28th Dec
No idea why I missed out the alarm but I couldn't wake up and i was late to meet li xin today, suppose to meet at mrt at 5.30am, she say she gonna blacklist me soon, haha. So i took the 3rd earliest train instead of the earliest one, kinda scared cannot get tickets but hehee, lucky we're still within the first hundred. Some people even had sleeping bags and camped there lah. Central at clarke quay is really a terrible place, not just the location but also the building design - no air con in the morning and afternoon the sun shines through the glass ceiling and create green house warmth... Add in the number of people and it's freaking hot.

Pity those who came after about 8.30, had to queue outside which is really really hot and really under the direct sunlight, while we sit inside the aircon start to cool the heat down abit but still hot. Outside the queue is omgz! next sunday i think gonna have to go there early and camp for a good spot le. I reach there with xin already about 80th-100th liaoz, so imagine the crowd on next sunday. Time passed rather quickly but li xin forgot to bring her NDS, haha. of all things to forget. Teckie brought and we played this very fun game. Bought subway as breakfast and the drink can refill for just 50c! haha, so we refilled twice, quite worth it.

Later weilin join in after she went temple, and the staff started briefing about the procedure and i must say it's quite orderly, except that why should we even QUEUE for a ticket for a concert. In taiwan, they just put the ticket IN the CD and go there directly on that day, now we have to queue again or chop seats early next week. Now they come up with weirder stunts that next week can pre-order tickets and then in May you must go queue at sistic Indoor Stadium de only, to choose your seats. The normal sales will start in June... the concert is on Aug 29. So if im really a hardcore fan, i'm only given a week to raise $178 for the ticket and have to queue in May! stupid rite? Good marketing is about making it easy for your consumers and keeping them loyal. This is such a big hassle! not to mention the previous time what a big screwup it was, to have sales on level 1 at IMM and sistic just couldn't cope with the numbers. Sistic also la, know that Mayday is tian tuan go on sale, should prepare mah. I remember Jay Chou de oso big screwup, only pre-orders available for OCBC card members and they pretty much just bought up most of the tickets. Hassle. The cheapest ticket is no longer just $68, now is 88 and it goes up in $30 each category until $178... wahhh super ex!

When the staff settle everyone down then they played the CD, muahaha we're just singing away! getting to be more familiar with the lyrics cos the lyrics this time round much harder than previous album... im sure ashin gonna forget lyrics next week, so typical of him, muahaha. Can't wait!!!

Went for CO practice in the morning and the dizi section seniors all MIA, left the juniors and haix, quite bad lah. Something lacking in this orchestra is the passion, the seniors leading the juniors and people putting in the effort to come and practice. I think to many of the current students, this seems like a part-time CCA, come as and when they like or only during performance. Committee also not doing anything, the current orchestra cannot support itself wihout the help of alumni which is really bad. last time where got people miss CO just because of minor test or as and when you like... ask xiao pang huiying. now we graduate le still come more often than the current members lo, what is this man. and yes the pipa section again, one turn up today and sat there half the practice cos she dunno how to play... and it's already AFTER concert and mike pointed it out. Ok at least she's better than the other 3 who didn't even turn up. see le oso irritated arh, this kind of attitude. Tuesday i went for sectional and TAI YANG is really difficult lo, see how this current batch will play this song, with the skills now it'll probably be killed off. I'm already very disappointed that Meng zi Bali is killed off le, it's so nice lo. We shall wait and see...

Went to xiao na house to bao jiao zi! Ok i didn't do much except to cut the watermelon and beat the egg and bao some of the jiao zi. the skill must learn de ok, but this time the venue is much more squeezy so harder to do. xiao na and her room mates doing most of the jobs and they're really good at it, especially one who cooked the guo tie! nice! make your own de really taste different lo. those ugly de, obviously is bao by angeline or me, hahaa. we ate sooo much! buahahaha.

Then xiao na started talking about some of the idiotic or stupid doctors which is very funny. One doctor asked this nurse whether he can administer 24-hours morphin... the nurse blogged about it and the reaction was "Can I say no?" LOL! He is the doctor and he should decide how much morphin to give, the nurse just do her job and administor it, why must he ask the nurse how much to give... prescribing the dosage of medication is the doctor's knowledge and job, that's why it's one of the hardest course to study. She also told us about doctors who're just too busy and so inhuman that they treat patients just... cases, argh. Clearly these are the people who're either forced by their parents to be doctors or study doctor because it has a 'good future good money'. ok maybe im jus biased against doctors cos i had bad encounters with doctors and doctors-to-be. how many actually do it because they want to save people and cure people? it's a highly professional job that requires ethics and respect because of the expertise and the trust patients put on them. So many reports of doctors prescribing anti-biotics irresponsibly etc etc. One even said that doctors in Phillippines, although not as highly educated, will spend the effort to actually find the root of the problem. local doctors just look for symptoms and follow a list of 'textbook' procedures and apply drugs, see the reaction if it helps, if not apply another drug... like troubleshooting a computer hardware problem and it'll be about more than half a year before the real problem is diagnosed. If i ever become a reporter, i'll so publish the names and faces of these irresponsible doctors and those inhuman ones and those that break the trust of others.

Ponyo ponyo ponyo sakana no ko! OMG even my brother is singing the song... ahhh~! it's so stuck in my head right now and arghz help!!! pls dun ask me watch this movie, i'll have nightmare.

Went for dim sum buffet with diya and mab at excelsior hotel and it's pretty decent for $17 after adding gst and service charge and tea. the pepper beef is better than the HK one i must say, haha. other than the usual popular dim sum, there's also the fu pi juan (tofu skin) but it's not as good as HK de lah, overall. The inside is typical retro chinese restaurant which reminds me of HK as well lo. the har gao is just not as good la... but much better than bao luo wan xiang! the price is only for weekdays afternoon 1130 to 2.30pm. Must reserve or else have to share table with others, like what we had to do today. luckily sitting opposite us are also university students so not so awkward la. The service is ok lah, just that they always forget whether they have served the food. weird right, most HK style restaurant would just cancel or cross out the food already served.

Then we passed by this Armenian church and realized that it's built in 1835, the oldest christian church in Singapore. Mab wanna be tourisy so we took a photo with it. Then diya and i took a photo, with mab being the photographer and we had to give her tips and teach her how to take a good photo, haha. This shot on the right is pretty decent although the lighting is quite bad, cos Diya was standing under the shade. Very hot you know~ I was expecting it to rain cos morning very cold!

We took a bus wanting to go Mustafa cos none of us been there. But I think we passed by it le and I don't really know the place, overshot lo! Ahhh!!! So we alighted near Boon Keng station and took the train down to Vivo instead. lolx. KIV the trip to mustafa le. Vivo has this new National Geographic store and inside is really cool machiam museum. But most people just go in to see, not really shop. Maybe the books will be sold. The rest are some furniture, cameras, gore-tex winter jackets, trekking boots, shirts etc. There's this very nice globe thing on the table and it's luminated like a lantern. I was spinning it and then Diya looked at the price tag and told me its $3000 ! I paused there and slowly let go of my hand and stay away from it ... drop it jiu $3k gone!

We went Daiso and Page One... then felt thirsty so Diya said she wanted bubble tea. We search all around vivo and harbourfront centre and could not find any bubble tea shop! So frustrating... then I called Daniel Poh cos he used to work in the management of vivo and he said there's a sweet talk in basement... but close down le!!! ahhh so jia lat, find bubble tea also difficult. We sat down in kopitiam and jus chit chat lo, Mab talking about her customer service job and Diya... told a racist joke~ haha ok i wont post it later i kena catch by police.
Went down to Bugis to pei Jac to sim lim buy her razor mouse. li xin just refuse to come out, lolx. the Albert complex hawker centre move to beside bugis mrt station exit.. but the kway chap is gone! i dunno where to find it, maybe close le. argh. walk walk around sim lim... haix so tempted to get a macbook but there's no firewire port, arghz. how can mac not have firewire i dunno. i'll probably wait for the next generation bah.

And so the lion falls in love with the sheep. Twilight! I just watched the movie yesterday and yes, it's a typical book to screen adaptation so I didn't expect too much. Production and acting wise it's quite bad but it just fills the crave for more things or rather... anything twilight! Some of the shots are just so... awkward! And when Edward bite Bella, the audience actually laughed. And the Edward can't act. The whole show I like Carlisle, he's so much cooler than Edward but the best goes to Alice Cullen, she's totally cool with the outfit, hair and the petite pixie vampire look. Most alike to what i'd have imagined her. They cut away her story of how she became vampire though, awww... it's so sad how she became vampire. Go read the book! Hee.
After movie I went to eat Botak Jones with Li xin and Angeline. It's not as good as before, the onions are really really little compared to the generous servings. I like the cheese potato and coleslaw though. Recession bah, so I have to say I'm disappointed. Then we went to sit at Starbucks, heehee! Angeline gave me a really cute xmas gift which is a post box, inside got sweets and the M&Ms mini! kawaii! domo arigatou. Today is mahjong day and we met li xin's friend Max. He's a pro at mahjong lah, I can tell he's better than me in terms of skills, he play HK style de mah. Encrypt his tiles by mixing them up so others wont be able to see what's on his hands. gao shou~ end up big winner wor. lucky never play money... haha mahjong seems to be our xmas tradition.
My first time watching Little Nyonya and I must say, it's really good and something I think is exportable to overseas. Liu yi dao is really funny and the fight amongst the nyonyas abit War&Beauty-ish (Jing zhi yu nie). Nyonya is something unique to south east asia also, so it's unique. no wonder so many people catching this series.

Sui Generis - I am starting to adore this term increasingly. It means 'One of a kind' in latin and I picked up this word from the book WORD POWER which I have been using to improve my vocabulary. Jac's kind gesture has allowed me to borrow the book for a semester from the NYP library. I must practise using the words and improve my English, hence you would be more likely to encounter a hodgepodge (mixture) of vocabs. Not to worry, I would be typing the synonym beside the word so that it makes reading this blog easier. Having too many 'cheem' words has a propensity (likelihood) to chase my loyal readers away. LOL. However I have to admit that my sentence structures and writing skills are still hovering around secondary school level. Hopefully I would be able to improve incrementally as time goes by.

I'm more than ecstatic to make it for CO camp yesterday. Mike brought his daughter along and she is so cute! But she refused to sing or dance for us...awww! The short presentation of the HK trip brought back the redolent (reminiscent) memories and it seemed so long ago and yet it had been barely three months since we came back. Ying Cong and Taurus went on to 'flaunt' their singing skills with the NYPCO Idol karaoke singing - thanks to the invention of youtube. Subsequently the committee went on to give out tokens of appreciations to the committee members and graduating students (I yelled "Welcome to the family!") and the alumni members. Yes yes, I'm the oldest there and I'm surprised the rest did not participate in this camp. The best part was the gift exchange as expected and the curse of the ER HU section happened again. Li Xin received the ba-gua mirror a long time back, then Gu Jing received the spanner which ying cong bought. This year, Bernice and Jia Wen received the plunge pumper and a watering can. lolx, omg I laughed so hard at the watering can...those big blue plastic ones that you use in gardens for watering plants. Charles and Keith - karma bites back - as everyone failed to draw the lots which allocated their presents. What is that possibility? One in 3000 i guess but it did happen, fated. There was Charles, Keith and Geneviene left and the two presents that C&K bought and another present. Gen drew the other present, leaving C&K to exchange their presents with each other, LOL. What luck! Really freaking funny lah. They bought a broom and a claypot used for boiling medicine.

In terms of organization it is good but towards the end of the day, the members that stayed back are just the alumni, mainly Taurus and Li yi they all. So im kinda disappointed that alot didn't go, cos this CO is not just about the music, the welfare bonding part is important as well... or else we'll just be like the band - a cold unfriendly place where people dunno each other and just play music. very soon it'll collapse... Nevertheless I played charades with Liyi they all and Eunice is really so smart with all the tv dramas. Gen tried to teach us this song Ah whim ah way... it's on her blog you can go listen to it, so funny. Glenn and some of the guys are playing computer games in the other room... err... ok~ generation gap bah. Then late into the night mel xinger and the few of us went to play monopoly, crazy Gen is the 'fu po' wealthy tai tai and she kept giving evil laughters when people lose money or pay rent to her. lolx. amazingly only wan yi and i knows the rules of monopoly, the rest like xing er all deprived childhood, haha. We played all the way until 3.30am lah, about 2 hrs of monopoly amazingly. By then the sports camp people wake up, so early dunno for what and we're all shocked - er... we're just about to go and sleep?! haha and amazingly la cos gen xinger and i all come from work and still can tong until so late. the young ones all sleep liaoz. aiyoz!

After the camp I went for Jap lesson and actually didn't eat lunch! Only bought a packet of sweet potato fries and it's really nice. I'm really lagging behind on Jap and this is just the start of a trecherous journey. i didn't expect it to be this hard, omg. but its fun, so i muz persevere and continue to learn. Been thinking about my NTU studies le cos the letter for special term is here and i'm cracking my brains to figure out if i should take it. It'll help to lighten up my load but really very ex lo! liang chen and sherryl gave me some advice on the modules to take la. muz make decision by feb~ still long haha.

2008 is coming to an end! yipee... i really hate 2008 and the only time worth remembering is the week in HK. Honestly want this year to be quickly done and over with, i'm disgusted. Next year will be better I hope...

18th Dec

Thankfully nothing huge went wrong yesterday, cos I was mortified when I saw my reed broke into 3 pieces on Tuesday after rehearsal. We ended the rehearsal and I put the reed into the box. Then i closed the box while the reed was 'standing', it should be lying down. So the top part of the reed snapped when I closed the cover of the box - gone! Ying Cong Taurus all looked at the reed and we quickly figure out how to salvage the situation. By then almost everyone else was off the stage or already on the way home le. Wah, scary sia. Luckily got this spare reed but I've never used it before. Not seasoned at all... compared to the broken one which accompanied me through Australia and HK performances. Fortunately it all went well at the actual concert, last minute change fingering for 'Yesterday'... haix I should sing 'Yesterday... where I had to throw my reed away'.

When I sat into the Auditorium stage on Tuesday, realizing that I haven been performing on the stage since Remenescience (i missed out odyssey of love), I became conscious of how ghastly the accoustic of the auditorium is. I could not hear the er hu, dizi seated on the other end of the stage. Having been used to Esplanade and other great halls like Sydney Town Hall and HK Cultural Ctr, I must say this one is really... not for muscial performances. After getting used to the good things, the average ones just seems bad. haha.

During the rehearsal yesterday afternoon, I was zoned out... struggling to concentrate. There was even a part where I mis-counted the note of 'Yesterday' and then many others also lost concentration. Then mike gave a pep talk which I was glad to be reminded of - that the joy and adrenaline rush of a live performance is the essence to a musician's life. That ONE performance on stage is all it matters and no one can steal that limelight and emotions and non-verbal communications. To put up the best show, that's all. So i'm glad the focus was there, especially Kutu, I think one of the better ones that we played.

I really enjoyed playing Ye Shang Hai... the sorta jazzy drunken feel, tao zui. Some of the other songs are pretty... souless, haha. I must say the Kutu part I played using the guan was quite souless yesterday. I have no idea what I was playing, just going through the notes and making sure each note is in tune. It's that kind of feeling that I'm afraid the guan will turn against me and squeak or go out of tune... rather like an nemesis rather than a friend. Hence I was not able to really feel the song. I like the cello part alot alot, very full of emotions. But you can tell when they're nervous, or really playing the music from the sound ... it speaks volume. That's why live concerts always beats the CD. haha. enjoy enjoy!

So happy to see Li Yan back for this concert, one year never touch CO le and she just rehearse for a day and perform the next day... zai sia! I made a joke that she reached Changi Airport, went home and then immediately tell the mom "I'm going CO!" haha. In contrast, the pipa section is, arghz! im annoyed and i can see why gen and angeline not performing this time. Feng Nian Ji without pipa is just... haix. another disappointing thing is the lack of audience yday, the worst in so many years cos the PCF lahz! all buy tickets nv come... this is what they mean by charity by money only... buy ticket for the sake of buying ticket rather than really for eleemosynary. u see next time if nyp will accept any more of their invitation to perform!

and erm... i haven buy the gift exchange for the camp tomorrow, argh! diez. so much i wanna blog about... and congrats to Bob for winning Survivor Gabon! and i haven drank Starbucks this month...hmm~ i shld save $$. haha.

If I'm not taking half day off today I'll be forced to go Mandai Crematorium cos some big shot in camp passed away, quite young age i'd say. dunno that guy other than his name but i SO do not want to go THAT place... not for another time this year. CO this yr, uncountable no. of car accidents, hearing Li Yan talked about hers... thankfully 2008 is over soon. and very soon, it'll be a year anniversary for david... we did well yday for the concert! 14th Dec

How is it freaking possible that the books are sold out at BORDERS?! It's sold out at Woodland's Popular ... ok i can understand. but BORDERS?! There's only new moon left, and thankfully cos I can start reading New Moon. Saw a lady who asked when they'll restock, they also dunno. arghz! Hopefully they'll restock by the time I finish New Moon which will be very very soon. I go to Borders every week cos I'll just pop by after Jap class which is at Shaw house... cross the road over to Borders, so I'm seriously considering about getting a membership card with Borders. erm... but i dun usually buy books?! ahhh, irony. Jia Wen says Eclipse is also sold out at Kino~ So if anyone knows where I can get Eclipse and Breaking dawn pls let me know... at a reasonable price too. Borders got 20% discount leh, haha cheap!

and yes rabbit I'm indeed reading twilight... what's wrong? i know it's more of a girl romance book and i can't help but be jealous of Edward Cullen - a bit too perfect guy. But I watched Charmed too~! and very very young that time my brother and I and my neighbours play poly pocket! bt tts v. v. young.

But geeky as i appear to be, I dun really read a lot of books de loh... until recently where i visit the library more often and now Borders. The very few fiction books I read are Harry Potter, twilight, left behind and erm... da vinci code~ that's all i remember. I always wanted to try John Grisham book and those literature like Jane Austen, Virginia Woolf, Charles Dicken, George Orwell etc etc. im addicted to reading le... haha!~

13th Dec

Okay i'm so giving up on all those HTML editors, I need my MS expression webs! It's freaking killing me that this com is so laggy and I can't do any proper blogging in this com. Haix. Anyway, I went to watch Bolt today and the disney animation is kinda disappointing and it kept dissing Finding Nemo for some reason. But I must say the dog is really cute and the hamster is quite funny, but the cinema never really burst out into huge laughters or what. I really had high expectations for this movie but arh well... guess I should have watched Twilight instead. I think i'll have to start boycotting disney animations and stick with pixar where we have Wall.E!

Oh and if u've been to GV cinema recently and seen the Visa commercial, I think its really really good. That guy just dancing and it's really interesting, plain simple. luv it. Then I realize that this guy had been doing it since 2006 and the video had been circulating on the youtube... which isn't really Visa's idea but them using it, smart too. props for visa... the indian birds ones was very good, this one is impactful too.

This was what I received few days ago:

U have been selected to enjoy 30 days FREE trial for Colour-Me-Tones. SingTels Friends will replace your standard connecting tone on 10 Dec. To opt out of trial, SMS NO to 741490 by 09 Dec. $4.28/mth applies after the free 30 days trail

Okay so this is another HOTA-like, Medishield-like opt-out bloodsucking system that if I do not reply, I'll be charged $4.28 per month and if i reply, i'll waste one sms. So technically they can just keep sending 500 per month and i'll waste all my sms and they can charge me more for SMSes sent. That's a bit exaggerating but still... the point is WHY IS IT AN OPT OUT SYSTEM?! If I had not read the sms carefully, I would only know about this when the bill comes next month, which is totally barbaric and draconian. It's already bad enough that they're flooding my inbox with advertisements, now they force me to SMS in order to stop the subscription. In contract law terms, an advertisement is merely an invitation to treat and it cannot be a contract because there is no consideration on my part, especially if I happen to NOT read the message for any reason whatsoever. Or is this part of the postal rule where if a message is sent, it is assumed to be read and consent is automatically given... so dotz. arghz! If i ever receive such unsolicited messages again, i'll make complaining to Singtel one of my hobby!

Alright back to the main topics. Went to Bugis with Li Xin and Jac on friday where we ate V8 cafe and I must say it's pretty good and affordable, cheaper than most western restaurants... no wonder the queue is always so long and it's been there since I know Bugis Junction. It's really ulu but when it's peak time, it's really looooong queue. Mine was beef lagsana and it was waay better than cartel's. Seriously, why is it so difficult to find good beef lagsana in singapore... i miss the one in sydney!

And another story about my sensei... other than collecting piggy banks... she stores everything in her refrigerator! Then she went to emphasize that it includes RICE, soy sauce, sugar, salt, honey etc. Things you usually put in kitchen, she put in fridge!!! unbelievable rite. the reason is cos she scared of ants. lolx. and it rained halfway in class and i gave a huge reaction - Ame! (rain!) and the sensei ask why the reaction. Then I say I wanted to go aisu-karimu matsuri (ice cream festival) referring to the Ben & Jerry chunkfest. In the end I didn't go lo, watch Survivor at home instead.

i went to borders to buy Stephanie Meyer's TWILIGHT which is about the forbidden love between Bella and the vampire Edward Cullen, which is dangerous because Edward always tries very hard NOT to kill her and suck her blood. Instead, she tries to protect her all the time. Also, Edward has the ability to read people's mind but as Bella is a mental mute, he can't read hers which makes her more interesting to him. Then of course you have the vampire family, their ancient rivalry and treaty of peace with the werewolves etc. which is a whole new fantasy realm. I wonder why there's no Minister of Magic or Harry Potter appearing out of nowhere to battle Edward Cullen, heehee. Kinda transformed into a 'fangirl' liaoz but i'm waiting for the next book which narrates the story from Edward's point of view. Meanwhile, I'll still have Twilight, new moon, eclipse and breaking dawn to read. 4 books, i'm SO gonna collect them all, haha. I bought it with 30% discount anyway so the 19.80 soft cover book cost only 13.40. Ha! the 30% discount can download online if u subscribe to their newsletter... the hard cover ones are like $150 in total... madness! If u like harry potter, u will like this series~ haha.

6th Dec

Bear with me a while as I try to fix my computer, arghz. My zen is going to run out of shows to watch soon if i dun fix my computer in time. Only 12 eps of Zhu guang bao qi and I've already watched the first ep! Oh have I blogged about the terrible dim sum I had at Bao Luo Wan Xiang... omg pls dun go n eat, puke arh! Li Xin had a bite of the shark fin dumpling and immediately face turn purple and spit it out. it's really THAT bad! the skin of the xiao long bao is like rubber, over thick and over cooked that makes it dry and sticky. no 'zhap' inside de like what we had in HK. I'm not expecting it to be fabulous but it's the worst tasting dim sum i have in sg.

I've bought my Mayday album, muahah! Which means i'm only one month away from the concert, first outdoor concert! woo! And Jac jus ripped from my CD even though I insisted that she muz play it first on her mac... arghz! It's a matter of principle u know, the CD is meant to be listened, not ripped. bleahz. okay because i have duty on sunday I have to missed out a lot of things but im so going to the ben n jerry chunkfest tomorrow! and the most shocking thing that happened this week is... joyce's hair! her hair extension is ... like what chin teck said 'kwa tio gui' translated: see ghost arh! haha it's long now and she kept twirling it, haha. i muz take photo wif her tmr. oh and the photos of my cosplay is up on facebook! muahaha i look totally different, kinda like Kwang Tian You on date wif vampire. lolx. will put on blog once i have my MS Expressions installed.
