting beside me just like any other practice. This year I'll be away again and I won't be in Singapore for his anniversary... i really hope i don't receive any phone call like last year, choi choi! 2009 will be a good year, everything seems so good so far. All you guys take care while I'm away k, then I come back can have a nice birthday to wash away all the terrible memories.

Release of O level results brought joy to Cat High as the students make up a third of the top scorers. Well technically 9 A1s isn't a lot compared to last time where the top scorers are 10 A1s. O level is deflated because of the various IP schools... but still happy for them... SYF is only 3 months away, hopefully long lao shi is taking care of the students. I'll definitely make my way down to SCH and show my support for Long lao shi. I haven been back to school since enlistment lahx! haix... one day must find justin they all and go back and see how much it has changed. oh and hak boon is still there... arghz! how annoying.

Wednesday went back for CO... almost 1.5 week never touch my instrument le and oh no, I forgot so much of my Tian Wang! So long never touch the di guan already. Jiang Jun Ling is not really that difficult for us but we've already decided to name our concert - Chui si suona da he zhou (blow suona until die symphony) because there's TAI YANG, Jiang Jun Ling and possibly other big traditional pieces that'll kill us all. It's time for suggestion again and I'm hoping Mike will choose Fen Yong Qian Jing!!! Been asking for that song since year one but when I suggested it then, Mike say we're not there yet. Er Hu teacher say "If you want me to quit, just say, no need to 'hai' me like that!" haha but on Wednesday Mike said "That's a good idea!" muahaha. goes to show how much we've improved. quite glad to see a healthy number of students at CO despite the fact that it's after open house and nearing the exams. While they're having exams, I'll be at NZ and then I'll be back in time where they have holidays and we can start to prac for club crawl and July de Esplanade performance. Planning my leave days so that i can go back for SYF and my 6th Club Crawl, haha. April sure very very busy, i'm STILL thinking if i should start school in May so that I can study a business minor. Nobody can help me make that decision leh... haix.

Oh and my blogs are getting longer because I need to prepare and get use to typing long long essays le... haha! But this is still not standard English lah, how? You all want to read Standard Ang moh?!?!

11th Jan - Random Rant
Even though I'm not an advocator of war, I'm standing on Israel's side on this on-going war, along with Ehud Barak and Tzipi Livni. The Hamas are clearly holding its own people at ransom and appealling for world's sympathy by putting the pressure on Israel. What most people failed to remember is that it was the Hamas who started firing those rockets over into Israel after the Dec 19 expiry date of the ceasefire. Israel only started attacking after one of its citizens was killed in the attack, having tolerated days of bombardment.

Now it may seem that Israel is acting out of proportion and bullying the smaller population in Gaza by killing far more civilians, who then can justify for the loss of the Isreali civilian. To what extend should the Israeli government had tolerated before using its military power, when diplomacy with the Hamas had failed. History had also repeated itself when the Palestinians failed to seize several opportunities for a long term resolvement, such as at Camp David 2000. The death of Yassar Arafat did not seem to put the wrong right again. Further more, the conflict between the Hamas and Fatah itself makes diplomacy even more difficult. The prime minister Mahmoud Abbas from the Fatah is effectively handicapped because the Hamas now hold a majority in the Palestinian Authority.

I must reiterate that war is never the solution to solving ethnic conflicts as history has revealed through time all over the world. Nevertheless the pressure should have been on the Hamas instead of the Israel. The international media had seemed to put the blame on Israel more than the Hamas. While the United Nations stated that they condemned the war and wanted both sides to stop and call for a ceasefire immediately, visual images and news reports repeatedly featured the destruction in the Gaza strip more so than the ones in Israel. Moreover, a new dimension of Youtube has been added to this war - the war for sympathy, when the Hamas put up clips of its civilians being killed and injured after the Israel's bombing onto Youtube. While at the end of the day, Israel may have wiped out most of the Hamas' operational headquarters and dispersed or eliminated some of its members, it has lost the support of the world - and THAT is exactly what the Hamas wants.  Israel made the mistake once in 2006 with the Hizbulleh and now again, Israel is fighting the wrong war and the Hamas are one up. Victory no longer belongs to the one with more rocket fires, it now belongs to the one who can evoke sympathy and support by leveraging on the media sources - the news reports, the internet, the video clips.

10th Jan
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my junior Justin! Also, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my brother tomorrow. Both of them are just one day apart and sometimes even I get mixed up over their birthdays, lolx. I went down to NYP open house with my brother because he's thinking of the design courses there. Firstly I must say the design school's open house area is really quite poorly done and it's so isolated and ulu that they might as well not have it cos its so cost ineffective. My brother was looking for interactive design and there was no lecturer there, the students from the course were year ones who had not went into the specialization of the course, so they couldn't give much information either. Worst, they keep bugging us to go for a 'tour' when all I want is that particular course and more info about the course!

Bad experience aside, all the students and lecturers kept asking me "So you just finished your O levels?" whoahaha. Now I still look 16 eh? The irony is they kept asking me instead of my brother. Then we finally found this interactive design lecturer and we sat at the table with her. She kept talking about the course to ME and I just look at my brother. Later on my brother asked some questions and she asked him, if he just took O level also. He replied that he's doing ITE now, then the lecturer asked me if I'm from ITE also. I said "No, I graduated as the first batch of Media Studies." She couldn't understand what I said the first time, I repeated myself again and she look so stunned. Then I put in the punch line "This is my younger brother" and she was completely puzzled! LOL "Oh! Okay... I thought you two were friends, you look like friends" diaoz. haha. Then we spoke with the broadcast design lecturer and he talked about the course, making motion graphics on television and all and he mentioned how video editing and filming are just boring stuff. Errr~! HELLO! I'm doing media studies you know! lolx.
Rushed down for Japanese lesson and this is my 2nd last one before the NZ trip where I won't be able to attend class for 3 weeks. Sure going to forget a lot of things when I come back, so I'm hoping to get a good workbook or exercise to practice while I'm there. My sensei funny today, she was talking about CNY goodies that she sent to her family each year like pineapple tarts, bak kwa (which her mother dislike, much to her amazement because she also find bak kwa nice) love letters etc. So she was asking for suggestion and I told her the 'in' thing now is nonya kueh. She asked if it's cake, we say it isn't really the cake she have in mind. Then we told her kueh lapis, with many layers of colours and she thinks is jelly agar agar. Very hard to tell her what is nonya kueh cos she haven't seen it either also.

She mentioned about the days when she just came to Singapore and saw the 'Fu' sign hung upside down and she tried to correct it but the security guard says it's correct. Then she bought a lot of CNY decorations to decorate her house, so she bought a lot of red things until her neighbour came to ask "Who is getting married?" because she bought the double 'Xi' word people use for wedding. OMG I was laughing so hard!
Later I went to meet li xin and angeline and had korean steamboat at bugis, it is really darn good and I love it so much. Today the seafood, not as nice as the kimchi soup de. You know I've always been wanting to buy a whole tub of kimchi so I can eat at home for dinner or just watch tv and eat it like tidbits, haha. it's so nice lah! After that we went to eat dessert and the yam paste was pretty good but the black sesame is very watering, the shop is just beside the mario's kithen which is the korean restaurant. After that we went to Suntec to play arcade and I won Li Xin in tekken and Angeline is the best overall champion. I'm not really a fan of tekken la. Then we sat down at a Starbucks and I think it's a new one because it's at tower 3 which is the one with Adidas and Nike. This makes suntec soooo amazing in my opinion because now there's FOUR starbucks in suntec. One at the main entrance besides balaclava, one at level 2 inside harvey norman there, one at tower four beside carrefour and one behind Nike. Add in the one at marina square, city hall and all... wa... really a lot of starbucks. And I haven include Gloria Jeans, Coffee Bean etc etc. Starbucks really good business hor! Lixin and I came up with this idea of International Dessert buffet where you just eat desserts like tapioca with coconut cream (thailand), japanese dessert anmitsu etc etc... quite cool right. but the baker will die cost of the cake really a lot. Other than the yam paste, the blacksesame is black! So that's about all...

9th Jan
My brother, Weilin, Li Xin, Max, Ying Cong and had our dinner at Dhobby Exchange 'Just Acia' for dinner which is an open concept fast food restaurant with free flow drinks and ice cream. Food is not fantastic but the place is usually empty and a better alternative than the crowded Plaza Singapura. Subsequently we took bus 16 to Stadium area and saw a long queue outside Stadium Green. Stadium Green is this new patch of grass between Indoor Stadium and the Oasis Restaurant. It's suppose to fill 6000 people and the location is really scenic. Next to the Kallang river, you can see the iridescence of the Singapore Flyer, Sheares bridge, Suntec across the river. Plus there's the sea breeze which occasionally brings a relief to the heat! Mayday was talking about how hot Singapore is compared to the frost in Taipei where poor Ah Xin had a flu. The idea of a outdoor concert is really cool because everyone together and high together is really just... HIGH. Mayday has set a really high standard with a free concert - giving us a full fledge 2 hour concert (albeit having their shi-mei Ding Dang as special guest to sing 3 songs). I wasn't really expecting a lot from this free concert, especially the stage and I don't expect the opening to be like Taipei's with fireworks and all. I just want music. But the lighting system was really quite good I must say.

So before the concert started, I gave them the lightsticks I bought from KK (tks KK!) and Li Xin spoilt one of it, Ying Cong spoilt one of it, arghz! Blue lightsticks, some people still use electronic but most use blue. I'm so glad to see the sea of blue lighsticks. Since this is a new album promo gig, I was expecting them to sing mostly from the new album and add in one or two old ones. Ying Cong and my brother, being the newbie to Mayday concert and having NOT heard the new album, were worried that they'll be listening to all the new songs. But NO! The opening act was one song from every album! ????,????,????,?????, ??, ??and then finally the 7th Album they sang ????????,?????. All these are just the opening act~! Then they spoke to the crowd and Ah Xin was saying about how he was afraid of singing today because of what happened in Taipei, he really sound terrible there and he was honest about it. I can totally understand him doing it live, even though its almost every week but each time when there are certain difficult parts (just like my guan!) it's the same jitters. Guan You jia you~! He couldn't be here because his father-in-law passed away in Taiwan, so the percussionist was replaced by a look-a-like guy name Ah Gu! He is pretty good but during the solo part and some of the more 'flexible' parts he don't have the mo qi with the rest and he's abit 'out' of rhythm at one particular point. Yes and Ah Xin forgot his lyrics again, and put the mic to the audience during ??! Omg so obvious!!! haha. Then back to the old songs like ???,??? and new songs like  ???. A short interlude by Ding Dang with 'Crazy in love' ?!?! I totally don't get it... suddenly English songs I don't see the point, it was suddenly not high at all. She sang her song Wo bu pa but it was obviously lip-sync because the voice is still there when she put the mic out to the audience. Err... ownself commit suicide! Until the 'Cai bu tou' which is her song then it felt slightly better but she didn't sing Zhou Huo Ru Mo with Ah Xin. -.- dotz! Then Mayday back on stage with super high songs like ?????, ??ingand also the hokkien rock ??! Omg Chin Teck and I were super high when they sang that, making this machiam a real concert. ??(?????),??????never fails to put the emotional touch and the 'JUMPiness' of a real mayday concert. ?? really reminds me of April 26 Down to Earth concert, when I finally realise what the song meant for me. I must say I'm really old, seeing my brother jumping and waving the lightstick, I really tired sia. Few concerts back I could last more than 2 hours, this time 1 hour plus jiu tired and no voice le. Then it was time for ???and I thought that would be the last song as it did in Taiwan because that's the main hit of the new album. He asked if we know how to sing Hokkien and a very small crowd shouted yes! I was hoping for another song though but hearing that it was ???, I was already satisfied with the concert le. But NO! after that they continue to sing many other songs like ????? (which made Li xin and Weilin so exhilerated!) because it was so unexpected. But they sang the 4th hokkien song and that is their very first main hit ????? Chin Teck and I held our hands up high and jumped in excitement! OMG! I totally didn't expect them to really sing it at all.  WAH! I simply pull out every last strength and voice to sing that song. Amazingly my bro also know some parts of that song, haha influenced by me too much. Glad ying cong and him really enjoyed it. In fact, I would rank this better than ?????? concert. Some more is free... now as for the Aug concert, hmm... no $$$ leh.

After the concert immediately took taxi rush back to camp, voice totally gone and totally tired Zzzz. haha. Moreover this week is a full 5 day week, so used to the christmas and new year breaks. Mayday started let me start this year with a bang and I hope to keep this spirit up all the way until I step into NTU.

Yesterday I had dinner with Angeline at Bugis where we sat down at J.CO at Basement 1 and ate gelato and donut. lolx! It's really quite cool and the sofa there is really nice, the only bad thing is the place is really noisy than most cafes because the traffic is always ongoing. First time eating Gelato and it's really quite nice, except that 2 scoop for both of us is really quite a lot because it is less creamy (according to ST health, it's a healthier choice to eat gelato than ice cream) and sometimes it's so hard and dry towards the end. But the donut is pretty good because inside got whip cream or peanut butter, it really comes as a surprise and a nice mixture. We sat there and just relax...hmmm... but we noticed that there were many people who ordered drinks and donuts but never eat the donuts. They were mainly the plain donuts, we wondered if the donuts were given free with the drinks but it seems unlikely leh... the donuts just get left behind.

A lot of things I need to do before CNY and that included meeting up with Justin cos it's his birthday. Sentosa trip with DSC colleagues not confirmed yet, I need to confirm my NTU thing which I haven cos I dunno whether I should take special term or not. No time to consider leh... Must meet up with min sheng or better still the twins together before they fly off. NYPCO lao ren having gathering this sunday yay~ I'm also reading this manga but it's in raw Japanese so it's much tougher to understand and takes painfully long time to read... but it's a good practice for Kanji (ala the Chinese words you see in Japanese text) and let me read things faster also.  and and and... SHOULD I BUY THE MAYDAY CONCERT TICKET?!?! ahhh!

3rd Jan
One day from Mayday Outdoor concert and the weather forecast says that it'll rain with thunder tomorrow afternoon, oh no! I'm already getting ultra 'high' but the idea of having to book in after that totally sucks. arghz! I haven't plan out how to get back to camp from there yet. See how tomorrow bah. Listening to Leona Lewis's RUN on youtube and it's really so much better than that Bleeding Love song which is ostensibly addictive but it reminds me of someone who kept singing it. It's a cover of Snow Patrol's and I think she sings it really well.

Went for Japanese class after a week hiatus, wahhh forget so much le lah. scary. Refresh refresh memory, language is must keep using de so i must keep learning. My sensei really funny lah, she says she don't like wasabi, she prefer local chilli. Compare local laksa and penang laksa, she prefers local laksa. Most of us don't like wasabi also, this classmate name vivian was trying to explain to her how wasabi and chilli are different, even though in english it's hot or spicy (karai) but in Chinese we have 'la' and 'qiang'. So I tried to explain, 'la' spicy means the side of the tongue is spiced up but 'qiang' means the throat area is choked. I try to strangle and hold my neck, showing her what it means. Gonna have to miss two lessons when I'm in New Zealand for my 'work'.

I was reading about this article about clearing your own trays at the food court and bringing your own bag to the supermarket. In Taiwan, they do not even have plastic bags in the supermarket and everyone just brings their own bag. Singapore is sooo far behind in terms of being eco-friendly. Getting Singaporeans to be gracious and eco-friendly is just hard I think, cos it does not pay for them to do so. Usually I ask the cashier not to give me plastic bags if I'm buying small items or bubble tea or using the item immediately. It still doesn't seem 'cool' to pull out your supermarket bag from your bag. IKEA works because the price is lowered when you purchse the product and DIY at home, saving the delivery and packaging cost. That consumer surplus is passed down to consumers. Currently the supermarket sells eco-friendly bags at like $1 and donates a certain amount to some NGOs. If I forget to bring a bag, I wouldn't pay a buck for a bag, the price is exorbitant! If the supermarkets start charging 5cent for each plastic bag given, consumers will complain and no supermarket is willing to take the first step and face the wrath of the aunties and uncles. So I suggest that supermarkets should reward customers if they do not use disposable plastic bags. No, it's not just limited to monetary reward such as 20 cent off each transaction if the customer do not use plastic bags, that is merely one and the most direct way. Supermarkets like to issue cards where customers can collect stickers or 'chops' and gain a freebie or $5 voucher after a number of stickers, like what Shop & Save does. This is the best way to attract the supermarket aunties to do anything (e.g. buying things up to $10 or more, sometimes useless things) and a lot of aunties collect the stickers etc. Telling them to bring their own bag because it saves the environment just doesn't work. Using the sticker method, it'll encourage them to bring their own bag each time and it also cultivates the habit of doing it often. Plus the supermarket can be seen as taking an even more active role in trying to encourage the less usage of bags, which intrinsicaly save costs for them as well.

Similarly for clearing of trays and plates, now you only need one person at the tray station to issue out coupons or stamps. Other promotions can be tied in to kill two birds with a stone. However, I'm not saying that everyone will be attracted by the coupons or freebies but as long as we can get a small but significant group of people to start the movement, others will soon follow. Most Singaopreans have the herd mentality and if the supermarket aunties bring their own bag, the young ones would feel obliged to follow. (eh, aunty also save environment, you're young and educated dunno how to do your part is it?) Seriously, it's still awkward to bring your own tray to the tray station but if there's a reward, why not? Now, should I write a letter to the forums or post this suggestion on Stomp? hehee.

Random Rant - 2nd Jan
Blogging is addictive, especially today. Heh.

I've been received unsolicited SMSes from Singtel and only Singtel. M1 do not disturb me with such annoying features. <SINGTEL ADV> is sent to my phone and it says that I have to reply UNSUB to the number. Point is, I HAD replied once to the ringtones feature and now I'm receiving another? I'm seriously disgusted with such opt-out marketing and they should be banned. My workplace has this insurance that automatically gives everyone insurance at a cost of $12.80 per month, as reported in the news. So in order to NOT have the cost deducted, I have to retrieve a form and sign and return it, which is a real hassle. So if every company out there charges me money for something I've not asked for, I have to spend all my time trying to opt-out of every scheme? Moreover, we were only given less than a week to submit the forms and those who are overseas or having training elsewhere during this period, they're automatically in this scheme and $12.80 deducted off their pay. How is that fair?

Simple contract law tells you that you need to have an offer communicated, considerations and acceptance. Sometimes the offer is not communicated effectively and in this case, not at all to some of those who are overseas or at training. They are automatically assumed to accept the contract and made to pay the amount every month. If nobody inform them or say anything, they may not even know they're in the scheme. I can agree with the HOTA system, where all our organs can be used for transplant once we die of unnatural death, as it is for a good cause and there would definitely be a greater shortage if not for the system. However, when you have opt-in system merely for profit, it is a huge hassle and totally unfair.

Yesterday I went cycling with my sec 2 classmates, danielpoh joeltoh sweekuan damon boyang bertinus lip yong so there were 8 of us. Andrew woke up late, fly aeroplane -.- and Joel Toh told me 11.30am online BAH! Haven met up with them since August. That sounds quite recent heh. So we ate at Changi V hawker ctr and Damon and I introduce them to the infamous RTL special which only the army people would know - Red Tea Longan with Aloe Vera, can only be found at Changi V.

The Changi jetty is renovated and it's very much like entering a tourist attraction, where you have to walk down a flight of stairs into this hall. They even have ARRIVAL and DEPARTURE hall now, with immigration and the scanning machine and all. I guess now they have to do that cos they provide service to some part of JB. The whole jetty now looks petty good now and reminded me of Hong Kong de jetty althought the one there is much bigger and advance. They use mrt tap card system. I was expecting to see a similar one here but nahh, the uncle just collect $2.50 from each of us. 25% inflation!!! The last time we went to Ubin, with almost the same people, was only $2.

I guess maybe we're old le, cycling now really exhausting leh. Last time can cycle around no problem, yesterday everyone just shag sia, especially upslope. Maybe is the bicycle, maybe is we're old liaoz. There's this part of Ubin that's renovated and because so park like, the last time we went was all sand only. It was very crowded on the island, omg.. public holiday mah. Damon met his friend, Daniel met his NTU friend. Bully me loh, all NTU de except bert (NUS law) and lip yong who's studying to be a doctor at Perth. Then it started raining, on and off. We reached this little stall that sells coconut and settled in to drink. Sweekuan started talking to this Korean lady in korean, bahaha. all that he learnt from those korean drama. Then bert was overhearing this French family, we ask him to translate. Daniel Damon and I just talk to each other in Japanese... lolx. Mini UN in the stall liaoz. Then lip yong was talking about this french singer very beautiful... we all dunno, den suddenly Daniel says he knows. We all so stunned, then joel toh say he's Women-pedia. omg that was so frickkin funny.

Joel and his chek jawa... it was raining so heavily and we rode to chek jawa, very far away. it's renovated, there's the trail walk and it's pretty ok, overlooking the sea but bleahx, on the other side of the sea is Changi and the other side is Tekong. yuck. Totally spoil the view. It was high tide so we couldn't explore the swampy area. Back at the ubin jetty, joel toh played with hermit crabs and he specially brought along wooden chopsticks to pick them up and play with them, lolx. No wonder he was so insistant to go chek jawa. While taking photo on the rocks, it was so slippery that sweekuan fell down. At first we thought it was all fine until his feet was soaked with blood, really a lot a lot of blood. Two guys immediately carry him to the toilet and wash. Luckily got the doctor and medics. The toilet at ubin, water is not clean... so we took the boat back to changi and asked for first aid box. Half the stuff inside are expired! Bert wrapped his feet with bandage and all, lip yong was talking about the scientific terms or blood cells stuff which I have no idea, lolx. Okay my job is just to use the camera and take pictures?! haha. I took just one.

Then dinner at Changi V again and Damon queued for the nasi lemak, took about an hour for him to queue for a plate of nasi lemak, madness! Bertinus was eating maggie goreng and having sugar cane. Later he ordered carrot cake and he was tempted to have another cup of sugar cane. Then lip yong asked "Do you have diabetes?" LOL! the 'fun' of sitting at the dining table with a doctor. Then the lawyer argue with the doctor, lolx. funny lah, but very tiring day.

Today woke up and reached NYP at 8.30 for the greenridge secondary school de performance. It's under renovation but the music room is situated at level 4! madness, luckily had mano and his men to move the instruments. Level 3 had 4 computer labs, why need so many sia? the music room is HUGE! made up of 4 classrooms size. acoustic wise is wahhh, like got 30 er hu playing even though there's only about 15? It felt like playing for the teachers to preview before SYF, haha. This time is for the sec 1s orientation, Mike going to set up a new orchestra at Greenridge so must attract students and more importantly the parents. I can't believe sec 1 orientation parents will accompany de loh! In December there's the sec 1 posting mah, where they would already have been to the school once. How to do orientation with parents around... i mean, how to play the games and bond as a class and all? Not primary 1 leh... oh my tian. so i guess the parents will also help them decide CCA? which I think most do nowadays. We played ultraman and beatles, which i really felt is targetted at the parents more than the students. haix. Where's the freedom of choice?!

Beatles the solo had to stand up worr! arhhh missed out the highest note but just cover it up, hehe. Hope those parents never realize. The sec 1 cohort looks very small, 8 classes should be quite big leh. I guess nowadays the class size is smaller for quality education. The school already has a band and now setting up CO... aiyo~ sure rivalry again. But I kinda enjoy this performance cos it's in the morning, everyone is more fresh and we can hear each other better in the small room. The sound is overwhelming and I hope those kids enjoy it., thought I believe some would find it boring. Heard from weilin that she is organzing orientation for hwa cheong IP program and I guess it should be really fun for the guys.

I remember my sec 1 orientation, getting to know Jasper and Swee Kuan cos their names stood out. Played quite a lot of games and then learning to sing songs and the school song. Late for TGoh's science lab and kena 'dropped' for the first time, in sci lab lo, so squeezy leh. Audition for choir, everyone had to go through. First is by Dennis leong and then second by Nelson Quey... Other than Jasper, I also got selected for choir lo but I only went for one session. Swee kuan, boyang, jeremy (after quitting npcc), andrew, alaric and I joined band. Dennis, tim, gilbert are in scouts. JoelToh first played suona, then join weijun, aloy in nccair. keith in nccland. poh shin damon daniel yi jun in npcc. bert melvin hinyeung in st johns. yanhan junkiat in table tennis, aikthong in debates. daryl and mel are in drama in sec 2 i rmb, sweekuan joined in also. Joseph in chess club. who else arh? any 2-7 readers pls refresh my memory. sec 2, jeremy sabo me and put my name up for monitor! >.<  I can also clearly remember the first day drawing lots and sitting beside minsheng at sec 3 then kena appointed as monitor againz! sec 4 i remember the first day, bert and minzheng draw the lots and sit beside each other again. minsheng drew a seat behind mine but he sat with me most of the time. Poly first day was getting admin card and forming the group SPRINT. my memory quite good hor. hehee.

Yah I love blue so much better, thanks for the compliments! And you know what, I've been blogging since 3pm! Hahaha, slow rite. That's because I'm multi tasking and doing so many things at once, uploading photos and typing my dad's quotation and all. I'm watching the Youtube Symphony but performed by HKCO. Amazing!

Some pictures from Maxine's party - She's the greek goddess while we're the gossip girls and scandalous boys.

1st Jan
It's finally 2009! Besides my birthday and the HK trip, everything else that happened in 2008 were just episodes of horrendous nightmares. Plus there was the beautiful disaster which I always wonder if my blog is still being read ... but I highly doubt so. Also the loss of David and Ruixiang, the mumbai attacks, the financial crisis. Nevertheless it was peppered with little sparkles like the Olympics and F1... looking back I have changed a lot but I'm going to figure a way to change myself back and be happy as I would be, as if 2008 never happened. Okay enough about 2008

Just attended Maxine's 21st birthday party at Mt Faber point. Really cool place with great sceneries but the location is a inconvenient without cars. The worse is that the roads are closed after 10pm and I have no idea why they do that. Maxine had Timbre catering and DJ to fill the place with food, booze and music. The view from the top of the hill is breathetaking and I think booking the place is really cheap, from National Parks. But there's no light so she had to get Timbre to set up light and dry ice and all... well it's all her job of being an event organizor at Timbre anyway.

Theme was Gossip girls and Scandalous boys, haha. I had no idea how to dress as scandalous boys -.- Syaz did a good job by wearing a sleeveless shirt and using waterproof markets to draw a heart and the words 'I love maxine' which looks kinda like a tattoo. KK was the photographer and he was so stressed because of the poor lighting of that place. haha. But I think the images should turn out fine. Eve was wearing a dress, Teckie was feminine and Gon gon just ended her work. We were betting if gon gon would sing the ponyo song but she didn't, so syaz prompted her to. Basically all the firewire members except Rachel were there, which made it disappointing cos we couldn't do the group shot for the calendar and it's already 2009! argh! She's with the Lord!

I've updated the wishlist - a little resolution for 2009. Be a better, confident person who's passionate about the things I do. Wish list wise - Watch Mayday concert! heee! Hopefully my trip to New Zealand will be fruitful, then ORD in peace. Continue to do well for my Japanese, hopefully I can take up a business minor at NTU on top of the marketing and mass comm modules. Do well for my exams, hopefully at least  at a 2nd upper. Then there's the esplanade and SCH performance. There's Kelly Clarkson new album, Harry Potter movie. I hope to watch a musical at the esplanade. If possible get a macbook with firewire~ Apple please have a macbook with firewire.
