HEART OF DIXIE AKITA RESCUE FOSTER LITTER 2006

Heart of Dixie Akita Rescue (HODAR) is a breed specific rescue committed to helping Akitas in need in NC, SC, TN, part of KY, and networking throughout the southeast. Our main site is located at hodakitas.org if you would like more information regarding our organization.

HODAR was contacted in mid-August about Nykeita, a pregnant female Akita,

abandoned in a neighborhood in Marietta, Georgia. She was taken into foster care on Wednesday , August 16, 2006. Unfortunately she was heartworm positive and very close to whelping so spaying was not an option. She went into labor on August 21, 2006 and finished up the morning of August 22, 2006. A total of nine puppies were born but due to congenital problems only seven were able to survive. Please click here for more details on the whelping story!

Nykeita appears to be full Akita. As far as anyone can determine the sire to the litter is a "large, fuzzy brown dog" who ran the neighborhood with Nykeita. Thus, a grand total of seven Akita (mix?) puppies

-- three females (Jade, Tara, & Kiara all medium brown sables with black masks):

and four males (Bongo - medium sable with white markings, BlackJack - solid dark sable, Monty - solid medium sable, and Osiris - very dark sable with white markings. All with black mask):

-- are alive and thriving. They are all available for adoption and will be ready to go to their new homes the middle of October. All the puppies will be spayed/neutered, started on vaccinations and heartworm prevention, and dewormed prior to placement.
