Pupdate: September 19, 2006

Well it was a day of first for the puppies. The puppies went to work with me today for their first bathing, nail trimming, (second) deworming and fecals. Unfortunately poopies have been getting discolored and squishy for the last few day so I was concerned and sure enough I found a lot of coccidia (single celled intestinal parasites). Not sure where they picked up these icky parasites from but they are all on medication now and will hopefully get better poopies soon!.

Weights ranged between 5 lbs for little Jade and 6.5 lbs for the stocky Osiris. They all got bathed today and their sad story can be seen on the Bath Page. Stinky, dirty pups went into the tub and drowned rats came out! But soon the drowned rats turned into clean, nice-smelling, soft puppies. Once they were dry or mostly dry, I took individual pictures and those are up on the individual pages. They were great for their nail trims and took their medication (dewormer and albon) okay.

  • Bongo -- 5.5 lbs
  • Jade -- 5.0 lbs
  • BlackJack -- 5.3 lbs
  • Tara -- 6.3 lbs
  • Monty -- 6.0 lbs
  • Kiara -- 5.5 lbs
  • Osiris -- 6.5 lbs

I won't say they enjoyed their day but they were very good for it! And Nykeita was a champ today while we messed with the pups and travelling in the car. Speaking of travelling all the pups did great. A certain pup who shall remain nameless but whose name starts with "O-S" rode almost all the way home (for about 40 minutes) resting in my arm with his little head on my shoulder. My arm almost went to sleep. He won't be spoiled not in the least !

The third and hopefully final stage of containment is up and functional finally. Nykeita is enjoying being outdoors and not on a cable. The puppies will stay out there with her during the day and come in at night. She has a raised area (16 inches off the ground) to get up on away from the pups that has her large water container (note the Halloween decorations) and food bowl. The underneath is cinder blocks with holes that will also serve as tunnels for the puppies to run through!

The top of the pen is covered with a canopy and the only side that is not protected by fence or vegetation has a tarp over it to keep any falling percipitation from blowing in. We'll see if it is escape proof or not once Nykeita stays in there for a while. She will get out to romp & play when I first get home and put the other dogs away (well Inori anyway!).

Pictures of Phase III of containment. Pictures of the pups tonight after being all tuckered out -- resting outside in the Xpen while I cleaned their indoor area. And finally pictures once indoors -- that is Osiris off in the back by himself. The front row from left to right is BlackJack, Kiara, and Monty without a head. The back row from left to right is Tara, Bongo, and Jade. The other group pictures are under Week 5, Day 31.

Don't forget to check out the Bath Page and support PAWT (Puppies Against Water Torture). And check out the individual pages for the latest individual pictures.
